The year was 1976 in Innsbruck, Austria and we stayed at Seefeld where they held The Cross Country Skiing which we did not attend. We DID go to Igls for The Bobsleigh but the memory will always be The Mens Ski Jump and an elderly couple gave us their tickets as they could not climb the hill for a good vantage point. At 70 years old in London,I am in the first stages of understanding why..😀😀In 2012, as a Londoner,I, naturally, went to The London Summer Games and saw The Tri-Athlon for Free(again) in Hyde Park with a million others and The English Brownlee Brothers came First and Third winning The Gold and Bronze Medals:)

Hello, really enjoying your videos. I went to a couple of events at London 2012 (Badminton and Football) and ticked the Olympics off of my sporting bucket list. Prior to the event there was a lot of negativity in the country due to the cost of hosting. But once underway it produced a real feel-good factor and was probably the last time the people of this country really came together for something. I remember the atmosphere in London was so different and positive for those few weeks compared to normal. I imagine Paris will be the same once it gets going.

In Tennis in a major tournament you play best of 5 sets. In the 5th set if you tie at 6 games a piece you do not play a traditional “tiebreaker” (first to 7 points) you play full games until someone wins by two full games. I believe they played like 50+ games in that set and it ended up being 24 games to 22 games.
@xFurashux
@xFurashux 3 месяца назад
They played for over 11h but in 3 days if I remember correctly. It happened at Wimbledon where there used to be rule that the 5th set has to finish with 2 games advantage, withoout tie-breaks so that's why instead of ending when 1 player got 6 or 7 games, they went for 70-68. Lewandowski and Włodarczyk are both Polish.

I well remember the 11hour tennis match. It was at Wimbledon and at the time there were no tie-breaks in a final set. I went out when it was already well past 2 sets and 6 games apiece, but returning two hours later and they were still at it because both players got so tired every game went to serve. They then stopped for bad light and carried on the next day. The tie-break rules changed after that match.

The tennis one is a funny story. Back then there was no tiebreak or anything like that back then, so you had to win the last set with two games difference. The game started on the 22nd of june just after 6 PM and was postponed after 4 sets because it was getting dark. On the 23rd they started the 5th set. They were very equal to each other (two of the previous four sets were decided by a tiebreak) and you had to win the set with a two game margin. Neither of them managed to get there, so at the end of the day the game was postponed when it was getting dark again with a score of 59-59 in the 5th set. On the 24th they continued again and finally finished after Isner managed to get ahead by two games: 70-68. Other records they broke during that match: - Most aces in one match (113 by Isner, 103 by Mahut, old record was 78) - Longest set (8 hours and 11 minutes). The fifth set also lasted longer than the longest ATP match ever played - Most games in one match (183 games, old record was 112) - Most games in one set (138, the longest match (not set, match!) up to that point lasted a total of 110 games) - Most consecutive service games held (168 games in a row) - Longest sports report (the whole match was broadcasted by the BBC. For one of the reporters, this was his very first Wimbledon match) The next round match of Isner was delayed to give him time to rest, but that didn't help much. He lost in the next round to Thiemo de Bakker in only 74 minutes (0-6, 3-6, 2-6) Duplantis has an American father and Swedish mother, and was born in the USA. He represents Sweden.

I watched that longest tennis match live, it was spread out over a few days days and it was because the rule used to be there’s no tie-break in the 5th/ last set and you keep playing until the diffidence is two games but since they did not get to this until 70 to 68 games in 😮 it was long but fun to have watched it. Tennnis I know. Certain tournaments do not allow final set tie breakers. So to win a tennis set you need to win no less then 6 games and be up 2 games to win the set. Most tournaments use best of 3 to win. The 4 Grandlams Austraian Open (rebound ace rubber courts), The French Open (France - Clay), Wimbledon (UK Grass and The US Open (cement) are men play best of 5 sets. If you allow a tie breaker game ( score is 6 all) first to 6 points and up by two wins. However Wimbledon doea not allow final set tie breaks. So its 2 sets all. Final set will play out until one player wins 2 games in a row. iirc correctly the record was 12 games to 10 to determine the winner. That can drag on all night. Pause for darkness and resume the next morning if needed. It is wild to think about.

