From Gregory himself: “Before the Sun” was going to be the first song. I think I wrote parts of “Before the Sun” when I was twenty-two, just as something for me. I’ve always played the banjo, but I’m not a trained banjo player or anything, and it’s something I felt a little bit shy about for a long time. But the song reminds me of working outside, and being outside, and I would play it on breaks from working. I felt like I needed to honor that song and find a home for it.

You always want to go back to when you first discovered your favorite music so you can experience it for the first time again. He’s one of those rare artists whose entire catalogue i’ll listen to for the rest of my life. It’s such a rare treat hearing one of his songs for the first time, because I know it’ll be something I listen to forever.

The allure of "Before the Sun" by Gregory Alan Isakov is undeniable. Listening to it feels like being on a solitary road trip, surrounded by the majesty of nature and the quiet hum of one's thoughts. The radio's a crackling fire line puts me back in the shoes I wore 20 years ago as a young man grinding me teeth unoticed. Sleeping in our winter coats sometimes just to tired or broke to find a bed and waking up to the heat of the sun glittering through leaves here in Pennsylvania where I now call home. Fast-forward 20 years later and I'm spending the money I earned to see Gregory with my wife at Asbury Hall in Buffalo NY and next week at a brewery in Charlston SC. Hard work always pays off if you believe in yourself. We arent for everyone, but you are perfect for someone. Finding them is the hard part, unless you reach out to everyone
