Greece is heaven. The immense diversity of landscapes is just stupendous. Ofcourse this video only highlights a tiny fraction of Greece's immense diversity of beauties, but the fact alone that Greece lies on 4 tectonic earthplates coming together in Greece (the Asian plate, The African plate, The European plate anda 4th plate crushed inbetween), results in a very complex geography and topography with 80% mountains. Every mountain in Greece is different. And so many different landscapes, seascapes mountainscapes and so forth. I have been 60 times to Greece to know these beauties and still exploring many new areas I never seen before on the mainland, as well as I have only seen 15 islands of 6000.
the worst mistake I made on my long term travels (with a bicycle) was: too much hurry, too much speed. you´re 100% right when you take youre time! and thanks for choosing "the other routes" - it´s great to follow you on these tracks, thank you for the hard work filming & editing!
As a foreigner living in Greece for the past 10 years, I admire greatly what you've done here :) I am almost brought to tears. You've clearly fallen in love with the country and the people in the same way I have :) I look forward to your future adventures, wherever they may take you!
Yes, it is very important to slow down, otherwise you will burn out. We travelled for 3.5 years. Travel for 6 weeks and then 3 weeks off. Just stand somewhere, just make sure you have food, fuel and water. Cheers Rolanda ❤️
what a beautiful country - stunning beaches and as you showed us, beautiful and diverse landscape. Thank you for getting us there (even through video :))
Loved every minute of your story. May you have a happy and prosperous journey in life! Love from Greece! p.s. For tips and hints in Greece, I offer pro bono services for your next trip! Courtesy of the Greek Filoxenia!
I am sorry to say that, but you guys have a long learning curve to go. We can see that you bought the car, not built it. This Defender can do much more. Try to move the boulders with the winch for example. Don't worry about scratches. Use Low Range and just go. Next time deflate tires with your car keys. One minute, one bar more or less :D
It’s ok to say that 😊 we know we aren’t experts. We are careful because this defender is our home on wheels and has to go to Mongolia and back with us 🙏🏻
@@lewieandtherover quickly order somehow the tire repair kit. There are spare valves and spanner for it. Same as puncture plugs and tools for that. Its basic kit. ARB make good ones.
Great visuals and loved the video. No hate, but that Defender probably could have driven over some of the rocks you were moving. Don't be scared to use it's full potential! Lower tire pressure will do wonders. Go look at US or Aus 4x4 channels to see what a vehicle like a Defender with front and rear solid axles can do.
Thanks for the comment 🥰 we definitely don’t know the full potential. But we also have to keep an eye out because it’s our home and we still have to bring it half the world haha
I see some (mostly US) commenters are forgetting most of the world don't have recovery service within 20 minutes :- ) It's better be safe than sorry as few minutes of rock-crawling glory can side-track week(s) of adventure. You get stuck in Rubicon, there are 20 jeeps behind you. Not so much in Europe/Asia.
Greece is wonderful, Many different sceneries from mountains, seasides and rivers. I could say that is the Heaven for trips like that with free access. (Many countries don't allow free access to mountain roads) You came in a season than has almost no tourism and this males the trip even better. I have to say that many things that appeared in the video, are against the law, and this must be known. I.e. lighting a fire in the summer by the Forrest, driving by the sandy seaside you could brake turtle's eggs, and sleeping by the seaside. You can understand what mess would be, if 5, 10 or even more cars would come and do the same things like you and trying to sleep by the sea. Have always safe journeys!
Wow!! Planazo de la rana. Me volví mudo!! 😂 madre mia, como se os ocurre montar la mesa para comer en ese precipicio...!! 😮 vistas y planos brutales. No me rsperaba que Albert situase el dron de esa manera para hacer las tomas aéreas, alucinante. Os sigo viendo... 😅
Niala pass and Kakarditsa pass can give you a hard time, especially late May like when you visited the place. Your last camping site is in Sithonia peninsula, Chalkidiki. I used to drive there with my father to go fishing.
That was very risky rock crawling these rogued steep mountains by your own, without a supporting vehicle. Best way doing it is following a 4×4 group , who know the open and best routes possible. Mountainous Greece is majestic but very wild and rogued too. Another advice, is considering changing vehicle in the future if that is possible of course. More modern and better equipped like Rubicon Wrangler or Ranger Raptor second gen, using both rear and front lockers, better differencial, rear, front sway bars, vince, more torque and better gear boxes for 4L ratio. That old Defender has limited capabilities on rock crawling and climbing. That model was better used for sand and mud terrains. Thank you for the effort. I wish you will try again perhaps on some Peloponnese or Macedonian mountains.
I could do this, if I had the money (To buy all this equipment, car etc.). But as a Greek, I have no savings and I think I will have to work 9 to 5 all my life. Any tip for me guys? Amazing video!
A different title for you video could be " Sisyphus cosplaying" 😂. Very nice video. There are still so many beautiful places to visit in Greece. You can also try Pelion mountain.
So, you have a 2t 4x4, a winch, sand ladder - and still can not figure out how to move a 'large' rock blocking your road... You better never leave the explored trail for the unexplored ;)
@@reynhardttheron6901 They simple just burning fuel (pretending living an explorer's life), this couple exactly the type of 'outdoor people' we need to rescue regularly from the hills - wasting our time and resources. My critic was right on the spot :D money can not buy 'outdoor spirit'. Take care @reynhardttheron6901! a mountain rescue team member for 35 years now... (now you know, what I do)
@9:41 @14:39 turning edgy/sharp rocks without gloves, barefoot in a sandal = easy way to cut yourself... @15:59 @18:13 'a winch is a nice, decorative part of a 4x4'... Burning fuel =/ 'free spirited outdoor life', and quite far 'caring for the Earth'...
Dope Content from you guys, girl got a cinematic voice which makes the views & the thoughts you share more awesome! Very nice content & well worked on every aspect! Well done!
Guys, what a wonderful journey what a lovely country.... my country. I have made exactly the same road trip at 2023 with my ❤️ and it is still in my mind. If I could I would be for the rest of my life on this roads getting knowing people we meet villages we visited, the spots we loved to make photos...... Lisa and I will always be on the Road just as you do.....
We are an adventurous lot us dutchies. I have just come back from a trip to the outback in Australia. Enjoy guys. This trip as overlanding trips goes will change your life. Mongolia is so beautiful. One of the most beautiful countries we have been to so far..86 and counting. Groetjes Rolanda ❤
Thank you 🙏🏻 we used an off-road book from pistenkuh. We use books for every country because we are not really good at finding and preparing off road routes 😂
Was able to rent Suzuki Samaria and tour the island of Corfu. Was fun exploring all the nooks and crannies of the shoreline and mountains. Very nice place to be.
Officially, wild camping - i.e. free parking and spending the night in a car, camper or motor home - is not allowed in Greece. In the high season, this is consistently punished. This applies especially to tourist areas, nature reserves and beaches
Great adventure. I love your team work. We live in our van since October 2022 and our first trip was over the Balkans to Turkey. Turkey was disappointing due to even more garbage all over the places and the Kangal streetdogs were even more aggressive toward our dog than in Greece. So in Fethyie we decided to go back. Peloponnes was great, though.
I really liked your video. The filming and storytelling were both done with a high level of professionalism. I wish only you could provide more information on those beautiful high mountain roads. Where are they and from where you started for those willing to follow your footsteps...or roadmarks :) :)
We used the book from @the_travely 😎 They wrote an roadtrip book with all the nice spots. For the offroad tracks we used a book from pistenkuh. We spent around three weeks in total! Have fun!
