Hello Everyone, welcome to the first of 2 videos coming from the beautiful Duddon Valley in South West Cumbria. It is often described as ‘A Jewel in the Crown of Cumbria’ being that it is remote, unspoilt, and perhaps the most idyllic valley in the Lake District. It is situated between Coniston and Eskdale and affords spectacular views of the mountains of Scafell, Bowfell, and Great Gable. This video features the railway stations at Green Road and Foxfield both of which are on the Cumbrian Coast Line. Both stations are located in beautiful surroundings and Green Road in particular is very remote. The station straddles a road which peters out onto a nearby marsh and lies at some distance from the nearest dwelling. Foxfield Station was lucky to survive when the branch line connection to Coniston was closed to both passenger and freight traffic in the early 1960’s. There is no village to speak of within the vicinity of the station which instead acts as a railhead for the attractive little town of Broughton-in-Furness which is a mile or so to the north. I found both stations to be utterly charming and if you are looking for pure escapism I thoughtfully recommend a visit. I hope you enjoy the video.
