It was SUCH smart batting. They had watched every other batsman get too greedy or play off the line of the ball. So they just took singles and two's and ONLY went for boundaries on free hits or when was actually needed. Brilliant batting. T20 might mostly be "smash bang wallop" but Green and Gregory proved that if you just play smart, you can still get those great partnerships. I think it says a lot that the partnership was 130+ yet they only had around 1 minute of highlights. Bcs they didnt go big, or smash it out the park, they just batted well, ran the runs and kept switching strike. They went big when it was needed but mostly just played a 1-Day innings and didnt go too hard. Absolutely loved it.
Why Gregory played just handful of matches for England, he has such calm and composed head, every time I watched him play be in the blast, BBL, PSL or the ODI series vs Pak when COVID hit the main English team, he always played well but not getting his due in limited overs cricket
Think it’s a mixture of injuries and not playing for a “sexy” county. It’s been hard for Lewis with his back for a long period of time, and the ECB doesn’t like picking players from outside of test match stadiums unless their dad plays golf with Rob Key
Think they completed the run before the catch was taken…so that means if someone is on 99 and they loft the ball and complete a single before getting caught..they’ll reach a 100 !
19.2 was a no ball. So 19.3 (the final ball) was a free hit, meaning he couldnt be out via catch or bowled only run out. So he ran the single and wasnt out.
What a heist pulled off by Somerset in the end. The skipper led from the front in both the innings and got much needed assistance from Green while batting. The Notts will be gutted losing this encounter from a position of dominance. Meanwhile, Somerset looks like an immovable object. Who might prove to be the unstoppable force in this tournament against them?
Says a lot that Green and Gregory had 100 run partnership yet only 30 seconds of highlights. Bcs they never went big, just kept themselves in the game by running singles and two's. Batted smart not hard. Brilliant partnership and proved that matches arent just won by smash-bang-wallop batting, but can be manipulated by using your head.
not really. Somerset have a better percentage record in the last 3 years setting that chasing. At Taunton its such a high scoring ground that par score is around 200-210. All year Somerset had batted first and set 150s then defended it with the bowling attack. So actually, getting them to bowl first, and trying to set a 190-210 total and put them under pressure was a good choice. Taunton makes belting batting wickets and is a tiny ground so its runs galore. Yet no matter how easy you can score there setting 210 always puts the other side under HUGE pressure, so really Notts had the right idea. Yeah its a bit easier to bat when the dew is settling at dusk and the outfield gets EVEN quicker, but blowing them away with a first innings massive total was the right idea. Smeed, Banton, TKC and Abell REALLY understand the Taunton wickets and wouldnt have struggled so much with that wicket if they were setting a score. So I think Notts did the right thing, Somerset are just the better side.
