You are very correct in your thinking. There are the purists and the creators. I never knew that your M715 was originally a restomod. What I thought was pretty good was when you put the 230 back in yours, you did the civilian carburetor on it and I’m sure it runs much better with the Holley 2 barrel carb than the original 1 barrel. I have a 1955 M38A1 I bought over 25 years ago and the matching M100 trailer. The Jeep had left the Marines and went to the county for over 30 years where it was basically demiled. After I bought it, I spent a lot of time trying to put it as much back to stock as possible. I drove it for years with the factory drive train in it and 4 wheeled it for years in stock form, pulling the trailer everywhere I went. Even showed it at an off road show with cammo nets like a diarama type set up with cots , web gear, sand bags, everything, had a blast and took 1St place, best of show. But the old F-head just wouldn’t do what I needed. So I left it as military as I could on the outside and went to a stock small block Chevy engine in it. I still run trails with it, and still pull the trailer with it with all my base camp gear in it. I love my old M38A1 and it’s little quirk’s. Enjoy your channel very much and your content is great. Keep up the great work your doing. My favorite thing to do with my Jeep is to take the Jeep and trailer to shop for Christmas trees with the wife every year.

Thanks, yes the M715 originally had a Pontiac 400 v8 in it and when I ran the numbers on the block it was out of a 1974 Trans Am. When I made the switch back to the stock 230, I sold the 400 and made enough to basically pay for all the new NOS pieces I needed to do the swap back. I did not change the carb though, it is the stock 1 barrel Holly. Glad you are able to continue to enjoy your M38a1 they are such fun little vehicles.

I love the motor pool reference. The military vehicles we drove took a beating. I know the motor pool SGT "Shorty" was always upset whe we returned from the range. I took those vehicles for granted and never dreamed that I would be interested in them. Still working on acquiring my first military vehicle. Thanks for your expert knowledge.

Glad you are enjoying the channel. The best thing about having an old military vehicle, is having fun with it, drive it, show it and let everyone enjoy it.

Simple answer: one of each! I have a restomod M715 and a near original M725!

I like the middle ground, original but if its something could have been modified or changed at a unit level mod then i try to keep it looking and operating like that.

Sounds like a good plan

I like original, but do appreciate modified. If it is completely original, I would like it to stay original… Bobbing the bed makes me cringe. Mine is modified, but was missing a bunch of stuff, including the original engine. Mine is staying modified. I agree: you do you
