Probably the greatest live recording of this murderous aria and cabaletta in the last 50 years. Even more impressive when you consider the wide range of roles he sings and the fact that he is no youngster anymore. I have yet to come up with an answer as to why he has not achieved nearly the fame that he seems to deserve, especially singing in this tenor-famished era.
Not sure if you guys gives a damn but if you guys are bored like me atm you can watch pretty much all of the new movies on InstaFlixxer. Been streaming with my brother these days =)
Admirable job in one of the most absolute arias in the repertoire....well done. FYI, watch after he’s finished...he’s exhausted...it’s a terrifying aria for the most macho tenors....
Javier López Simarro i am very like Placido you can see that by my nickname. Domingo better like artist but like a vocalist Kunde better. And he has more power, i think in 3 times bigger then Domingo. Kunde loudest tenor what i ever heard maybe louder then Del Monaco i don t know.
Domingo no, hes a pure lyrical tenor like Pavarotti, he sound powerfull, because he strangle the middle tones, and the high notes are a little bit in false
Okay. . Greg. . . On behalf of TENORS everywhere . . . quit setting the bar so high! Crack a few times. . . . live a little. . . . make it easier on the rest of us. . PLEASE. . . you have my admiration . . . and often have caused me to covet!
Check out the recording of the cabaletta by Jerome LoMonaco on RU-vid for a comparison. I can't be positive but I think Greg was in Jerry's studio while he was attending Illinois State University in the 1970s.
The sound is irregular in the range, since G to up is in another different place and sound behind, in the score is not writing "scream and die in this notes". I regret being so hard but I love Rossini and William Tell and this interpretation does not make me enjoy this beautiful Aria. Any tenor known more than 30 years back, sang more homogeneous and something like that would have been absolutely inconceivable. The technique of lyrical singing in these days is in a downfall and the public applauds anyone who is simply able to give the notes. However, Kunde has given us wonderful interpretations.
@@Blacksheepinblack I agree with your last sentence. I have written this as a person who loves the Opera, I have listened to the best singers of all times since there are recordings, Gregory Kunde was wonderful, you are bothered by my comment, it bothers me not being able to go to the Opera, thing which I love, because singers are very bad. I see and hear what I have written before as clear as you read this. Think that a famous artist is exposed to criticism and knows it, therefore this does not hurt anyone. It should not attack me directly, I write this as an opera lover and if I pay a ticket I hope to at least hear what is written in the score just like in a piano, violin, orchestra concert, ...
