Fitted an Ocean Cycles (UK) carbon fibre tailbox to my Greenspeed Aero. I had several questions regarding if it made my trike faster. Time to try it out.
oh oh that DH speed scares me - My trike is VERY twitchy at speed - above 50km/h is white-knuckle territory. Mine is home-made but with GS kingpins - thinking I need to reduce my toe-in and perhaps slow the steering-ratio a bit.
Crazy speed....over 70km/h. How do you keep the full control on the Greenspeed trike? I find steering my GT20 above 45km/h challenging already sometimes.
Completey different trike and steering. Take your time getting used to your GT20 and don't grip really firmly on the steering. Gentle steering inputs at speed are the best.
I rode a Quest velomobile down a few hills (Planet pride in the South Pacific) and never got to 70kph but maybe your hill is steeper. Too fast for me especially holding a camera. Thanks for the clip.
Tim, I am very curious if you could do a comparison between your rotovelo and the greenspeed aero. I have an Alpha 7 and am considering a greenspeed aero, because of the quick acceleration, light weight and far superior turning radius. I understand that rotovelo has a much better turning radius than the Alpha 7 though- have you tried your rotovelo in the city? But even so I am certain the greenspeed aero accelerates way quicker than a velomobile ever would and has a superior turning radius too. btw that is one bad ass cool looking trike, is that stock plus the tailbox? Where did you get that awesome neck/head supporter?
You cant really compare the Aero and the Rotovelo. The velomobile will always have a better top speed, but take a lot longer getting to that speed. The Aero does accelarate better, and handles tight corners better too. If I was riding in a big city, I would pick the Aero everytime, but then you loose the weather protection. If you could afford to keep the Alpha AND buy an Aero, i think you'd be pretty happy.
Where is that and are there any bigger, faster downhills in your area you can show? Best big downhill I can think of around Adelaide is Willunga hill on South Road- who knows what speed you'll do on an Aero down that, probably over the state limit.
Hi Ross, this was on the Western Highway (main road to Adelaide} about 40m kms west of Melbourne between Melton and Bacchus Marsh. It had just been bypassed by a new bit of freeway. I moved away from that area about 2 years ago now. I'm now in central Victoria (goldfields district) and there is not as many steep hills around this area. It didnt feel that the Aero would have rolled much faster on that hill. I was attempting to see if the fitting of the tailbox and carbon wheel covers would make much difference. Ian Sims from Greenspeed was interested in that test, as the carbon covers had just arrived for the Aero.
