Discovered this interesting slug under a plate in the garden. He was very small, maybe 1cm, but close up he was a giant!
There are about 40 species of slugs found in North America. The greenhouse slug was found originally in Morocco, but now is abundant around the world, and widely distributed in the United States.
They live mostly in cultivated areas, they like moist soil, and are found under stones or hiding in crevices; it is a burrowing species, causing serious injury to roots and stems. If seen on plants and stems it means that many more are below the soil surface.
An adult can be 50mm long (about 5cm, or close to 2 inches) or even up to 3 inches, so the one in this video was quite young.
