This is my first attempt at bikepacking. I ride the Greenbrier trail from the southern end to the northern and back in three days. This is part 1. I wanted to get more drone footage but i left it at the car because of the quiet zone.
The Greenbrier River Trail is a 78-mile former railroad now used for hiking, biking and horseback riding. It is the longest trail of its kind in West Virginia. The trail provides many breathtaking views as it passes through several small towns, crosses 35 bridges, goes through two tunnels and cuts through some of West Virginia’s most remote areas. The Greenbrier River Trail is one of 50 Millennium Legacy Trails in the United States, and was rated one of the top 10 hiking trails in the country by Backpacker Magazine. Part of the Greenbrier River Trail lies within a National Radio Quiet Zone so cell phones do not work.

I am really enjoying your Awesome Adventure Videos pretty much the same way that I travel on my Adventure Priority 600 ADX and the way you stop and look at things makes people feel that they are right with you on your trips ! Keep up the great trips and Videos because I will watch every one of yours for sure ! I haven’t been able to go on too many trips lately but I am ready to go on some longer long distance Adventures in the next few weeks as I envy you on your travels ! Have fun and be careful with tire side down always !

Hey Bane! Looks like another way to get out in the woods- always better than the couch. Nice job improvising gear. If it works, that is all that matters.

I bikepacked the C & O canal a couple of times when I was a lot younger. It's awesome! I'd recommend doing it in the fall. It can be pretty muddy in the spring.

Hey Bane! I;m looking to do the Greenbrier first week in Oct - I'm also a hammock camper - can you give any advice on which are the best campsites for an 11' hammock and tarp? Thanks!
@TheBane1979
@TheBane1979 Год назад
Off the top of my head I don’t even recall which ones I stayed at. I think the only official one was around mile 31. I can get back with ya later to let ya know which spots I was at, but I recall all the camp sites looked good for hammocks if my memory is right

@@TheBane1979 Ride Along Adventures is probably one of the first channels I started watching a couple of years ago. Now I follow maybe a dozen. Glad to have discovered your channel !! You seem to be a true hard core adventurer and are more my style of adventurer. Riding the distances and roughing it a bit more. I’m getting some of the shorter nearby trails under my belt and now feel ready to do the longer trails and travel the distances to get to them. My concern is figuring out where to park the car for the days on end I might be on trail. Some trailheads on certain trails do not allow overnight parking I’ve discovered.
@TheBane1979
@TheBane1979 3 месяца назад
@@deniseemory4359 yea, parking is an issue. I’m always worried I’ll come back and have been robbed or something. Catalytic converters are a big target apparently.
@deniseemory4359
@deniseemory4359 3 месяца назад
@@TheBane1979 also a concern for sure. I also get nervous leaving my bike to go into a store for supplies. I do have a good sturdy lock and an alarm, but leaving all the gear and my little dog out of sight even for a minute is concerning. I need to find a ride partner that would be willing to take turns watching stuff !!

@@deniseemory4359 I have the same issue. Sometimes I’ll push my bike right inside. I always lock it, and I take my electronics in with me

My 1st trip was on C&O only because it's close to me. But it has free campsites every 5 to 8 miles about. 184 miles. Waterpumps but need to filter water now. My early trips were heavy with a BOB trailer and no light or Waterproof gear/bags.

@TheBane1979 on C&O some campsites have trees to hang hammock. I'll send a link where can view the campsites.

Cant wait to ride this trail. Are there good places to stop and fish? Want to bring my fly rod with me.
@TheBane1979
@TheBane1979 3 месяца назад
@@FL-PHILLIP I don’t know any thing about fishing to be honest, but most of the trail is right by the river so I’d have to assume there’s fishing along the trail!

Just curious to know where you park your vehicle for an overnighter? Thank you

Parking the car and leaving it makes me paranoid, on this trip I just parked at the parking lot on the south end in Caldwell. Generally I park at the trail heads and just hope for the best. I don’t leave any thing of value, and I haven’t lost me catalytic converter yet lol

for one thing dude, your gear selection is not all that good. And your bike can do it, but it is not set up for touring. you need a touring bike or a hybrid bike that is set up for touring. you could lessened the load a bit and would work a lot better.

You’re probably the first person to toss out this advice! Glad someone finally did. Yea, I’m not really much of a cyclist and didn’t wanna invest before trying it out. This is my first of two trips, and I just got a new trek 520!
