Seeing him play at Birchmere when he was around this age and I treasure that night with such a kind passionate man. I loved his story about the MOOG solo in Lucky man. They were running out of time and needed a last song for the record. The guys went to the pub and he took Lyrics he wrote as a twelve year old and worked up the song. The MOOG was dropped off while they were out and when they returned it was cut in one take with that solo his first go on the MOOG.

When you learned an instrument in the time that Greg would have first started, you had to learn it the traditional way....by developing an ear and practicing all the time. There was no auto tune, no internet with free charts or even digital tuners. It was all by ear and that is why they could recognize how to be original and craft the music they heard in their heads to the songs we heard on the radio.

Artists weren’t clones of one another, and they took pride in being different. It was all about the music, not the money. RIP buddy.

Greg was a great musician. "C'est La Vie" from ELP is still one of my favourite songs. In the 70's, his work with Keith Emerson and Carl Palmer was marvellous. There aren't many groups of their quality left nowadays, sadly it's all over .....

Wow!!!!!!! My records when I was 12 living in Hamburg as an American kid where all elp....pictures, tarkus, in the beginning- no wonder that music touched me. IT was classical they were trained, they were reaching. I had all the records up to the brain salad and the live 3 please set. And then king - I talk to the wind led the journey to genesis. What a time. What a music. I need to carry it on the best I can with my guitar. At 60im more inspired than ever, more jealous of the time that remains to try to achieve the most I possibly can. Thank you Greg lake for sharing and giving and leaving a legacy.

It was fairy tale music; timeless, ethereal. You were transported to another place and time.

As much as I loved him in ELP (and solo), he was an ORIGINAL member of King Crimson!

Keith RIP and Carl got most of the ink but Greg IMHO is way under rated both as a bass/guitarist and vocalist....

@@helencavendish1993 I actually call it a 3rd wave British Invasion . The first was the Beatles , Dave Clark Five , Kinks, Stones etc. The 2nd is considered Cream , The Who ,Small Faces ,etc. I think the 3rd is Jethro Tull and King Crimson . One can hear it take shape and it is close to the 2nd wave but different in philosophy. After Jethro Tull’s debut , Ian Anderson stated that we figured out that we weren’t Bluesmen from Chicago and thus came the Middle Agee’s Renaissance/ European Bohemian influence in the work. Greg Lake said something similar about King Crimson’s formation and entry into the music scene . I am a Yank by the way .

His description of seeing Elvis live is every bit true, at 15 years old it was a feeling I could never explain, in saying that while in my late thirties experiencing the very talented king of pop MJ came close.

It wasn't 2020 yet when you said this. Sometimes I think Lake and Emerson and Bowie et al might've gotten the better end of the detail meeting their Maker when they did. I must say that in an age of isolation and turmoil, these fine gentlemen are _still_ bringing happiness and contentment to millions of us just through these RU-vid videos when they still had their vitality and showed why they were such incredible people. Greg Lake especially. Not just a supreme talent and musical genius but also a stellar human being and a decent man -- a lot like his "forerunner," Justin Hayward.

One of the things I love about Greg is that he never plays a song in the same way, you know peolpe, he plays nice licks and chord voicings that really inspire, So if you watch five, six or seven versions of songs like From The Beginnig, lucky Man or The Sage you could find many nice licks you can learn and add to your own version and sound really cool.... That's the reason because he is my acoustic guitar hero.....
