Thanks for watching it, I really appreciate it. Pikes Peak is such an amazing race. 2012 was probably my last year racing motorcycles there. I broke my back and had a really bad concussion the week before this run was filmed, gave it my all! Not sure I want to push it like that on a bike there again. I am working on racing a car there in 2013! Have a great day!!
I think the sit up style bikes are best for this type of race. Because there are 156 turns and there is no sighting lap, committing to your front wheel on a superbike is tricky. The multistrada or hyper work well in this environment because you can make adjustments quicker when you all of a sudden lose the rear or front tire. We will see I am sure of that. To be honest the amount of commitment needed to go the speeds we did is pretty over the top. Thanks for the comment, all the best. GT
Hey Greg, killer run. What type of tires are you using by chance? Saw in previous videos you are using tire warmers, are those slicks or DOT race rubber. Keep up the good work CHEERS and Congrats.
Has to be the best run up there, I've said before this inspired me to go buy one, after kidney cancer. I bought it and looked at it in my dining room for 6mths, whilst recovering.. 4yrs on still here. cheers Greg Tracy, I appreciated the Face book message you sent me, Top Man..
I am happy people have had the chance to see what the run up looks like. Funny it has always been such a passion for me and I really enjoy that my fellow Ducatista get to ride along. Thanks for taking the time to say hello.
I like how you put it about the risk "Possibly not as much as some might have and more than others". Incredible riding, I am glad to hear that you made it through in one piece and are still getting after it!
My God man. I live in the mountains in SoCal and ride sportbikes, a superduke 1290r and a Ducati Pikes Peak. I thought I was pretty spiffy. Turns out, not so much. This video is inspiring, frightening, nerve wrenching and well... frightening. Holy Hell man, good stuff. Wow.
If you never been there you could not understand how brave this ride was,it was epic. Hats off to you Sir, when I drove up, very slowly I might add, I couldn't breath too well due to the elevation ,I reckon you would have been huffing and puffing a bit too !! Love your work, love to see a clip of you at the Beartooth Pass !
my neighbor had a rare Ducati. 1972 400cc single piston. One of two still in existence of that model back in 1979. He popped wheelies with it all the time.
It may have been an older video. This year the course was for the first time, paved to the top. I appreciate you taking time to watch it. I also checked out your youtube page and loved the Macau video you have up,
Greg, met you this year at the first turn on the hill right before the start line right after the Puegot car went. Appreciated you chatting with us, really cool to meet you and will cheer you on in the future too!
Thanks so much. My favorite time is very early am practice and the sun is coming up below you which casts a perfect shadow against the cliff of the bike. All the best.
Simply breath-taking! The bends are so similar and landmarks/braking points so few, it must be a nightmare to try and learn. Well done to all who take part.
+Peter Kelly i don't understand those spectators. came all the way to pikes peak location and see barely one blink of second motorcycle passing by...... what a waste of time and boring.
That is a super solid run!!! Just remember to give the Mountain respect like your surfing the biggest wave on the planet. If it wants the Mountain can bite you. Hope to see you there this year!!!
Thanks Eddie, You are going to love that motorcycle!!!! Tell Vince thanks from me for sending you to this clip. I have really enjoyed this race, put my heart and soul into it for 16 years. Hope to see ya on the track or trail one of these days.
attacking it more like a dirt bike than a track bike. it's a rough road. Pin it when you can, break hard sliding into the turns. ya got the whole road blocked off, might as well use it! thanks for posting. jb
Absolutely insane riding I live in the springs and regularly rode up pikes on a 2001 sv650 until last month, when i bought a 2014 multistrada 1200 A little humbling the way this video puts into context what that bike *could* do with the right rider on board. We'll see how I do when the snow clears off in a few weeks
Are you running an aftermarket handlebar? I'm trying to get my riding position a little more forward and less bolt upright. I notice what looked like a protaper logo on the bars, was that just a sponsor sticker or did you actually use their bars?
