Do I see a Johnson semi-automatic rifle in a movie of 1955? The Johnson rifle was a short recoil automatic rifle only ordered for the KNIL (Dutch colonial army) to be used in the Dutch East Indies (Indonesia) and Surinam. But most of the ordered rifles could not be delivered because of the Japanese occupation of the Dutch East Indies and ended in the hands of US Marines in Guadalcanal. It is interesting to see this rifle still in use with the Dutch Marines in 1955 beside the M1 Garand and M1 Carbine....
