You're delusional if you think that lol In basketball Angola were nobody, a completely meaningless team who would lose to any South American or European nation. In hockey the US was already a well estabilished team. Only Canada, Czechoslovakia and USSR were better at the time. Before the game with Soviets USA defeated Czechoslovakia (who later smashed Canada 6-1) 7-3. 17 out of 20 players from the US roster played in the NHL with several of them winning Stanley Cups. The biggest upset in hockey history is Poland beating USSR at 1976 World Championship.
@M Detlef ABC didn't have the rights to go live during the daytime back in 1980, so that game was tape-delayed for prime time. NBC has ponied up the billions to show everything live whether it's on the broadcast network or on its cable channels (NBCSN, USA, CNBC, Bravo, MSNBC, Olympic Channel).
@M Detlef -- So what? It was 1980 (there was no internet back then)... so everyone in the U.S. who watched it had no idea who had won UNTIL we watched it. It was like watching a football game on tape delay... when nobody knows the outcome, it might as well be live... and that's how we experienced it.
@@opticalspider7003 I was fortunate enough to be on a HS team when we won a State Championship. We couldn't have done it without our coach. That's all I'm saying.
@@laughtoohard9655 ohhhh for some reason I thought you were trying to imply he rigged the game. Very true statement, my high school track coach would kick our asses but there was a reason we’d win the division every year
All due respect to every other moment in US Olympic history, there is only one. "The US team is depending a little too much now on Jim Craig, he's making too many good saves. Eruizone SCORES!!!!! MIKE ERUZIONE!!!!!!!" 10 solid minutes of a sold out crowd LOSING THEIR MINDS.
“Miracles” -have watched it about twenty times until I decided to buy the movie. Also it is a great idea to get HBO version which has from the Russian point of view. It is quite amusing.
america the greatest Country in the world???. yall don't even have universal health care and instead spend money on military. America is truly a country that doesn't want peace and is controlled by a minority people.
The Miracle on Ice is probably the greatest upset but I still believe what Kerri Strug did by landing clean on one leg after injuring herself to be one of the most incredible things I've ever seen in sports!
the dream team was the type of things that made me proud to be an american growing up. hopefully someday we can return to the way things were in the mid eighties to the late nineties.
I don't know how you only have 581k followers. Your videos are some of the best on RU-vid, if not some of the best sports videos I've seen! Keep it up!
......... Its not just me but the swim race is the most stunning in how you can be behind someone and u no how hard it is too pass foward with strength in the pressure he was in.. goosebumps.
I seen just about every one of these moments. The miracle on ice though I never felt or seen a game like that one. That had to be one of the greatest thing I ever witnessed. It was truly awesome.
Whenever the dream team stepped on the court and even when they entered it felt like whoever was in the arena should be grateful they were able to breathe the same oxygen
The miracle on Ice is still the #1 moment in US sports history in my book . I feel fortunate to have been able to watch it when it happened. And at the time I didn't even know they had to play another game to win the gold because of all the celebrating.
Lots of these have shown up in other videos or solo videos, but because it is Olympic time people have been asking me to put some videos out for the olympics. I'll cover this present olympics in a bit when it winds down, for now I'll probably do another volume of historic moments in US olympic history.
Nothing, and I mean NOTHING, will EVER compare to the Miracle on Ice. I don't care who you are, I don't care if you hate hockey. The Dream Team was the most dominant display of American sports prowess, Kerri Strug was perhaps the most awe-inspiring display of American sports, but the Miracle on Ice was the MOST UNITING moment in the history of American sports. It brought everyone together because it gave people hope that we can do anything. I'm roughly the same age as a few of those guys were back in 1980 and I can't fathom how they could've possibly gone out there and beat the Soviet Union, a PROFESSIONAL HOCKEY TEAM! Absolutely the greatest moment in our nation's proud sports history!
well it was the greatest team of basketball players ever assembled and most like will always be the greatest team of basketball players ever assembled, so it doesn't seem too crazy lol :)
@@nicko2864 they actually did at first during their first practice they scrimmaged against a few college kids and lost because no one wanted to be the person score and be that guy it wasn't until after they lost they started working together there's an interview with the coach and a few of the players talking about it
Plus who did the other countries have to pick from with all of the good players from the US? They would be lucky just to have an NBA player let alone a team of All Stars. Its miraculous that Puerto Rico beat them.
That America vs French relay with the US coming back was a massive moment for me in sports. I remember being at a bar and everyone going crazy when he started to catch him. So much fun.
I was there in Lake Placid for the miracle on Ice. I was ALSO there for their FIRST hockey game of the tournament, against Canada I think it was, where they tied the game with something like 24 seconds left (pardon me, my memory is fuzzy, and I literally haven't thought about this in years.) But that, I believe, enabled this. There really has been no comparable moment. (Maybe Secretariat at the Belmont.) I just straight off my feet onto my friend's shoulders, my adrenaline was so pumped.
Great video! You should also do a Winter Olympics edition of this video of Team USA focusing more on the Winter Olympic side, there are lots and lots of great names to make videos of which can include the likes of Eric Heiden, Bonnie Blair, Apolo Anton Ohno, Shaun White, Bode Miller, and what not. We have very good athletes on the Winter Olympic side of Team USA too😉 and don’t you live in Portland Oregon? Mt Hood is an official training ground for alpine skiers, and free ski and snowboarders for Team USA 🇺🇸!
Please do Malcolm butler next, on how he came from Popeyes and then onto a community college.. the super bowl game winning int and then the starting corner back for the patriots, btw great video
If your gonna do one on someone who DOESNT get his WHOLE story told enough, I'd go for Mario Lemieux! I don't know if you could fit all of his unbelievable plays on ice in a 10 minute feature (as a matter of fact, I know you can't) but then to tell the story of his Cancer comeback and the Back problems and surgery. It would make for a great vid. Just food for thought. Great job on this by the way. That Phelps 4x100 relay was unreal to watch live. 2nd only to Miracle. Keep up the good work.
I forgot about Vincanity’s insane ups. Crazy he’s still playing in the NBA. HD tv’s weren’t even a thought when Air Canada jumped over the guy for the dunk. Vince Carter for the youngin’s.
You know who I think deserves to be on this? Paul Hamm. I don't think he ever got the credit he deserved. I don't care if there was an officiating error, and I don't care if people don't like the fact that Hamm refused to give back his gold medal, he showed a ton of heart winning the 2004 Men's individual gymnastics all around gold after a fall on I think the vault made it seem impossibly out of reach. He then crushed it on several different events while the leaders all stumbled before nailing a perfect high bar routine for this crazy comeback win. It was so dramatic at the time, I thought it would live forever. Today nobody references it.
