Joe B said pound for pound Greg is probably the best guitarist in the world,I say amen to that. His playing is just so interesting, he doesn't hide behind excess distortion or undue flashiness, he doesn't need to. Awesome phrasing, tone to die for and some great sounding chord voicings, he leaves you wanting for nothing. And there are still plenty of guitarists who've never heard of him. Cracking band too!
Given Greg's large stature, he likely has plenty of pounds! Seriously though, Greg's playing, phrasing, and endless musical ideas are in a league that nobody can duplicate.
Greg is getting older …. in the best sense, less gimmicks, less Gristle? …. but more mind boggling musicality, he always had his chops , but lately with the youngsters playing with him , he seems to me really into it , incredible, incredible …
Greg, you keep getting better and better. The instrumental Since I Been Loving You at the 52 minute mark is some of the best I heard in a while. I like the nod of the hat to Roy Buchanan song. It’s all good.
This is the dream..... the music I love. The pickers I have the utmost respect for. This is the type of show I have originally wanted to produce myself. Axe, drums and keys on steroids... I had a similar act working in 2003 on the Florida Gulf Coast and it was fun and contagious. But after hurricanes and oil spills my local music dream went horribly bad. So I went trucking OTR for 14 years. Now I'm back on the Gulf trying to find the right players but pickin's are slim....
I saw you reach for that Les Paul switch and it wasn’t there 😂 I love firebirds but that annoys me too you sound great with it. But then again you could play a 2x4 with strings and make it do things most of us regular dudes wish we could do.
Thank you sooo much for posting. I was at this show and the whole band was scorching!!!!!I took some vids but nothing g like this. Greg please get back down to South Florida!!!!!
Sweet Alabama Jesus! This is the best guitar artistry I have heard in such long time.. Maybe since Jimmy Page was at the height of his Dark Wizard Powers.
Was gonna say the same thing! Recently tried a jazz master and found it incredibly inconvenient having pickup selector down there like on this firebird!
Not a big fan of the country style pickin' thing that has started coming into some blues guys chops, but Greg incorporates it nicely and seamlessly enough and makes it his own where it doesn't irritate my blues sensibility leaning ears. Anyway, amazing and humorous fun! Great job boys.
Great playing and show. Keyboard bass is a bit non traditional in blues rock band. Nothing replaces an SVT and solid player. Maybe a sousaphone bassist could beat it.
I mean, the organ trio (guitar/organ/drums) is one of the most classic guitar trio formats of all time, dating back to the Chitlin’ Circuit & all the classic blues / soul jazz lineups featuring guys like Capt. Jack McDuff, Jimmy McGriff and Dr Lonnie Smith on organ… and George Benson, Grant Green and Kenny Burrell on guitar… and, of course, Wes Montgomery & Jimmy Smith back in the 50’s & 60’s.
