Imagine all the other monks having to eat peas and peas only for 10+ years because he used all of monastery gardens to grow peas. So the monks were essentially living on peas ...

Your videos especially are so... welcoming? There's lots of science channels out there but I love Nature League because everything's communicated in such a positive way! It's been really great for my confidence and re-connecting with my love of science. I'm a high school drop out in my early 20's and I've been trying really hard these last couple years to get well, but even then, I used to think I was too stupid to achieve much. But I applied to an entry program at university and today I got an offer!! I'm so excited to study everything I missed out on :D Thanks Brit&Team

Just a few comments from an Austrian: the stress in Mendel is on the first e, not on the second. So it's Méndel, not Mendél. Secondly, if you fail a course in Austria you get a 5, not an F. I'm not sure if that was also the case in Mendels time, but as the Czech Republic was then part of the Austrian empire, I would guess so. Love the video! Keep up the good work.

i gather photo was taken without franklin noticing, if franklin more hidden/lock up photo for herself, she would have discovered/understood it + if females are more equal at the time

Wow, I'm early. I already had my first year biology a couple of years ago, and this video does a good job summarizing everything. Plus, I never knew much about his origins before this video, so I still learned something. Also, the guy who plays Mendel is adorable. Just sayin'.

I wish our first lecture in genetics in uni started like that... I hated genetics for many years until I finally found and got a proper book with good diagrams and saw some good vids on youtube (khan academy)

You've gotten a lot better since your first Sci Show appearance. You flow through this lecture quickly yet smoothly. Maybe it's just the comfy looking blanket? Either way, I dig the longer lecture format. More such as this would not be a bad thing. Of course, I'm probably not the target audience. :)

sorry, i had to do the first thing. here are my comments as i watch the episode. i dunno how it is in the states, but where i grew up, mendel was taught from fourth grade and on. sometimes i am amazed that he is not common knowledge here. yay, the brit sisters! i bet they all got into tons of trouble. (i am writing fan fiction of it in my head right now) (ok, i am not) the eyebrow movement thing was hilarious. very millhouse-y wait, euro trip? isnt an euro trip when you live in europe just going down the road to the grocery store? monking around is similar to monkey-ing around, but it requires more chanting. that rosary (not a rosary) is kinda cool. how did you guys made it? this is bringing me back to fourth grade. we did an experiment like that in high school biology. the set today is super cute.... oh snap, i need a pin!

I just want you to correct a small thing. Gregor mendel was the father of Genetics(CLASSICAL) BATESON was the father of MODERN genetics.. But, the video was great overall👏👏👏👏

You guys also missed out on how Mendel tried to do his experiments with another plant (hawkweed or smth I know it had -weed at the end) on the advice of another scientist, but the observations didn't hold because that other plant is asexual and so the math fell apart and Mendel lost confidence. Kinda sad.
