The best part about this show is how well it handles constructs. GL can do anything he can imagine, but is always nerfed to just making bubbles and lasers whenever he's in something like a Justice League show. This show gives them either versatility or power. Kilowog held the line against an entire fleet of starships.
@@SourRobo8364 Contrast the lantern in the beginning of the Snyder Cut. He swung a hammer, like, once. He could have been as strong as one of the Greek Gods in that scene, at least when it comes to knocking over Parademons.
This series is DC's most underrated gem of a show! I ABSOLUTELY ADORE THIS SHOW SO MUCH! This was the show that showed me the massive scale and amazing potential of Green Lantern as this epic sci fi saga with fascinating creative lore and mythology, deep complex and interesting characters and amazing level of storytelling and nuance brought to a fantastic show too many have forgotten. I swear DC and WB are missing out on a goldmine when it comes to the cinematic potential of Green Lantern on the same level of quality storytelling this show had. I know many tend to prefer John Stewart and I love John too but I do also love Hal Jordan as rhe character has constantly been s*** on by DC even though hes actually an interesting, fun likable character who has a lot of emotional complexity to him that this show does a terrific job at exploring his flaws but also hi overwhelming will power and strengths as a character as he has plenty of insecurities we've all faced and even when he feels unworthy of being a GL his will overcomes rhe impossible abd thats inspiring. Razor and Aya are also arguably the most complex characters in the show and their relationship and dynamic is so excellently written and you see how much their relationship grows and how Razor was anchored by his rage but slowly earns redemption and grows to balance his rage and embrace his hope and love for Aya. I am so glad he is now officially canon to the comics. Kilowog was also such a great character that Kevin Micheal Richardson does a great job bringing to life as you see his undying loyalty for Hal, his fellow Green Lanterns and to Razor ans Aya. Aya is also such a terrific character and I love how they took their time diving into her innocence as a machine slowly learning emotions even when she became a villain she understood what it meant to live by sacrificing herself. Frankly I just adore how this show does a phenomenal job at exploring the Emotional Spectrum of Lantern Corps which is some of my favourite world building in the DC Universe and shows us the importance and validity of our feelings and why we should embrace and balance them instead of bottling them up. I just love this show so much and if any animated comic book show deserves a second season and given the X-Men 97 level of quality revival, it deserves to be Green Lantern The Animated Series!🟢💍🥹
The show was really cool, i still remember thinking that the Planet Lantern showing up to help Killwog during the end of season 1 was the coolest thing i had seen in years
One of the biggest reasons why I'm a die hard G.L fan is this awesome show, it deserved so much more and done alot of good for the Green Lantern mythos. (Damn, you really put the Title card in Yellow, huh? 💀)
This may just be one of my top 5 fav shows of all time, shame it never had a s2. I hoped DCU has a lanterns show like this but in live action, but after recent news i cant say im excited for that knowing it'll be nothing like this peak.
@@SkyTheBear It being set in an american heartland, and that Hal is going to be old as hell, which means he's not going to be a GL for long in this universe. None of this makes me feel like its gonna be heavy sci fi in space like this show was, it feels more like a yellowstone type show lol. Look i hope the shows great, but i REALLY doubt that it'll be anything as good as GLTAS, both as a GL show, and as a show in general.
@@Temple277 I think the show has the potential to be good, but you’re right it probably won’t be good in the same way. Like the new Penguin show isn’t explicitly a “Batman show” and more like a crime drama. The draw of GLTAS is taking the kind of ridiculous idea of “space rainbow emotion rings” and taking it seriously while telling a good story. I hope the new show can offer something unique like that
@@SkyTheBear Same, i hope we're proven wrong about this, but even if we do we gotta admit they gotta deacribe these shows better if Lanterns is like GLTAS but in live action [which fingers crossed for that!] And i'll say it, its always a red flag imo when they describe a comic book show as "grounded" or "realistic" lol. Have a great day!
Man this series is great. Love the animation. Gives Hal a proper character introduction and development along the way. Wish we got to see more of the Corps members but glad we saw some of them. Kilowog, Razor, and Aya were great. Man if we get Razor and Aya in the live action but don't want to get my hopes up. Seeing the different Lantern factions, possibly teasing the Lanterns' avatars. This show was great. Always rewatchable. Screamed seeing Razor and Kilowog reunite in YJ. 10/10 show.
I missed this show back when it was airing and never got around to watching it but always heard good things. Really seems like they covered a lot in that one season. They made this a little while after all the Sinestro Corps War and Blackest Night stuff too so it's kind of neat to see that they were covering so many pretty fresh stories since I see Orange Lantern stuff in there too. Maybe I can drag my friend into watching it with me sometime.
