Billie Joe, Tre & Mike have had the hair since the 80’s. They started in the Gilmore St punk scene in the late 80’s, early 90’s. The 2000’s emo scene was influenced by guys like them. This is their Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction. Green Day is HUGE and Billie Joe & Mike Dirnt met in grade school, so they’ve definitely been together a LONG time😂
Green Day live is the best thing that happened to me in my life, they give everything on stage, they go out of their way for the audience, they are always attentive and make the audience participate in the recital. First time I went to see them, they played 3 hours straight without stopping, it was the best of the best.

This was my early teen years. First time I heard greenday I switched from listening to country which was my dads fav to punk rock, alternative and metal. Dookie was my first CD I ever purchased with my own money.
You probably figured it out, but he was singing, "Sometimes I give myself the creeps." Social Distortion had a song called "The Creeps". I don't know if it was a reference to that. Maybe there was no connection. You should check out some Social D though. Social Distortion is an old school Southern California punk band from the late 70s, that were still popular at least through the 90s. They had a really good live album from the late 90s called "Live at The Roxy" (The Roxy is a famous club on the Sunset Strip in West Hollywood, that's been a very popular music venue for decades). I don't know of any video that was recorded alongside that album, but it's a good one to check out. "Story Of My Life" is one of my favorite songs of theirs.
Oh! This is kind of just random info, but if you're interested, and since I mentioned The Roxy, the guy that used to run The Roxy, also owned The Rainbow Bar and Grill, which has been in some of the Guns and Roses videos you've seen, and his family still owns it, and I think his grandson runs them both now. There was a documentary made about it not too long ago called "The Rainbow". It had been an old Italian restaurant that was right next to The Roxy when he bought it, but then it became a kind of legendary place where rock bands in the Hollywood scene would hang out, when they were starting out, he would feed them when they had no money, and it was just a place where bands had a home and a family that would look out for them. GNR would hang out there, Ozzy Osborne, they have a statue of Lemmy from Motorhead there now because that was his spot, everybody really.
Green Day have been in existence for about 35 years now, which makes me feel really old. This song is from their best-selling album "Dookie" which came out in 1993 or thereabouts. Officially, Green Day are classified as "California Neo Punk", along with The Offspring.
Green Day basically introduced me to Punk Rock, Rock and later Metal when I was 12 or 13, just before American Idiot came out. My older siblings all loved them since Dookie but never tried to hear them, i listened to their greatest hits record International Superhits, and I remember so distinctly a lightbulb going off in my brain, like where had this music been all my life, and I remember raving to my friends about Green Day just before American Idiot happened where they still were not massively known in Pop culture. Without them, my music journey into Rock and Metal would for sure been delayed. Was lucky to see them play live 3 or 4 times for the American Idiot tours and 21st Century Breakdown tours
Saw them back in 92 or 93 (must have been the Kerplunk tour, definitely before Dookie came out) in a small club her in Germany in front of maybe 60-70 people. Good old days.

Green day was big, i guess they still is, in this Punk/Rock scene, they are to me, the early 2000´s frontmovers, along with some others, in this Punk setting stage.. some great songs from them surely, they never made it to be my absolute favirite band, but some very good songs for sure..

Green Day was a punk band that was on a small California punk label and had 2 albums released... The band is: Billie Joe Armstrong (vocals & guitar), Mike Dirnt (bass) and Tre Cool (drums) Nirvana broke big in 1991 and Green Day got courted by major record labels to sign them (They treated it like a joke!) But Green Day's 2nd album 'Kerplunk!' was selling more copies just by word of mouth and they realized that they were more in demand than a small label could provide... So, Green Day were finally convinced by producer Rob Cavallo to sign w/ Reprise Records in 1993 and did what they always did - record a new album... (The band said they were paid enough money to record the album and pay rent for a year 😂) Green Day was shocked when MTV put their 1st music video for 'Longview' on air and it got a huge response, despite being a low budget video... The album 'Dookie' went up the charts rapidly in 1994 and then 'Basket case' became another hit single... followed by 'When I come around'... The record sold over 10 million copies in the US and was a huge hit worldwide. However, Green Day were also facing backlash from their own punk rock scene accusing them of 'selling out' and appealing to pop fans... At some point, Green Day had to accept that there were always going to be naysayers... but the people who mattered were the band and their fans.

years ago I was working at Miami airport, and down the plane ramp came down Green Day, all of them! I yelled out "Green Day!" and they all laughed came up and hugged me, they thanked me asked my name, I said "Freddy" and they kept on walking and all yelled out "Freddy!!!". Lol, i'm sure they were wasted but still made my day.
Green Day is like two bands ! Young Green Day is punk-rock ! Old Green Day is more mainstream rock (but with poignant political messages) . The Song : " Time of your life" , was a song about them all growing up, having kids and making the transition from young adults to mature and responsible adults.

@Bisscute A tip: this song, which is an absolute marvel, is clearly a song more suitable to listen to in its studio version (ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-NUTGr5t3MoY.html) than in this live version that you have listened. For two reasons. First of all, because the sound of the recording was not very good. And, secondly, because in this live version it has not been appreciated that the song has one of the best drum performances in the entire history of punk. Listen to the recording of the album, and you will see how great Tré Cool is on drums.

The Album this song is on (Dookie) is from 1994...so yeah. It's got some years on it's back already. Green Day for me falls in the same category as The Offspring.
