Artist Gregg Deal has frequently pushed the boundaries of understanding towards Native
people through his work, particularly performance work. In the piece, "Teepugoobakwaetu
Modu (Animals That Roam The Earth)", Deal infuses Indigenous power and positivity with the
use of presence and body. The overall concept for this performance
piece is to work through stereotype and other preconceived notions of Indigenous people,
particularly in conjunction with cowboys. Working within the bounds of performance,
futurism and the parallel of the so-called cowboy and “Indian” narrative.
