Greg wouldn't play the clip of a woman explaining why she chose to do a thing and then immediately ask "but why did she really?" Because he's a misogynist right? Right?
As someone who was a music major it pains me to see someone miss the forest for the trees this badly. Taking inspiration, chord progressions, etc. from previous music is something that's existed since classical music or even before. Hell, that "four chord song" thing that he harps on can be seen in things as far back as Pachelbel, the chord progression is just tones that naturally flow and resolve into one another so it makes sense that they're popular and used in lots of things. It's not "regurgitated content" any more than two painters using the same shade of blue would be.
Thank you! I was also a music major and sitting here going: Does ... does Greg not know that Music Theory is a thing? Like an entire discipline devoted to analyzing how music works? That music isn't just bestowed from on high by the muses or the Green Man or whatever? No? Ah, to have the confidence of a mediocre white man.
@@streamerssaymyname And I bet you if more would actually do so he'd decry the death of modern music because "all this new music doesn't even sound like music anymore"
@@nathanjasper512 Maybe before his "new age" rebrand, when he washed his hair and didn't mew his lips for every thumbnail. Now it's like he knows he *can be* attractive and is trying way too hard to lean into it. "Here, let me put on my most eye-catching pink shirt and sculpt every angle of my facial hair, because I don't know a middle ground between 'looking like I don't care at all about my appearance' and 'looking like I want to be a Hunger Games villain.'"
Actors were chased out of Roman cities frequently. Actors have only VERY recently become respected people in society. This is preceded by thousands of years of actors being treated with suspicion and derision. Color me not shocked that Greg doesn’t know this VERY WELL KNOWN FACT
Yup, it's only when cinema was invented and started making fortunes in the silent Era that actors started being regarded with anything like respect. And that was mostly in the states. Derision for actors was still the norm in Europe till the end of ww2 iirc.
My only celebrity conspiracy is that they’re running out of money cause there’s SO many doing random commercials now that I wouldn’t expect to be in one
11th cousin is so far removed it doesn't even mean anything. You go 5 branches up on your family tree, and assuming you aren't a Hapsburg, you have over 100 grandparents.
@@alexj-t2331 I mean, it depends, sometimes they just perform the song, sometimes they do all of it, I know Rick Astleys current music is mostly written by him.
Back in the day artists didn't even write songs, Elvis Presley and Frank Sinatra never wrote anything they performed, some people are just better at writing and some are better at performing, not everyone can be Paul McCartney
I feel like Armored Skepdick was better served being a faceless asshole on the internet hiding behind a suit of armor avatar rather than revealing himself to look as douchey as anyone could imagine IRL.
I just realized hes targeting these videos at kids. Thats why he picks such fake deep topics and drops such common knowledge. Its also why he speaks so slowly with such simple language, censors his swears, uses such an exaggerated affect, and poses so much. This is literally shit for unsupervised 4th graders.
@@s0nnasauras630well, back in the day he did videos debunking mostly religious stuff and was entertaining to watch. Then shoeonhead broke him and he road the fast train to crazy town.
Is this guy just finding about the concept of celebrity persona’s or something? It’s like we’re all witnessing this dude going through a slow but gradual schizophrenic spiral
@@adamplentl5588 for me it depends on the genre. For pop artists that are doing a lot of dance work it absolutely doesn’t bother me. But I’m a hip hop fan and I wouldn’t enjoy a live performance with lip syncing.
Meatloaf can’t write a song for shit and Jim Stieman was a terrible singer. Together the made Bat out of Hell. Yea Greg…. art is collaborative. Shocking.
Y’know how they say anti-semitism is the low quality, dollar store anti-capitalism? I think the same is true for hating celebrities Like, there isn’t a single thing Greg said in this video that I didn’t uncritically think back in high school
I hate people who worship other people. And how is anti-Semitism equate to anti-capitalistism? I generally live under a rock because in my almost 40 years of existence I've learned people suck and most entertainment does, too. That causes me to miss out on things sometimes, though.
Wait until Greg discovers how many AC/DC songs he can play through the magic of Mister G Chord, Mister C chord, and friendly Mister D Chord. .. I mean wooooooo Satan!
I used to make music videos as a hobby and yes Nightcore is a hack to get around a copyright. But I really love Slowed and Reverbed too and I will take those claims.
There's tons of really talented musicians today he thinks that just cuz he's not famous that nobody else has any talent. I didn't know who most of those people were in the picture I recognized little Nas x not a big fan but he is a big part of making his own music he made himself famous he just doesn't commission it
Why are most of Greg's arguments just "I'm 16 and this is deep" kind of thoughts? Cause "mainstream music is cringe, bro" is something I would expect from the kid that had just listened to Master of Puppets in 2008. Like, we get it, mate; you're not like the other divorcees.
