The fact that the stern Norman Osborn is the one behind the mask, doing this voice, making the facial expression, belting out these lines and laughter still blows my mind. The duality of his two “masks” just makes me love this character and makes him so easy to connect to. I think he was right in saying “we all wear masks”, and seeing Norman let out his inner self in the form of Green Goblin is just so fun
Green Goblin has often been depicted as Marvel’s Joker. But this particular version of his character is probably the closest I’ve seen at resembling Joker’s personality. He’s dangerous and extremely smart, but also has a constant sense of humor, combined with his witty personality and sheer insanity really makes him feel like Mark Hamill’s Joker. It’s a shame we only got 1 Season of this Green Goblin and of this show as a whole.
I honestly thought he was voiced by Mark Hamil at first. I then saw the credits and he’s voiced by one of the biggest actors in the industry. Credits to Steve Blum for giving us an amazing Goblin!
Agreed, most everything about this series was just pure gold. Tombstone was so well written that you'd never expect he wasn't their first choice for the villain.
“We all wear masks, Spider-Man. But which one is real? The one that hides your face or the one that is your face?” Oh crap, Green Goblin is a first year psych major
My favorite part about this Goblin, and to be fair there's a lot to like, is that they really show how smart he is throughout the show. He goes to grest lengths to protect his identity and lays low when he feels Spiderman is getting too close. He covertly takes over the criminal underworld right under Tombstone and Hammerhead's noses, takes over Doctor Connors's research through a third party and tries all manner of ways to get Spidey killed before finally just trying it himself. You really get the sense that Spiderman wasn't his *main* concern snd that he had bigger plans and he probably *could* have legitimately *won* if he wasn't so ridicilously arrogant.
DaFoe's line "Strong enough to have it all, too weak to take it" is pretty close but I won't deny that Blum's performance is insane, I'm particularly fond of his line about the ballroom bomb, about how it will paint the town red - "well, the ballroom anyway"
The one thing I have an issue is when Norman is discovered as the goblin he just goes back to his normal voice the moment his mask is off and never uses his goblin voice. Always through me off
The mask most likely has a voice changer in it, which I hate. He has 2 VAs because its easier to hide his identity that way to audiences. Steve Blum's voice is also way too recognizable no matter how much he pitches it, so him voicing Norman as well would have been a dead giveaway.
You’ll also notice how his personality changes from Goblin to Norman and that’s not like dual personalities or whatever. Norman was just pretending, acting like a loon. Cuz Norman stated that how he got the green made it so he didn’t loose control
@@jareththegoblinking3191i like to think that this is Norman letting loose, he has way to much fun, even when there's no one around. I think this is just Norman's true face
I've forgotten how much of a savage this version of the Green Goblin was. The lines this dude has is simply... sublime! Plus, the way he did that backflip and landed PERFECTLY on his gilder was just the icing on the cake. What a boss!
Steve Blum as Green Goblin in this show was perfect! Seeing as how Insomniac’s Spider-Man 2 teased Green Goblin for the 3rd game I hope he gets casted to voice him again since I’d imagine they’ll still have Mark Rolston voice Norman Osborn but cast someone else to voice the Green Goblin persona
After bingeing all of Transformers Prime twice (coming up on thrice now), I can't unhear Jack Darby and Starscream as Spider Man and Green Goblin respectively.
Steve Blum is by far the greatest and most hilarious version of the Green Goblin. I love Dafoe, but this version just captures insanity. He’s like the Mark Hamil of The Joker.
I feel like the green goblin was the only way norman can come out with all the comedy that was probably was inside him when norman was a cold serious man
I Love the Star Contrast between Gobby, which he doesn't mind Spiderman calling him, and Osborn. One is a cruel Stoic Business man the other a Charismatic, wisecracking Crime Lord.
i love how spider-man actually enjoyed talking back and forth at the goblin. like they're roasting each other and quipping so good and honestly i coould see them just hanging out on a rooftop not even fighting, just sudo-rapping at each other.
...Honestly, that line at 3:20... "Well, the ballroom, anyway..." Still one of the biggest reasons why I suddenly grew FAR more interested in this show over the original 90s Spidey.
The Goblin was so great in this show. Steve "TOM from Toonami, Spike from Cowboy Bebop, and Orchimaru from Naruto" Blum was excellent in the role and I wish he plays Gobby in more shows.
I just love the fact that in original version, Gobby speaks French sometimes. X) I already find him funny (in original version or in French version, we have a really good dub), but the fact that he adds some French in his quotes makes me laugh even more! 💚💚💜💜
I've never seen anything make Osborn and the Goblin so distinct from one another if I didn't know about him before I went into Spectacular Spider-Man the reveal would have totally shell-shocked me
