30 years here. I cut my teeth on them also. Although I like many heavier bands and different guitars, I still own a modded strat with a jb humbucker because of Billie. And my metalhead friends give me shit for how I can possibly go back and forth from heavy to pop punk. I tell them to go fuck themselves. My dad would always force me to play a certain way on the guitar, making my fingers trip. Then I watched how fun people like Billie Joe and Malcolm Young made it look, so I tried it. And became a better player than my dad. Oh and fun fact, there is a Metallica video where James Hetfield plays American Idiot ( just a bit of it, he claims he doesn't know the rest, but he does) and the crowd goes nuts and sings along. So fellow metalheads, show your friends that video when they bust your balls.🤣