It's cool how he doesn't bring up the Beatles or Eric Clapton or Led Zeppelin actually ripping off artists and making fortunes off their work. Greg was brave enough to tackle the lies and manipulation of manufactured pop music.
As soon as he started going "they all relate back to royalty" I immediately knew he was going to JQ. Seems like he's saving that particular question for his next video
I remember Hannah reloaded covering him and being upset about him being a liar and terrible person. A few days later Jake did his livestream about her.
Greg is not easy to take seriously when he talks about music, when he knows nothing about it. The popular progression he's talking about is I - vi - IV - V. That is, the tonic, then relative minor, then fourth, then perfect fifth. This is used when trying to reach the highest number of people. And promoting that Metallica hoax takes away any chance of credibility. Greg relies heavily on the ignorance, gullibililty, and/or stupidity of his audience. Grown adults should know better.
He's not wrong. A lot of people do worship celebs, and the majority are vapid and self-obsessed. But, like, don't we all already know that? Its hardly news to most people.
i went and watched the first video in this playlist and if course hes from my small shitty town and has a narcissistic conspiracy about local landmarks
Would explain a lot of things like such low numbers and all sightings are without any breasts or genitalia. Very confusing when you give it a couple seconds of thought.
The intro music after his preamble is the same stock track another conspiracy-tuber "secure team" has been using for years now, so talk about hypocrisy lol oh yeah but he disclaims that in the preamble so he's exempt from criticism
Jennifer Lopez literally doesn't sing the hook from "Jenny from the Block", i don't know why he didn't mention it since he brought it up but he's actually kind of right about that
And there are a ton of songs, across all genres, that make covers... Then you get into remixes and just taking samples... It does feel like whatever stuff is on the radio is nothing but. I listen to Spotify but when I make a short trip and don't bring my phone, I'll turn on the radio and the new stuff isn't even new so I kind of get it.
Oh it's another episode of "Pretentious Nobody Complains about Cynical and Manipulative Media Propaganda" through his innovative series of cynical and manipulative propaganda media. I like to imagine that between the many cuts in his videos, his mum is shouting at him to "come up stairs for dinner already!"
he's just wrong. legally, you need to have 8 consecutive notes in common, with the same identifiable rhythm etc to breach copyright. if they won, it couldn't have been over 3 chords. 90 percent of the rock music ever written would be illegal. i'm beginning to believe this man just makes shit up. where does he et off calling himself a skeptic? he seems to just believe whatever he wants.
At least with History Is A Lie, it felt like he was producing original material. It’s possible that it was all cribbed from other conspiracy theorists, but I felt like he was putting his own spin on it.
A better example of (pop/rock) songs using the same chord progressions is the Jimmy Fallon 80s medley where he sings a ton of well-known songs over Can't Touch This. Humans naturally find certain patterns in music appealing - so a lot of songs use those patterns. This is a silly thing to get worked up over. It's not a secret, because it's not a big deal, lol.
Ok lets talk about the Axis of awesome chords since he brought it up. Yes a lot of songs feature the chord progression of 1 4 6 4, but if you unferstand how harmony works in music its really not all that surprising. If you're going to stay in one key there are only 7 chords to choose from and only 6 that people typically use. A chord progression is likely to start on 1 the 5 and the 4 chords are the most common other chords to use and the 6 chord is the most common outside of that. To put it simply this chord progression is kind of like the meat and potatoes of music. The only progression that I think would be more basic would be 1 4 5 1 or maybe 1 4 6 5 or in jazz everything is basically 2 5 1. But I mean out of the millions of songs out there there are bound to be a lot that use the same chords. But chords are the most basic parts of a song so it doesnt really make those two songs all that similar necessarily. Also those songs are put togrther in such a way that they form a loop of a particular part of the song that uses those chords. The chord progression may continue and those 4 chords might only be a part of the progression and some of them have other parts if the song that feature other chords. And I think a few of the songs dont actually use those chords they use chords that are similair and the melody can just kind of work over those chords.
What has to go wrong in your life to get to the point where you make a half-hour video about how celebrities aren't _actually_ human beings (and not in the fun lizard-people or aliens sort of way)?
With 4 chords you can learn like 1000 songs. Hell, this is kind of a thing in all art really. Artists "steal" from other artists all the time. I don't mean by literally painting one for one exactly the same thing, but getting bits and pieces and Frankensteining them all into something new. Everyone creative creates from something that already exists in the world, therefore things will often seem repeatative. I'm not the best communicator, but basically just learn music theory & stop being intellectually lazy. Ffs.
The 4 cords thing is like saying painters keep using the same 4 main colors/oils/varnish. There's only so many chords and only so many ways it can be put together.
@@streamerssaymyname funny you say that... actually you're correct and we do. I'm an acrylic artist, I really only need 4 colors to make 1000s of pieces of art. Color theory and music theory are probably more alike than I even realized. That's pretty cool actually!
