Almost all of us were like brothers. We talked a lot of shit to each other, it was hilarious. The Samoans protected everyone like family, we all have a lot of respect and love for each other. One of the coolest experiences I've ever had. 😎 I had the hardest job on the processing vessel. My suggestion, build cardio, lift 50 lbs for 16 hours a day, get used to sleeping while laying on the floor. Mine had a A,B,C crew. Different hours, basically one to two crews could be working at the same time. If you're interested go on indeed and do a app.

My father did this in Alaska during the 70s and 80s, it is one of the most difficult, punishing, and dangerous jobs in the world. Your body and mind need to have durability and stamina that most people simply DO NOT HAVE. Skill helps greatly, but you have to be able to last long enough to obtain that experience and develop that skill, most people can't even get that far. Even then, there is an element of luck involved. People literally die out there all the time. Good, experienced people have died. These are some of the most inhospitable seas in the world and humans really are not meant to be there. It's one of the reasons drug and alcohol addiction is such a problem for the people in this industry, they do anything to cope. There is no shame in admitting you can't do it and quitting, the ocean defeats everyone eventually.

Honestly i dont blame him. I did turn over for the arena where i live, Taking tempered glass pannels out, taking the boards out, covering ice with ice decking and then setting out chairs and even i have seen people come in with a high and mighty attitude and leave at the end of the night singing a different tune because We get a break *IF* we are ahead of schedule. Because that has to be done that night, there is no ifs ands or buts, it has to be turned over and ready by the time the crew trucks for a concert get there or morning of a hockey game. Crab fishing, honestly if i could try it... Yeah i would have tried it just to see what it was like. Would i want to do it for years and years? absolutely not. Its really not easy and its really dangerous. In the end though no one has the right to give the kid grief because in the end he tried, and hey he made it through the season, he pushed through the pain until the end so that in its self is an achievement. Blake has heart and that alone is gonna take him places.

I'll not mention any names but his kid has been an ass on the show a few seasons. This does beg the question though - how are you supposed to be good at something - when you've never done it before (or had very limited concepts)? Everyone is a greenhorn to begin with, but when it was realised that this guy had hand cramps, nothing was done to address that? I doubt that this guy was 'completely broken', he'd just been pushed beyond his limits - but isn't that the essence of learning new things? If the job is easy, you're not exactly going to learn.... but when the going gets real hard, that's when people often learn. Sometimes, it takes a while, people need time to adjust to the 'new'.... but that doesn't mean that they're broken. People are surprisingly resilient, some just need a bit more of 'crew support' when it's needed, not at the last moment.

This looks easy just watching a video of crab fishing. Your hands and forearms require years of conditioning to withstand the punishment they’re going to be put through. Took me a couple years to be able to do bodywork, physically. Especially the hands and forearms, but also the stomach and chest muscles take a beating. The pain during those years was intense. You definitely don’t need to go to the gym if you work a crab fisherman’s job, I guarantee it😬😞. Brutal

At least he was liked. Normally I see the green horns and nobody likes them at the end especially bill

Good kid, good crew. He knew he couldn’t do it, but he tried and accepted it wasn’t for him and parted as friends.

He gave it his all and never quit. That’s what is most important in life. That kid is leaving with a nice chunk of change, a great life story to tell, and the ability to hold his head up high.

Well he made it through the trip without just giving up 🤷‍♂️ most people wouldn’t be able to do that, fishing the berring sea is without question one of the most difficult jobs you can have. Also the most amazing of you ask me tho.

Can't imagine the kind of mental toughness it takes to work in those conditions. I love working in the water but in freezing cold and current that heavy is something else so hats off to you and those who do that.
