A very good and detailed story about the tragedy of Harmonia. And a delightful tale that shows how similar the Olympians are in terms of spite and hypocrisy. Hera is always enraged at Zeus for his philandering, yet will cover for her favored son, Ares, then discarded and maimed Hephaestus for being ugly. Then Hephaestus viciously takes his rage and humiliation on beautiful and innocent Harmonia, on her wedding day, no less! Not only does he cause unnecessary suffering to her, but to many other legends and heroes, all for the sake of his spite. He truly is Hera's son in this regard. Fantastic work!
I have to say, it does crack me up that the Greek gods are basically just nobles with literally godlike superpowers. It's great. The tails are also beautiful, tongue in cheek aside. I was so fascinated with how Hephaestus believed he could not be loved because his wife was cheating on him and he was mocked by everyone. And so he turned to tearing down that which spurned him. To make them share his pain. It's very interesting. I just really liked your take on it, Baldermort.
Thank you for pointing this out - it is a mess ! And has been driving my fully mad in doing so - as Coreylugauer2369 is right - Dionysus comes to Olympus because of his mother getting burnt up, due in some part to the necklace made by Hephaestus. But Hephaestus is only convinced to come back to Olympus by Dionysus sharing a drink with him. So you can see the contradiction in the original tales, as Greek mythology was mostly an oral tradition, and people didn't speak to one another to get their stories straight, it is full of these types of maddening contradictions! So it is tricky to get a timeline narrative without them, and sometimes I make mistakes. But I'd rather tell the tale as it's told than fix every inconstancy. (even though we do try our best to fix as many as we can haha) I still hope you enjoyed the tale! (And Dionysus and Ariadne are also on the list of stories to be told!) - Lightbringer
Don’t bothered with timeline in Greek myths. As the movie Jason And the Argonauts showed and explained in the novelization of Clash of the Titans, time can be as fast or slow as the gods wills it and it appears for one god a full 20 years goes by in mere moments but for another god he or she may feel the passage of the full two decades and both wouldn’t miss anything. The gods’ existence seems to transcend the boundaries of time and our dimension. Their sense of time is not so linear.
Yay! Thank you so much! We just love telling stories about myths, they can be so fun!!! To be someone's favourite is a true gift, thank you for sharing this with us! It is an honour! - Lightbringer
He was happy because she allowed it. She was the goddess of love and she orders the Erotes. He was lucky she didn't resent him for what he has done to her and her daughter. As for Aphrodite she was happy with Ares, not to mention her mortal son Aeneas became immortal and joined her to mount Olympus.
Thank you so much Oliviaobiaja !!! It is so wonderful to see your name in the comments, thank you for your continued support! It means the absolute world to us! - Lightbringer
Your take on Haphestus... How i want to grab the man by his beard and slam him face first into a table before shouting at him that he treated Hera as a prize, a Thing... a bauble to be given or taken. That is not Love. Above all if you love a thing that cannot love you or you ccannot be with. Let it go. And so, he shouldh ave let HER go. Ask Zeus for an annullment. He had gotten what revenge he could of the situation and so perhaps in time find another who loves the forging and working. The shaping and crafting. Some people make better exes than partners. Friends rather than lovers.
Absolutely awesome. No matter the god or mortal, your voices perfectly embody them. When you portray Aphrodite, I easily picture as the most beautiful object in creation. When Hera, the sorrow and pettiness. Same when you portray Zeus, Hades or Hephaestus. So very glad this channel exists.
@@livingmythology1405 it why I commented on it while Mrs. Living Mythology was Aphrodite as opposed to Hera. I don’t want to be on the other side of an axle to Ixion.
Oh snap. I recognized the name Oedipus from my high school days' studies. Suffice to say, as it was an all-boy Catholic school, the re-creation we did of their theater was 'accurate' to say the least. Myself in the masque and garb of his daughter Antigone. That'll be the day, should you cover that lol.
He may have acted cruelly here, but do not judge him too harshly. Gods are always acting on their emotions, consumed by them at times it seems. - Lightbringer
Hephaestus was raised by the sea goddess and future mother of Achilles, Thetis. It's likely he went to the palace of her parents the elder sea god and goddess, Nereus and Doris.
I look forward to your videos, great content! I was wondering if you had a video for Tartarus in the works? I’d love to see a video from his perspective
