Glasgow Atlantean LA 697 making her debut at the 2021 Glasgow Vintage Vehicle Trust Open Weekend. Currently the only roadworthy dual door Glasgow Atlantean, she has just had a complete back to the bare frame external restoration back to original spec.
LA 697 was ordered by Glasgow Corporation Transport but delivered to the newly formed Greater Glasgow Passenger Transport Executive in June 1973. delivered in Glasgow Corporation colours, she immediately was put into the paint shop to undergo livery trials, eventually emerging after an unseen experimental livery in the new standard GGPTE livery to which she has just been restored.
After having a short passenger carrying life of 7 years, at which point buses would usually undergo their 7 year overhaul, LA 697 was withdrawn and converted to a Driver Trainer, having its front door removed, an instructor seat and foot brake installed on the platform, destination display plated over and top deck sealed off, being repainted into all over white for its new role.
It was used in this capacity until withdrawal in 1997, having ran for Greater Glasgow PTE, Strathclyde PTE, Strathclyde's Buses and First Greater Glasgow. All in all, she put in just shy of 25 years service.
Seen here with owner and custodian Kevin Carroll at the wheel, travelling between Glasgow Riverside Museum and the Glasgow Vintage Vehicle Trust.
