Baked beans have a high nutritional value. You wanna try Colemans English mustard on steak, Sunday roast with Yorkshire pudding, fish and chips and mushy peas and curry sauce, also if you go out at night to the pub go and get a kebab. Also try marmite, Yorkshire tea made the British way and definately go and have a Indian curry you will love it.
@@louisbarnett9290 Jordan did try it in our “Americans Try British Slang” video! His reaction was super funny! Alaytra still needs to take a swing at it though 😬😬 We made a candy video too that you should check out!
The best time to eat any Greggs item is when they've been out of the oven 7-10 minutes. If they are eaten straight out of the oven they are like molten lava 🤣
I can't believe you didn't get the steak bake. It's pretty much the poster pasty. I've never been a fan of their sausage rolls, but the steak bakes are fantastic.
They were already out of so much when we went (which was really quite close to opening). The steak bake and cheese and onion were supreme losses to the trial!
@@AroundtheWorldandBeck Steak bakes are top notch as are the cheese & bacon wraps if you can get them fairly hot, although they are a bit more expensive then a lot of the pasties.
@@RyanCogar We will have to try and find those! We are thinking about doing a Greggs Christmas edition! We could loop in some of the items we missed out on!
The reason we like baked beans so much in the UK is because when we were kids, we were always told "beans beans are good for your heart, the more you eat the more you fart, the more you fart the better you feel, so let's have beans with every meal" 🤣🤣🤣
Hahaha! That’s so funny, I was told someone very similar (which now that I recall, is just wild!) “Beans beans the magical fruit, the more you eat, the more you toot, the more you toot, the better you feel, so eat your means with every meal” Yours might at least be factually accurate lmfao 🤣
The original vege bakes were lovely. They tasted like Heinz vegetable soup. The newer recipie with the creamy veg you mentioned weren't as nice imo. And the og vege pastys were bigger too. :-) Ive no idea why they changed/then stopped making them. Same as the meat and potato pastys. :-(
Greggs and sausage rolls in general, should be eaten when they are hot enough to burn your mouth. If you can hold them without wrapping them in the paper bag, then blast them in the microwave for a few seconds before eating. Greggs are also available frozen from Iceland frozen food store.
The Iceland thing we just learned about! That might be the way to get that lava-hot sensation! Fresh out your own oven!! Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment!
Greggs don't make these pastries in-store, they just cook from frozen. You can buy most of the Greggs range frozen from Iceland frozen food stores. They have been doing it for about 10 years or more. It's great as you can have a hot pastry whenever you feel like it, and it's cheaper than buying from Greggs. They make a great snack in the evenings when watching TV. :) I accept no blame for any weight that people put on following this advice! :)
I went to Durham City in the North-East of England just Saturday gone, do a bit of banking, thought to myself "Oh, I wants a sausage roll", So went to bank, then went to Greggs, stood in queue and a bloke in front bought 10 of the things, totally cleared the tray out, so when it was my turn, there was none ready... I was fuming... [Insert naughty 'C' word here!] :D lol EDIT: Oh, and yeah, I'm not big on cold sausage rolls, prefer them hot, they are indeed tastier!
It's great to see someone who genuinely hates baked beans. A real first. I honestly don't think I've ever met anyone in Britain who doesn't just calmly accept the culinary tyranny of baked beans. Brits are programmed by Heinz to love them from a very early age, you see.
When we buy different bakes from Greggs we get them to bag them up separately and write on each bag what they are so we don't get them mixed up. Your dog knew which was the best, he or she only got excited when you were eating the sausage roll ! lol The steak bake and cheese & onion are our favorites !
Excellent tip for next time!! I didn’t realize how similar they all looked until they were combined! It was so disappointing they didn’t have cheese and onion that day, we’ll have to make a trip back!
The first few were definitely the best, cooled down as we went along. Popped some in the microwave, and you’re right, way better warmed up! Maybe we’ll do a quick clip of us trying them in the store sometime 🤔🤔
Yes! Definately do a video on the Festive bake. It's the most anticipated item Greggs sell as its only around for about a month a year. I cannot wait to have my first one of the year! 😁
Greggs is actually a Baker's Shop and now expanding elsewhere. It is not uncommon to take a Sausage Roll home and eat it on a plate for lunch or with some Baked Beans.