I'm training for the 2014 ppihc, on a 450 unless i'll switch to 750 if i find the money. This will be my motivatinal video. Thank you! PS: Do you still hold those 1 day SM training classes?
I must say nice cam setup!! In my opinion all motorcycle races should´ve a camera setup like this, imagine watch an isle of man lap with a Helmet camera like this one, or maybe a lap on a Motogp Machine. Thx Greg, your video just made me have more respect for your skill and courage.
Alessandro, Thank you for the way to kind comment!!! I have enjoyed being a part of this race for 15 years. Hope you have a great Christmas and New Year!
Curious - why did you guys stick with the Multistrada over the Hypermotard or even the Streetfighter, considering the road is now paved all the way up? I'd love to do this run on my R6 now!
Really, really amazing run :) ... Respect and compliments! May I ask you something more about the bike? What kind of preparations did you do on it? I'm really curious about suspensions tweaks, and motor as well :). Thank you very very much Greg!
Hey thanks for the post. I am honored! If you can make a ride across AFG I think I would be in. Keep up the solid work over there, be safe and look me up when you get back and all meet ya for a ride somewhere. You can always get a hold of me on, my life at speed thanks again, Greg
i drove a car up Pikes Peak a last year and was freaked out... HOLY SHIT YOU HAVE SOME BALLS! there was once or twice i thought you going off the side of the mountain... i have one word for this... AMAZING!
Greg, can you feel a noticeable change in the performance of the bike while climbing this much? And wich of Ducati models was this? Congratulations, great achievement!
Yes it is pretty classic how we try to make light of what we know we are getting ready to do. I have never risked as much as I did in this run, Possibly not as much as some might have and more than others! I feel very fortunate to have survived my 16 attempts at this race. Thanks for the post, I really appreciate all the people who have taken the time to watch my run up!
Thanks for sharing!!! WOW, Great ride!!! We just rode it last weekend on my FLHTCU. I'm pretty sure we didn't set any records....lol, but what amazing views going up and down :-) Wishing you the Best!!!!
At the start of the race I noticed you were balls out, full of speed confident and looked so fast. But at the last two min of the hill you could see that fatigue and second guessing was setting in, and I started getting worried thinking that you were getting a lil outta control. @ 9:08 coming out of that turn is when I think more so than anything. Great Run, had me on the edge of my seat the whole time!
Such a solid run! I'm hoping to break 11 minutes in the 450 class this year. This past year as a rookie I ran an 11:40 with a crash and finished with my bars pointing 25 degrees to the right. It was disappointing to finish knowing I didn't put down my best run, but I counted my blessing for even finishing after a crash, let alone in the top 10. Hope to see you there this year, either on a bike or in a car!
Anyone else watch the video tilting their head to the side with each turn? 😂. I don’t know how this man was able to cart his massive balls up to the top so fast..lots of respect for this dude, I could never do something like that..I’m way too chicken! 😂 Love the video! Amazing talent.
Wow.. I just drove up this today. This is absolutely insane! NO VIDEO DOES this justice! It's sooo high up! Are you not concerned about the yellow lines on the road?
Thanks for posting this. You guys were all great. Thanks for taking the time to edit and upload. Should be the MultiStrada & HyperStrada's domain. Where's DNA or the Corse gents when you need them ?
Wow what a ride mate! I was lucky enough to spectate Pikes Peak in '07 and every time I see footage like this I just can't wait to go back one day. I found even at Devil's Playground it was difficult to just walk around for extended periods without getting light headed and short of breath, and I know how much work it takes to manhandle a bike that hard, what kind of high altitude training do you do in order to keep sharp in the upper sections of the course?
R E S P E C T ! ! ! You've balls like a ram i think :) You and your Duc are faster than the most of all vehicles in the long live of this fantastic legendary hill race... Maybe the connection between Ducati and Audi is not so a bad thing... Your bike seems to have the heart and the power of the 80's Audi Quattro rally legends and you propably have a mental connection to Michele Mouton and Walter Röhrl... Greetings from Germany. I wish i could see this race live sometime in my life...
