ur an inspiration....u should act in hollywood! they should attempt to give u a bigger role in tvb--maybe even a lead role-i mean...u could play something that resembles your life....like an actor trying to break through stereotypes
Mr. Rivers, believe it or not you are one of my favourite actors. Please don't give up on acting. You have become an icon in the HK entertainment industry, keep up the good work man, we have always considered you one of us.
Cool. Unbelievable. You studied medicine degree in Sydney but you migrate to Hong Kong. The opposite. Many Hong Kong students study in Australia and they want to migrate to Australia. What a big different. You never give up for your acting career. Really appreciate you.
I agree that a lot of roles that Gregory was put into were very stereotypical, but looking at it from another point of view it was what made him so memorable. When I was younger I never knew his name, he was the gwai lo actor. But I have never and probably will never forget Gregory Rivers whom I grew up watching.
OMG I never knew you are an Aussie!! I have watched yon on tv since i was a young!!!! WE are proud to have you on HK TV!!!! It is strange not seeing you anymore!
Ditto, Gregory, you are the best. Pearl S Buck a daughter of missionary spoke several Chinese languages. You are great. Keep the movies coming. Get Outta Here is very enjoyable, unique, and my favourite. I am watching it many time over. Well done, you are truly an achiever!
I FOUND you, finally. You are in so many series I love, but so briefly that your name is seldom on the cast list. Just the long process of searching for your name made me think, "Oh, how under appreciated he is!" It's so great to see these comments that share our love for you. Out of all the non-asian actors cast in TVB series, you are the most natural. To say your Cantonese is the very best doesn't even begin to describe it! I hope you will further the success you deserve.
wowz...this shows more of an insight to me since i'm an Andy Lau fan. You did do a video with him once about heros. i dont know if you remember. =-D....
I am Chinese but raised in Canada and your Cantonese is far better than mine! Your ping yum is still a little off but your vocabulary and command of the language is much more comprehensive than many actual Chinese raised abroad. Good luck in your future endeavors! You may be stereotyped but that is because you occupy a very unique niche and have a very rare and valuable talent when Cantonese is beginning to become marginalized in comparison to Mandarin in the world.
you people are too kind! I've been away from TVB for 4 years, and I appreciate that you all still miss me :-) I am working on something new though. hopefully, I'll be able to say something more very very soon. I hope that people like what I've done. btw, 我會看中文。如果你們想寫中文,隨便。 :-)
HoKwokWing I remember you back in early 80's when I was living in HK 30 years ago, I thought you are from England? But since I started to watching you on RU-vid and knowing you actually from Australia, Anyway, I am so proud of you can speak perfect Cantonese 👍👍❤❤, I am Chinese and I am in USA been gone from HK over 30 years now, I do miss HK with lot of things expecially all kinds of real chinese foods...👍👍👍❤❤❤🙌🙌🙌😋😋😋, I have hard time to write Chinese on here so I just write English is more easy to type, I do rewatch your vedio shows often on RU-vid, I like the way to talked and thinking about how to live the right way...I like your personality and I wish you will be more successful either on your acting or singing... You can sing very well too beside you acting...Best wishes to you and your family! 敏 Deb 🤗🤗🤗
Hey I watched you growing up and I was born in Canada I loved you :) When ever I saw you i was like OMG! Good luck! Oh and you speak better Cantonese then me mandarin too (mandarins such a hard language to learn).
I think, being exposed to Chinese movies and seeing you, at a very young age, is what stemmed my preference for Caucasian men. I remember admiring you, and it's definitely because you stood out. You are extremely handsome, and your Cantonese is better than mine!
Just saw Captain Matthews in Triumph in the Skies then thought of you. Took me a while to find your actual name online. I just remembered you as John. Hope you are well and a vlog about what you've been up would be nice. I don't see you in many drama series anymore.
@SNK038 you are correct. my tones (音調) are sometimes a little off. I wish my tones were perfect but Cantonese is a very difficult language to master :-)
I MISS YOU SO MUCH GREGORY! 我自細便睇你的劇集,you are natural, you are talented, how r you now? it's 2011, i miss you, i know you wouldn't go back to TVB, but please get us updated of how u are, you are always the best 鬼佬 actor of all time hahaha
hi greg, do u remember me? we shared a flat at 82 buckingham st redfern in 1983. we were doing 1st yr medicine in unsw. i can still visualize the day when u moved in, ur mom came along as well. we couldnt afford a better place then, and i vividly remember when it was ur turn to do the dishes u boiled up a whole kettle of water cuz there was NO HOT WATER... sigh... those were the days.
I remember living in a very narrow flat in Redfern for a few nights although probably in 1986 after I stopped studying medicine. There were mirrors on one wall to help make the flat look bigger. I lived/slept on the upper floor, but it was only temporary. For most of the 1st year of medicine, I lived in North Sydney in a posh area called Saint Ives at my parents' friend's home. I moved into International House in 1984. But my Mum never accompanied me to any of the places I lived in. But in case I'm wrong... do you have any photos?
喬寶寶 Q Bobo has done a lot for the image of the local Indian population. He's talented, funny, extremely intelligent and a very nice guy to boot. People like him, a lot. Attitudes are changing, slowly.
Hey Gregory how are you? I was your body guard in the movie you starred in, in Mission Hills Haikou... great body of work... you're an inspiration I actually got a speaking part in a TV show.... wishing you well say hello sometime
Hello, Gregory. I want to tell you that I will be using your video clip in my paper arguing about American stereotypes on Asian Americans in films and Asians having similar stereotypes with Americans in films. Thank you!
@kaekeong I'm ok :-) Working on the album. Bit by bit, we'll get there. With any luck, it'll be available by the end of the year. I'm not sure about availability in Malaysia, but it will be available in both digital and physical form from my web site. My site is being redesigned. It's almost ready to be opened up again to the public. Stay well.
I am Chinese from Hong Kong, I am living in CA, USA for over 30 years now, I am very enjoy to watching Gregory Rivers speaking perfact Cantonese on the RU-vid every day, how can I become his friend on FB. I can't not type Chinese on my keyboard just English hopefully I will get respond from you!👍👍👍🤔🤔😋
Hi Gregory I have mentioned you in my recent blog (but couldn't post it here for some reason). I would like you to take a look to make sure my description is correct. I will send you the link via email if you can take a look. The blog is about non-Chinese actors in Hong Kong and cultural diversity on Hong Kong screens. Love your work by the way :) Cheers Haven
@JonnyNice A Taiwanese actor once laughed as he told me it was the first time he had heard a Caucasian speaking Mandarin with a Cantonese accent!!! LOL!
