As someone who has survived an abusive relationship, I can tell you that "going along" with your stalker won't do any good. At some point in time, there will always be some conflict, and any disagreement will be seen as disobedience and deserving of punishment. "Going along" never saved anyone being abused or "punished" in an abusive relationship.
I was thinking the same thing. My mother was abusive so I am also familiar with situation. It's extremely unhealthy to tell people to "just go along with, it's for your own good"
My sister has an abusive dad who, when she was younger would hit her with his knees in her face. After he did that she would have her teeth hit back into the gums of her mouth and there was blood and pus coming out of her gums. He would also hit her and stuff, but she would still say "no I ran into a door", "I just fell" and stuff like that. One time she burned herself with a iron and then told people that my mom hit her with a belt! Even after going to court my sister still chose to live with her dad. And now she regrets that decision. So I kinda know what you've gone through not by personal issues tho. And I want you to know that we are here for you! 😊
That happens rn with my friend, and I can't do anything, she don't wanna tell anything about the guy beacuse she is too shy... I'm really afraid she is going to get hurt, but I can't do anything, and we are living in hungary, and there is weekly 1 case of death fron relationships. We try to controll this thing, but it's hard. I feel like we can solve it slowly, things getting better now, but there was like 3 laws that guy was break...
@@lexxchantel6199 Did you even watch or listen to the video at all ..? There are plenty of evidence that can be used against Greta. All the stalking, taking numerous pictures of her friend, stealing her phone, locking her up with a tiny bit of physical abuse, forcing, drugging her. Then the dead girl in the basement, then the guy who got drugged and then shot for figuring her out. What else do you need to know to realize that it's not just a "He said" "She said". ^.^
Do you live in Manhattan though? Laws about stalking are different in different states. Sometimes if they don't do anything physical to you they can get away with it. And like they said in the movie even if she did do something it could take months to actually get processed at the station.
this movie disturbed me so much, it doesn’t have screamers, gore or blood, ghosts... it’s just so psychologically hard and rly portrays how scary stalking and emotional abuse is...
Yeah, I love the thrills, cinematography, and acting. It never bored me, but unfortunately the script was pretty devoid of logic at times and used a few cliche tropes. But it's a decent film, I was entertained by it and found it compelling enough
Yup just keep bashing her head until there's no sign of life...end of movie....but the movie would be over in like 2 minutes...I find the bag...take the money...throw the bag away lol but that's just me
I honestly feel like this movie gives a good representation of the tenderness someone has after losing a parent. When Frances had first told Greta about losing her mother they bonded about that, thus explaining her reluctance to have Erika bash her head in. I feel like this was a very believable and realistic movie that seems like it could have been on an “I survived” type story rather than a far fetched thriller.
@@Is.Freya.M Yeah I'm very interested in where the plots going. But also the cinematography looks amazing, so I wanna see it on the biggest, loudest screen I can find.
eatdarich for people who're spoiling the ending for themselves sure, but i'm guessing from when i made the comment that a good 75% of the video is what happens in the movie and from what i remember of the actual film the ending is extremely clear and doesn't warrant an explanation at all but bear in mind i watched the vid 10 months ago so take this with a grain of salt
You know New York is actually a pretty safe place but I still think that it’s a pretty good rule of thumb to mind your own business when it comes to things that don’t really affect you. You’re walking home at night and you hear a weird sound in a dark alley maybe don’t worry about it.
Fun fact; I think the box is actually a Tulipános Láda, aka "tulip chest" which held an important part in the former times of hungarian folks. In those times clothing was a luxury and people often had only one nice outfit for the rest of their lives. The girls from childhood started to sew and collect clothing pieces in preparation for her wedding and stored them in the tulip chests. So basicly all she had (wealth) was stored in the chest. Nowadays its just a heredity and lost its function. I think its a nice little touch, having Greta holding onto a chest which was meant for her daughter
They literally say "if you see something, say something " every 5 minutes on the subway Not " if you see something, take it upon yourself to find the owner "
greta says she can't work her phone, which is an old ass nokia phone. when she starts blowing up frances phone, it's all imessages, nobody caught that? also this dude says "stephanie" like 7 times and the chicks name was "samantha". the movie was good but there are things that don't make sense.
There is a girl in the movie called Stephanie. I don’t remember if she was a victim or a victim-to-be but I think she was a victim, possibly still held captive in Greta’s home. Her name is definitely in one of the handbags though, hence why her name would be in his script. Maybe he confused the names or maybe you got confused while listening?
@@j.d6009 Uhhhhh, you can't 100% garuntee safety and a long life but where I come from I was educated to report things like a bag being left alone in a train because it doesn't only risk me it risks everyone.
No one is talking about the stupid private investigator. He hears knocks coming from behind the piano suspecting she might be in there, so what does he do? Instead of detaining Greta first, he pulls back the piano back not expecting any reaction from someone who he suspects had something to do with the disappearance. There were too many scenes with this level of stupidity. And I also haven’t seen anyone talk about the fact that they lock the box with and object that clearly will slip out.
