Hydrogen, along with other locally accessed clean energy, can become the basis for a revived economy in dying rural towns and villages throughout Ireland. This especially holds true for islands, such as the Aran Islands, where the possibilities for electricity export are limited by cable capacity and grid connection options. By converting our surplus electricity to hydrogen, we can fuel the ferries that transport us.

Hydrogen storage and transit is the problem to overcome at very high pressure and negative temperature to keep liquidised, also the traditional infrastructure could not be used due to hydrogen embrittlement in metals. However, green ammonia could be the answer.

As for the Apollo Rocket, the Hydrogen engineer who led the hydrogen fuel systems for NASA is Dr Addison Bain and he is our top Hydrogen scientist.

Offshore wind does not blow always. Offshore wind has a higher capacity than onshore. Having said that west mayo would have as high a capacity as some offshore sites. Typical capacity for onshore would be 30 plus% while offshore 40 plus%.50% capacity has being recorded in Shetland Islands. Rory where is the 100% capacity?

CH4 --> C + 2H2, methane pyrolysis yields cheaper hydrogen with no CO2 emissions. The carbon, C, is buried. This Hydrogen is super green if the methane is from biowaste reuse. Water uses more energy to make green hydrogen. You end up giving away oxygen, no charge.

Just one more fantasy to add to the mix. When someone said that electrifying everything was a fantasy, they said, oh yeah but how about this fantasy, hydrogen.

We CAN easily electrify buses and trucks and we already are doing so.

Keep at it, hydrogen cannot yet be stored cheaply enough to be practical, too bad 😞all the millions of homes that the majority of lower income folks live in can affordably convert to your dream.
