After Issos battle (333 AD) Alexander sent a letter to Dario of Persia starting like this: «Οι υμέτεροι πρόγονοι ελθόντες εις Μακεδονίαν και εις την άλλην Ελλάδα κακώς εποίησαν ημάς. Εγώ δε των Ελλήνων ηγεμών κατασταθείς και τιμωρήσασθαι βουλόμενος Πέρσας διέβην ες Ασίαν, υπαρξάντων υμών». which means: "Your ancestors came to Macedonia and rest of Greece and they harmed us. Ι, appointed by the greek leaders and wanting to punish Persians, passed through Asia with your beings."