Thank you for this, truly! GL is in my top three, and I was greatly disheartened when they pulled the plug on this series. The story, villains, character growth, A++ work. I’m still recommending folks to this series!
At least they parts of Green Lantern animated survive in Young Justice, Justice League action and cameo crisis in infinities earth. I am still angry that we will never see A *Alien Green Lantern from the Sequel of Justice League Gods and Monsters.* What could’ve been. We don’t know if this character is original or not.
I'm glad you had a chance to check out this show, and more than that - that you've given us this video essay about it. Even as a Green Lantern fan, when this came out I was nervous about it. But I came out the otherwise considering it one of my favorite superhero shows of all time, up there with Justice League and Batman Beyond.
First of the greed ring was orange not yellow. The yellow ring is fear. Second the orange ring tempted them. Third this was a great deconstruction and I'd love to see you work over that young justice episode as it did him very well.
I live the scene where she gives him a new oath and he lies to her. Then in privacy you see him in anguish as he recites the true oath that he knows he no longer believes in but cannot abandon as he sees no other path to power at this time. It reminds me of dark knight Cecil from FFIV. He hated his dark sword but after years of training with it he can't simply toss it away as he needs power to confront the evil he knows is approaching.
one of my favorite things about this show was that it pulled some of the more obscure characters and lore from dc in a way that the average new fan that’s watching can actually understand
thank you for this GLTAS was my favorite show as a kid love your videos please keep up the great themes of your content i really enjoy when you dive deeper in to kids shows and again thank you for your amazing content
About 5-6 years ago my one sister and I were watch all the DC animated movies and shows we could find and we watched Green Lantern: First Flight & Emerald Knights. We had always kind of heard the the lanterns were a bit of a joke (probably because of how badly the live action movie was received). Anyway, we loved the two animated movies and we had also loved John in the animated show. So we I learned there was a green lantern show i we immediately looked it up on the dc streaming services we had at the time. We watched it and absolutely LOVED it. I have it on dvd now.
I should clarify that the show didn’t have poor toy sales like Young Justice did. It had NO toy sales since the movie’s failure led to retailers not wanting toys for the series. With no toys to promote, the show became pointless to Cartoon Network. A similar thing happened to Beware the Batman.
I fucking loved this show... binged it with my nephew.. Am glad got to see Razer in Young Justice.. Also the inclusion of Saint Walker was great.. Heard that they were going to do a massive emotional spectrum war for the third season before it got cancelled..
Managed to Watch this show, really solid story and characters even tho it still kinda feels like it cant be cause of the style lol. But actually watching, they work well designing within that I couldnt process it would be this good, and yet it was, but i still dont believe it lol Felt quite longer than 26 épisodes, they just develop stuff so well
I really like this style. I didn’t watch this show but I feel like you gave me everything I needed to appreciate it and how that modeled the characters.
ohhh my god YESS, one of my favourite superhero video essayists doing a video about GLTAS, one of my Top Fave superhero series... I'm looking forward to watching this all day when I wake up :D
This series is a blast! Worthy of the Animated Series subtitle. It is also why I began buying comics, starting with Geoff Johns' Green Lantern omnibuses.
I remember watching this show with my ilder siblings when we were all tennagers and absolutely losing our MINDS in the final scene when the blue ring came up on screen. I never realized there was some continuity.
Man when I first saw this show years ago I was ready to write it off as trash until I started watching it. I was blown away by how great it was. One of my favorite shows in the DC universe.
Underrated show, if anything I just wish Green Lantern media would have had some underrated villains like Doctor Polaris and Evil Star; just Non-Spectrum villains.
This show should've NEVER been canceled. This was fantastic. It was the ahow and young justice that i learned about toy sales and the show tied together with toy not selling well, then the show gets canned. And why should such a great show, a work of art, get canceled because toy manufacturers can't advertise their products effectively? Canceling and not bringing this back is a crime. Screw the toys. If it has high viewership and great ratings, keep it going. These shows shouldn't be dependent on toys to survive.
I didn’t appreciate this show when it was out I was a Young Justice guy but all these years later I love it smh. Should’ve had a second season at least
if they're the tmnt then that would make kilowag mikey by process of elimination, which initial reaction to that is a no the more u think about it its not that far off
Uhm, _ackshually,_ it’s orange energy that represents greed, not yellow! But I’m pretty sure you know that. Either way, I wish this series had gotten more air time.
This was a really undrrated show. A pity they couldn't include Sinestro and the Yellow Lanterns in it, since they were expecting a sequel to that terrible movie that never came.
A show cancelled way too soon. From the 1st episodes I was hooked. There was clearly more potential for further seasons, and a rich lore with all the different colored rings that could have been explored 😎. In addition, this series did way more in just it's first episode than the whole runtime of the green lantern film 😅.
