I can relate to a drummer who buys and designs his own kit. It's especially cool when the drummer could easily be sponsored and play whatever high end overkill gear the company might drop in his lap. The fact Mr. Wagner gets his gear from reverb and Craig's list raises his cool status to the ultimate high!
Come on Premiere!!! We need new Jake and Sam rundown for their Starcatcher tour!! They’ve got quite the upgrades since your previous rundown of them!!! Come on!!!
I like that he sticks with drum heads for a long time. Blows my mind how often some other big name touring drummers will swap snare heads like every show and tom heads every other show, so wasteful!
Not changing drum heads it's gonna be the new trend. I'm here for it. Especially with the absurd price of heads and sticks and basically all drum gear these days.
I’m happy rock gets stadiums still. I can’t knock u. I love my vistalite snare. I have a 20” vistalite floor tom. It’s so hard to find 20” triple flanged hoops.
Danny is now one of my top favourite drummer that I idolise when I play, such an inspiration and experimental drummer with such a definitive sound. I can’t wait to see him in the flesh when he comes to Australia in August!
Atlas hardware that Ludwig makes is unappreciated and they’re awesome. Ludwig did up the hardware game they were lagging on. Btw please give me some hardware Ludwig. I’ll do whatever you want. I will need another speed king and hihat stand.
I just added another 24"x14 to my kit....and just bought 2 speed flyers. The speed kings and the old camco's are kind of light. Saw you with my son back in 2018 in Phoenix. It was great! Try some danmar beaters.
Alot of touring drummers are using these kits for just cutting through live performance and they just look amazing under the lights as well so win win love this series, rock on brother 🤘🦖
Love this! Saw them that night in Louisville. They are fkn amazing live. So much talent. The knowledge Danny has gained & the excitement he has about his craft is so much fun to hear & watch. Everything has a purpose & has been thought about in detail, but it's apparent he's having fun with it all. Seeing him evolve, trying new things, experimenting... just the creativity of the entire band is a gift. He mentioned a new album, damn that's exciting! Thanks so much for the interview.
This is pretty sick Love how he doesn’t switch head’s each time. Love the constant wind chimes while you chat And love that he gives me humble and very chill vibes Danny is #invitedToTheBBQ @punkrockmba
Sick! this video sounds great BTW and I gotta say agree 100% with the drum heads having a break in period that they sound best after, PS. clutch mention with that Cowbell!!
thank you! just decided to go with a zoom in the room and trust my own eq-ing, lol. I just recently changed a snare head before going into the studio, and PUT THE OLD HEAD BACK ON because the new one sounded worse, and I couldn't get it to the sweet spot. Not sure when that head is supposed to come off now tho! and thank you, if GVF has a cowbell phase, we all know where it began...
I've owned drums made various woods, carbon fiber, fiberglass aluminum and acrylic. My 18x18 RCI starlight acrylic floor tom was easily the best sounding of any kind. It's focus was like a 16", but it's power was almost like a gong drum. Modern vistalites have a better bearing edge and construction than my old 76's did. They sound fatter and cleaner. IIRC, Ludwig vistalites are made by RCI starlight USA.
I love how down to earth he is even when it comes to gear. Sometimes I see guys who change heads every day for the tour, And I think there is no way that head is shot already. I mean some guys hit really hard but you don't have to do it that hard lol
I'm def with Danny on this one! Check out the last Rundown with Matt Halpern, he talks pretty extensively on how and why to hit drums and cymbals correctly to bring the optimum tone!
@@drumrundown yea ive watches that one too. (I wouldn't miss any of these. I love watching rundowns) I studied jazz a lot in college and I'm not as into it these days but it did teach me how to play strong without beating the heck out of cymbals and drums. I play some heavier stuff now a days but still use thin cymbals and 7As and haven't broken heads or cymbals.
I'm on 7A longs! I guess I'm doing something halfway ight because I rarely ever break a stick and still hit pretty hard! haha Thanks for watching these Rundowns! Very honored to get to bring them to you all. ⚡️🤘⚡️
@@drumrundown oh man! I love the ProMark Long's with the rebound is nice as well. Vic Firth started the Freestyle sticks and they are sickly longer. Have you ever played the Alex Van Halen Sticks from Regal tip. Can't get them anymore. But I got a few pairs awhile back. They are insanely long and I actually really love how long they are.
U used my line! "I'll try anything twice. You never know after just once. U might of just had a bad experience, so try again to make sure. You might be suprised". I've used that line for years lol.
Modern drum heads last a really long time if you hit them musically. The downside to that is sometimes you don't realize how much is lost until you put a fresh one on because they kind of wear beyond sounding great before they actually wear out.
He’s a drum collector / nerd like many of us. I love that he buys his stuff off Reverb!!! What I don’t understand is how come he’s not getting free Ludwig drums??? He’s not endorsed???
I'm happy to see another drummer that rocks a 15 18 19 22 with a rock kit! Most drummers these days use large thin cymbals with large drums but I still prefer the pitch of an 18" as a main crash.
Definitely have had quite a few drummers in Rundowns champion smaller cymbals on stage to help with dynamics and wash, mostly trying to stay out of vocal mics without having to use shields, lol!
I owned a 73-74 Clear Vistalite set sounded huge and loud. Unfortunately had financial trouble and had to feed the family. It’s all good now and still playing Ludwig and Paiste
Literally what Bill Zicko intended when he applied for the patent for the 1st acrylic drums. He wanted the drummer to be more visible. (Think… Wonder Woman’s jet.)
Always loved this band! I wish they would mention the obvious Zeppelin/Bonham influence! No shame on showing love to what has inspired us the most. Great rundown!
You guys gotta get Lucy Ritter on here!! She's an incredible drummer and plays with one of the biggest acts in the world right now! (Chappell Roan) It's crazy she doesn't have more interviews out there.
Who, historically played a Ludwig Vistalite 14" 16" 18" 24" kit? And played HEAVY, to music with heavy riffs and a yowling singer? And nobody ever noticed the bass player? That kit is just what you'd expect for a band who sound like Greta Van Fleet.
Greta is a band with wonderful talents, but too much Led Zep influences clearly . . . that being said, the members of the band are solid players . . . would love to see them move on to less Zep clone music.
@ywas123 Well it's not really a rip-off anymore. Tons of drummers nowadays play these sizes and vistalites and Paiste cymbals. But with GVF its like always a rip-off thing with Zeppelin. I mean good for them to finally find their own style but for some time it was just too obvious.
Yeah it’s not an exact rip off, I agree. I think these guys are just particular copy cats of zeppelins music, so for the drummer to use a version of the bonham kit just doesn’t sit right. I’d actually be ok with it if he acknowledged the similarity but he doesn’t lol
@@ywas123 Atleast he's acknowledging Alex Van Halen who in return is a student of Bonhams playing. But yeah it would be right if he just admits the influence of Bonhams presence on his playing. Even Michael Miley of Rival Sons does it and its not a bad thing to admit that. I guess most fans don't really give a fuck about these things.