I think Red Bull recently had a thing where they broke the ski jump record by like a massive margin. That 3 second red card was pretty bogus. Orange is a good color for you, and we lost in high school soccer 19-2 freshman year and I hated it. Long Jump - Mike Powell 8.95m, Galina Chistyakova 7.52 m. Difference = 4ft 8.25inches. Pole Vault - Armand Duplantis 6.24 m, Yelena Isinbayeva 5.06 m. Difference = 3ft10.5inches. Just to emphasize, this takes nothing away from any of these athletes, they are all world class in their own fields and every one of these performances was excellence at its best.

The scarier part about Usain Bolt is that it seems as if he could be faster, but he's running politely so as to not insult the others who look like struggling behind him. Edit: maybe they meant highest differential win? Or score difference? The funny thing is that Australia is really low internationally, so for them to beat Samoa that badly... Edit: try HEMA instead of fencing Edit: Paris is great to visit. Get ready to walk a lot, use the metro, ideally rent a flat in the burbs with acces to metro or stay at your friend's (hotels are expensive); do not buy snacks from tourist traps (ex. crepes from near Notre Dame) - better just walk 5 min south towards La Sorbonne and visit a grocery store or a neighbourhood creperie there (student quarter/residential area = somewhat cheaper to really cheaper); expect long lines and crowding at major attractions (La Tour Eiffel, Le Louvre) - in Louvre, the most famous paintings are crowded while the truly interesting areas (Minoan, Persian, even Egyptian and Greek) are practically empty; museums are not too expensive to visit; don't mind the rudeness of the locals (not always, but Paris is known for it as opposed to rest of France/smaller tows); avoid high season (summer/winter) and special events (elections/major sports etc.) - Parisians who can afford it leave the city at those times. Note - France has issued a security warning for this summer. P.S. A stroll down Rue Rivoli or through the Jardin de Tuileries is a nice short walk right by Le Louvre. Also, look up this and try to find the places in that film (on foot😊) - C'etait un rendez-vous (ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-EL6fbi0ysQ0.htmlsi=Yvb4DNvpGotBey-u)

If you are going to watch one athlete at the Olympics, it should probably be Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone. She has lowered the women's 400m hurdles world record by over 1.5 seconds. She is also in the top 10 fastest ever for the flat 400m, which she was running last year to switch things up, but unfortunately got injured before being able to lower her best time further. She recently ran a 200m and beat all of the specilist 200m runners, including the third fastest ever in that event. Some of the records in that video are a little out of date. Mondo Duplantis (Sweden) has beaten that world record several times since and he dominates the pole vault to a ridiculous degree. While he is vaulting over 6.2m, everyone else struggles to vault over 6m. The women's triple jump is completely dominated by Yulimar Rojas, who is unfortunately out this season due to an achilles operation.

I think the throwing event you missed was the shot-put. The football was, I think, ;biggest goal difference'. For the 5 goials, I think he would have been nervous and worried after 2 goals, hoping he'd get the hat-trick. I used to do weightlifting when I was a teen. Now the muscle I had is all fat (I wasn't big, still like a beanpole really, just toned). I am 57 with arthritis starting to develop on the knees and wrists. Agree with you on different body types in different events.

I could see where it would be rough on the knees & wrists as well. That little hip maneuver had me nervous

@@NoProtocol dislocation of knees and elbows is common too. You see it quite often in the Olympics. Fortunately not me though

The ski jump record was just broken (by a lot), but out of competition, in a red bull sponsered event. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ngddfxog-yw.html

The one record that doesn't impress me is the long jump. I feel like I can jump further. I feel like I *have* jumped further. I should have taken it up.

Colombia and Venezuela have been dominant in women's triple jump for the past ten years. Some, in my opinion, better (and funkier) Nigerian music: William Onyeabor - Better Change Your Mind: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-u7kaOntQbsw.html Fela Kuti - Zombie: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Qj5x6pbJMyU.html (Not to be confused with The Cranberries' excellent song: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-6Ejga4kJUts.html) Some very different West African music - by pygmy musicians from Camerun. Take longjump. Bob Beamons record is way more impressive. As a pole vaulter Bubka is more impressive. He never tried his best but just improved the world record by centimeters to earn prize money. And in the case of javelin Jan Železný stands out. It is weird someone made this video without mentioning Jan Železný
