I love Steller's Jays. I've painted a couple. here's one: www.artsy.net/artwork/greg-craola-simkins-stellar

So a couple years ago, I was at my Printers and hey were getting rid of thousands of scrap, acid free matte board that they use when they are framing. I asked fort and they gave me tons. It is a perfect surface for these studies. You can get similar by searching heavy illustration boards or matte boards. Acid free is the best. Experiment with different papers. Also you can get MDF (boards) at home depot and have them cut down to do studies on. Make sure and gesso them. Matte Medium is a good primer for the paper studies as well. I've discussed this in other videos and wished I would have added to this.

@@GregSimkinsArt Thanks mate! That's valuable insight and info. I just bought MDF boards and cut them up as suggested and getting gesso tomorrow. I will definitlely look into other suggestions you've made especially Mat Medium. Thanks again.

Golden Acrylics are great. I prefer the fluid acrylics over the heavy body
