@MikiaBurkett They have spiracles I believe, those which insects by movement force air into the holes to “breathe”. Which would also make sense why they become so erratic when the poison renders them unable to intake oxygen despite their movements.

A strange noise I once heard, turned out to be a cicada "screaming" as it desperately tried to get away from a wasp that was stinging it repeatedly. It was one of the most horrific sights and sounds I've ever experienced 😱
Fun Fact: Cicadas lack any sort of higher intelligence. They don’t really see bigger animals as a threat. So this cicada was probably like: *”Yo why tf is this tree holding me…”*
Are there insects with higher intelligence? I view most as like this with pea brains I imagine it's mostly instinct and nature not thought out actions in what they do.

Cicadas like the soil and many trees in my back yard. I find dozens of their moulted casings saved for my grandson, who adores cicadas. Summer isn’t summer if I haven’t heard the 5 and 7 year varieties singing! But I’m glad I’m nowhere near the town where the 17 year variety, live and pupate! I only get a few dozen in my yard in Southeastern Ontario.🇨🇦🖖🏻🇨🇦
