Norman is the MAN. No matter what happens in golf he will be remembered as one of the best. His driving should always be ranked as top 5 best ever.......you don't stay no.1 that long if you can not drive the ball.

Was at The Australian GC that week for Thur or Fri. Next year in 96 at the same course that a new Pro, Tiger Woods, debuted in Aus... First saw Norman at the 86, 87, NSW Open at Concord Golf Course, Sydney. 4 People deep galleries for Norman on every hole, massive crowds. I think he won both. Total prize money for 144 players was 50k!

No one lit up a course like Norman when he was on a charge. Unfortunately he never converted that enormous talent into a decent number of majors, mainly because he was one of the unluckiest players out there. And no amount of talent can fix that.

john fisher one of the very few cases where that’s actually true. The man was genuinely unlucky

He was as talented as anyone that ever played. Incredible player in his prime.

He also choked. A lot. I loved Norman, but he also lost a bunch of majors by choking away leads. Shooting 78 on the final day of the Masters to go from a 6 shot lead to a 5 shot loss is not bad luck. It's an epic choke.
@pb12661
@pb12661 4 года назад
@@ruscopcoltrain that was about the only time you could say he REALLY "choked." And that said, Faldo played great that day and would have been hard to beat had Greg had a "good" day. I think, as the OP said, he was actually more unlucky than anything else. You don't win two majors and a bunch of tournaments on the pga tour/around the world being a true choker. JMTCW

Never heard Norman talk about why he flattened his backswing so much compared to his early days on tour.
@lambert1702
@lambert1702 4 года назад
He did because Butch Harmon told him to.

Butch Harmon got him to flatten his backswing and shorten it.

I know that he was having a lot of problems with too much backspin on his approach.

He did it because he flared out that 4 iron and lost the Jack Nicklaus in 1986.

It's a pitty Greg couldn't putt when it mattered and he lost his confidence after loosing the Masters that he should have won to Faldo. The Tiger came in 97 and that was it for Greg.

Greg was the finest choker across all sports. That he won two majors only proves that once you reach the pinnacle of choking its all down hill