The Iceland supermarket chain has a frozen selection of several Greggs products, including sausage rolls. Also, maybe a microwaving of the stuff in this video for 30-60 secs would have given you warm/hot versions? Personally, I usually eat sausage rolls, pasties, pork pies, steak pastry slices and scotch eggs all cold, but maybe that's just me :-) I always cook pies in the oven though.
Yes, we will have to pop in and grab some! And from we’ve seen in the comments, people seem to prefer Greggs piping hot!! So you might not be in the majority on this one haha Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment, we appreciate it!
Chicken and the Steak Bake are brilliant for a quick bite in the morning, with a coffee and a Yum Yum (even though I'm in my fifties). Plus you can pick up a sandwich or roll for your dinner (lunch) while you are there. I've also worked across the UK and they are reliably the same quality when you don't know the area.
@@martinbobfrank it was one in Huddersfield am not saying bad things about them I just got unlucky but will not go many places like Greggs as with a lot of them being overpriced
@@StevenCullen-sx1ui There's always better and cheaper places, but Greggs is a steady place. I've never been to Huddersfield, but I could of done on the way to Leeds or around there. I remember going to a KFC where I live, and it was terrible. I would never go to a KFC based of that one, but I've been to others where they were brilliant.
The Sausage and Bean Melt is my go to item. On the whole, Greggs is only nice fresh out of the oven. The trays they sell them from aren't heated. A while ago you had people moaning on social media that their sausage rolls and slices were lukewarm at best. Greggs reply was they say everything is freshly baked.
I went into a Greggs at lunchtime and asked for two cakes and four sausage rolls. The guy behind the counter used tongs to put them in a bag. I commented, "It’s nice to see you don’t handle the food here." He replied, "Nothing here is handled by hand, sir." "What if you need a pee?" I asked. “I use the tongs.”
I don't know what's gone wrong with the vegan sausage rolls. When they were introduced you probably couldn't tell in a blind test how they were different from meat ones but now they are lardy, usually cold and look under cooked. They've also abandoned the gorgeous vegan steak bakes for the bean melts that are good but have little in favour of them over the cheese melt.
You are in Britain! We love baked beans - when I was a child beans on toast was what we had for dinner every week. But you should try a real Cornish pasty. I live in the US these days and finding non-super-sweet baked beans is impossible - I have to make my own. I one can get pasties in the upper peninsula of Michigan but sausage rolls you have to make your own.
You can reheat these pastries. Preheat your oven to 150 degrees C and warm for about 10 minutes. If they come straight out of the fridge you may need to warm them for up to 20 minutes.
@@AroundtheWorldandBeck only use the microwave if you're in a hurry and you don't mind soggy pastry. Otherwise the oven is the only way to keep the pastry crisp. You may need to increase the time in the oven depending on your oven. Start with 10 minutes for reheating and go from there.
The word you were looking for was sauce. You use the word gravy where we use the word sauce, except for gravy which is brown with meat. The chicken will be in what we call a white sauce.
Greggs hot sausage rolls used to be a lot better in the 80's - 90's. The pastry was amazing and would be slightly greasy but not too much. The meat percentage was higher too. A sprinkling of salt and you had the perfect lunchtime snack.
We’ve heard that a lot from people, that it used to be better years and years ago. Maybe Greggs will bring back their retro recipes! Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment, it really helps the channel out!
Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment! We had a lot of fun making this one, Greggs has been talked about so much, we were really excited to try it!
I'm live in the UK and I think Greggs is pretty good but I also think it is over rated. U.S. viewers need to understand that there are many other very similar and cheaper alternatives in the UK.
Greggs sausage rolls are really great hot straight out of the oven. Both the Chicken bake and steak bake are one of my favourites also again hot out of the oven. They also have frozen varieties of them which you can bake yourself but I can't comment on those as I haven't tried them myself yet. Towards Christmas Greggs usually bring out a festive bake with chicken and sage and onion stuffing in them which are definitely worth trying out if you are in the UK then.
