This is great! My ex-wife and I ran into him at Wegman's grocery in Ithaca, NY. It was 2003 or 2004. We drove from Detroit to Niagara Falls for the night, then to Ithaca for my cousin's wedding. I told my wife, "I should look Greg Graffin up in the phone book. I think he teaches here or is working on his PhD here." We both chuckled at my nonsensical statement...Twenty minutes in Ithaca, and we were hungry, and since we were both vegan, went to Wegman's because of their great vegan/vege hot bar. We sat down and I saw a nerdy middle-aged guy sitting at a nearby table, along with a cute 21 year old chick. I said to my wife, "that guy looks JUST like Greg Graffin!!!" Nah, it couldn't be! I was just talking about looking him up a few hours ago! I couldn't eat and kept looking at him & the cute chick. Finally my wife said, "just go up and ask him if he's Greg from BR!" As they were getting up from eating, I approached him. "Excuse me, are you Greg Graffin from BAD RELIGION??" He said, "why yes, I am Greg Graffin." Holy shit! "Dude, your music & lyrics changed my life and help mold who I am today!!" He said, "thank you. That means a lot to hear that." Then I said (because I just had to!) "why haven't you re-released "Into the Unknown"?? And will you EVER re=release it?!" He chuckled and said, "you can find it easy enough on the internet. But maybe when BAD RELIGION stops recording new music, we'll formally re-release it." I told him I've had a crappy quality found online for a few years now.... He was the nicest guy and I'm glad I talked to him!!! Been a fan since 1986!!

Okay lad, I officially envy you right now. ;-) Because as a European from Austria, my chance to just casually run into Greg Graffin and the other BR blokes by chance is not even close to, but exactly zero. On the other hand, I think it would be nice to just have a nice casual chat with them about everyday life or whatever over a brew or a pint, because for the last three decades, I suppose the lads from BR did have _way_ more than their fair share of chats with fans who told them how godlike they are. So they might just enjoy if people would prefer a nice craic because contrary to some rumours, band members in general still aren't unearthly gods but just humans who might enjoy a healthy dose of not always having to be famous now and then. So... I sense that you and Greg got along well - and _that's_ the only thing that counts in the end, innit? :-)

You're lucky he was nice to you in regards to "Unknown". I met Gene Simmons at an in-store in 2003 and made the mistake of complementing him on an album I luv but he considered a mis-step :"The Elder" (1981). DAMN! You shouldda seen the dirty look he gave me- and he wasn't even wearing his demon make-up!

I consider him to be one of the most talented musician's & song writers of today. I can barely put into words how Bad Religion and Graffins solo work have helped carry me through the darkest parts of my life

I like the tune, lyrics are solid and I'll need to listen to the rest of the album to make sure, but you have picked a great time to break into a genre that's been dying to explode, "PunKountry" proncd Puh-Country isn't my favorite word but it explains an edge country has needed for a while now that rock has brought so many fans to listen to country music and visa versa. Or maybe this is just one song that sounds twangy and the rest are different? Anyway, long time fan since 85, Orange County, CA

> Or maybe this is just one song that sounds twangy and the rest are different? Actually, both. Some songs on Millport also have the "twangy" sound as you call it, but some sound quite different ("Time of Need" from Millport for instance is definite gospel-ish). I'm a long-time fan of BR, too (IIRC a friend got me hooked in 1986 with the Back to the Known EP) and I discovered Graffin's solo stuff just about a year ago. Definitely something worth listening in to, I'd say. While his first solo album (American Lesion from 1997) still sounded quite "raw" and was almost pure folk stuff (not in a bad way, though, the rawness actually gives it a solid amount of authenticity), the two later ones (Cold as the Clay from 2006 and, you probably guessed it already, Millport from last year) still include a very nice share of "folksy" sound, but were also definitely inspired additionally by Alternative Country/Americana. I got me all three albums in autumn last year, and the only thing I regret is the sad fact that Graffin hasn't made _more_ solo albums yet. :-)

Well, I never was one for trouble But I reckon it was for me When I was just a little boy Pap put me on his knee And he said, "Dear son, steer clearly On the high road you should stay 'Cause down there in them valleys, boy Them detour make ya stray" He said, "Don't waste tomorrow on today's idle time It's hard time living on the backroads of your mind" On the backroads of my mind Where the turns are mostly blind Reckoning by wrote and memory Well, they don't been deducted and lately you're in decline It's hard time living on the backroads of my mind Now the years flew by so swiftly And I can't say they was kind The old home and my family I left it all behind For a life of hopeful fortune On the highways I did grow But like so many dead-end roads They left me all alone I ain't ne'er been to Jackson Where trouble's so easy to find I mourned my fair share here on the backroads of my mind On the backroads of my mind Where the turns are mostly blind Reckoning by wrote and memory Well, they don't been deducted and lately you're in decline It's hard time living on the backroads of my mind On the backroads of my mind Where the turns are mostly blind Reckoning by wrote and memory Well, they don't been deducted and lately you're in decline It's hard time living on the backroads of my mind Yes, it's hard time living on the backroads of my mind

Yea, but not too much, I hope. I would just _loathe_ it if Graffin would someday lose the coarse tone in his voice which makes it so very unique and start to sound like a bloody opera singer. Just imagine him starting to do coloraturas during a BR gig - that would be just _awul_ .

@LTrain 45/videos You might have a point there, I' d say. But in the end, even the sharpest cutting edge technology won't ever be a able to replace talent and determination - I assume we might have some common ground on that, innit? :-)