The dream that frances had when she was locked in the box is a very nice touch. I mean I've experienced it before. Idk you seems to start dreaming that it's just a bad dream then you wake up realizing it's not.
I must admit i found that film sooo boring and slow. I found the book really interesting and was looking forward to the film but omg that film was a chore to sit through.
@@slik1977 I admit I watched it in fast forward and since I'm an avid reader I may have to check out the book. Books are usually far better than movies made of them.
Frances does go to the lost and found after finding the bag on the subway but it’s closed. She also mentions that Erica’s dad bought her the apartment...she also has trustifarian written all over her.
This movie makes me really annoyed, because there’s so many moments in this movie where Francis could’ve got the upper hand/escape. Greta is an *old woman.* when she opened that case Francis was trapped in, why tf didnt she just deck her & run out? honestly
michael cox especially ending bro that dumb paris toy ain’t finna keep her locked in she gonna break right out , literally the whole movie ole girl was making dumb plays agaist the lady when she let her go and all
I almost guarantee if you were drugged beat going through shock, stabbed, bleeding out or/and disoriented like most horror movie Charecters u would make the best decisions either
I watch this movie once a week tbh, it’s awesome. But I do 100% agree that they could have done something more twisted instead of the more dry reused stalker story. Still a well shot and super suspenseful film, just a bit of missed potential. Also, Erika is like the best friend anyone could ask for. My favourite character of the movie and a really good comedic relief from all the suspense.
Actually, this was a pretty good movie. I just didn't like the ending - a failed denouement or worse ... an opening for a sequel that deserves to get made as much as Titanic II .
The ending implied that Greta ended up stuck inside the piano forever. I think this added to the mystery of what happened to Greta, and left off to give the audience some imagination. I think the ending in my opinion is pretty good which at least the protagonist is safe.
I was literally watching old ending explained videos to get my fix and this get uploaded! Never clicked so fast. Could you do an ending explained on The Descent?
@@christopherlowery3797 True. But it's also a good mention that one of these comments is mocking an on going narrative, while the other has to do with the stupid protagonists and their triumph over a crazy, middle aged woman.
I would love to see a film where a killer lures a victim who also turns out to be a killer, and it is a back and fourth of them trying to trick eachother into a false sense of security.
I know its just something that most characters in horror movies do but why didn't the girl hit the woman in the head a couple of times to make sure the woman stayed knocked out? The victim always only hits the villain once and thinks that's enough to keep them down. Why? Just... Why?
I liked it very much too! I’ve watched it twice in the cinema and I also intend to watch it again! I love this sort of movie that has a stalker as the main theme!
The movie had so many cringey scenes. I want my money back and definitely don’t recommend paying money to see it in the theaters. They had so many opportunities to make this movie more interesting. “Her daring escape” attempt was ridiculous 🤦🏻♀️.
From what I saw in cinemas, there was Stephanie in a body bag when Erica went down to the basement and there were strange symbols on her face and body. Greta also poured some powder on the dead private investigator's face after he was in the basement in a body bag also, so I wonder what that powder was...? I’m not kidding these are the things I want answered ahahah also great video!
K Weaver Find something better to do than criticizing strangers on the internet, jackoff. You could work 5 1/2 days a week (as I do) and still finish all of these over a weekend, if you wanted to.
The film is set in New York, but was actually filmed in Ireland. However, the subway station scenes where the trains enter the station were filmed in Toronto. Greta's last name, "Hideg", is the Hungarian word for "cold". The distribution rights for the film were bought at the Toronto International Film Festival by Focus Features for $6 million. The original title of the film was "The Widow". The restaurant scenes were shot over the space of a week. By the end of the week, the smell of fish on set was so bad, it made people need to leave early. This is Isabelle Huppert's second time playing a piano teacher in a psychological thriller, having also played one in the thriller The Piano Teacher (2001). Chloe Grace Moretz and Maika Monroe previously worked together on the YA film The 5th Wave (2016). Dominique Franceschi's debut.
There's a pretty similar movie to this called "the butterfly room." It's very gory and very well done, if you liked Greta then you'll probably like "the butterfly room."
I believe that Greta has Munchausen by proxy syndrome. It's a disease in women- particularly mothers- which drives them to an extreme degree for sympathy from others by abusing and effectively sickening their children. Although this could be a very obscure case since she doesn't fit all the qualifications, it's a plausible theory. You can see cases of it in things such as -IT with Mrs. Kasbrak (Eddie's mom) -the Gypsy Rose Blanchard case -the Sixth Sense
RMcreeps Dude this is fucking insane. I literally just learned about this an hour ago after watching HLN Forensic Files. And now I see it here. That’s crazy
The way he said “construction” at the banging behind the piano part sounded like how Yoda would say it. Also I miss Frank the puppet if you see this can we get a wellness check for Frank?