As if you went to my local greggs lol. Mildenhall on RU-vid haha. Greggs sausage roll ftw btw Edit: have greggs changed their sausage rolls? They used to look more filled out and not just a round sausage in pastry. Been a while since I had one
I am a Brit and i am really not a fan of Gregg's but so many brits are. It does annoy me that one company has basically single handedly virtually destroyed the independent High Street bakers in this country.
I like a sausage roll when I'm visiting the U.K. Some brits are amazed that we don't have sausage rolls here in Mississippi. That's true, but then they don't have grits or sausage gravy and biscuits so we're even.
Most if not all can be eaten cold , the reason for the price is that Greggs had to go to court to prove that their stores didn't make the goods on the premises but just warmed them up from being delivered frozen , they heated them up so they could be eaten after they cooled down but it was the public demand that they have them asap hence they were still warm when bought . They won so no vat was applied 😂
So it was still pretty warm when we were diving in, but comments on this video made sure we ate it warmed up when we filmed our Christmas Greggs Menu video!
Can't believe they were out of steak bakes and the cheese and onion when we went to pick it up. Missing out on some classics. We will have to make sure we go back!
Greg's is t's by no means the finest food, but for something on the go, it's cracking stuff. Much better than a burger or fried chicken. Once you've sampled one of these bad boys, they're like Pringles...Once you pop, you can't stop. I can't believe you didn't try the 'Cheese and Onion slice' - by a mile the best!
@@valeriedavidson2785 You're talking about a damned cookie. A biscuit is what you eat with your breakfast. You're also right about our gravy. We have sausage or tomato gravy with our breakfast here in the south. Goes over our biscuits and our eggs. Better than some damned beans. Since alot of us hunt, we also have deer sausage instead of pork sausage. Better than anything you'll buy in some grocery store.
@@garyyork1942 You obviously do not know anything about our food. I do not have beans for breakfast. The beans we have here are nothing like the beans you eat in the U.S.
I love Greggs sausage rolls but I couldn't eat more than a dozen at a time 🤣 (just kidding.) There's a good reason their sausage rolls are known about around the world. Their sausage meat is ground more than many other mass produced sausage rolls, so you don't get any of those 'hard bits' in them which are inedible in many other brands. Food for the Gods. 🙋♂
Greggs is way more than the pastry section,it's sandwiches and baguettes are great,it's hot sandwiches are too, then there's the Mexican oval bites, chicken dippers and sauces and the soups in winter are fab...
I had a friend come up from Bristol who heard about the legendary pies of Lancashire. Holland's and Greenhalgh's. Greenhalgh's are a local chain of take away bakeries similar to Greggs but a little more expensive and much nicer (in my opinion). My friend returned happy and heavier having bought 10 pies on the first outing alone! You should do a tour of pie/pasty shops across Britain. Lancashire pie and gravy is the best but I also recommend Scottish Bridies (they're usually served with baked beans!) You won't be disappointed!
.... and, for your information, Wigan is said to be the pie capital of the world! Even though I'm from near Blackburn with it's own amazing pie/pastie gods I admit Wigan trumps all 🤣 Have a lovely day x Kia
Haha, trying to give it the benefit of the doubt I guess. Not being dramatic, but you might be the first British person who we have heard openly admit they don't like beans! Must be rough, they are in everything here! Lol Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment, it means a lot!
@@AroundtheWorldandBeck Haha no worries, Enjoying the content. Looking forward to see if you try the Festive Bakes that Greggs sell every Christmas. Turkey, stuffing and Cranberry sauce, absolutely delicious.
In UK covid lockdown I quickly got addiced to junk food eating lots of Greggs ,cheese sweets and deserts and drinking more combined with no exercise I gained a fanominal amount of weight 90lbs in 7 months. And had a massively increased waist line to prove it
I can't have beans touching any other food. It's got to be on its own or on toast. Then again, I've got aspergers and I'm like Sheldon from the Big Bang Theory lol
We had every intention on coming home with one and they were fresh out. We got there so early too just so that wouldn't happen! Guess that shows how popular it really is! Same thing with the cheese and onion!
