Nick D'Virgilio presents the Gretsch Drums Marquee five-piece shell pack. It delivers explosive tones thanks to a unique tonewood cocktail that combines North American rock maple with a slightly softer maple species. This 5-piece shell pack includes a kick drum, two rack toms, a floor tom, and a matching snare. Each drum is expertly crafted with smooth 30-degree bearing edges and fitted with 2.3mm triple-flanged hoops for a warm, powerful attack and deep sustain.

The Brooklyn Gretsch is the kit to have.

I have a set of these and they are great. Don't believe the negative troll posts. They sound like the kit in this video. Used for 5-600 is totally worth it.

This kit is very similar to the current version of the Renown, but still with its own individual pieces to separate it from that line. I think Gretsch should bring back the Marquee and keep everything the same as it was except with non maple shells to differentiate it from the Renown. Keep the triple flange hoops, satin finishes, virgin kick, the available configurations and add on sizes, and interior stain (not silver sealer). It would be cool to have that as an alternative to other birch hybrid kits like the Pearl Session Studio Select and Tama StarClassic.

So what exactly are the differences between the Marquee and the Renown kit? I even heard one of the people from Gretsch say they were pretty similar in a review video... The Renown costs more money so that means its... better? I don't really know. I'm sure I wouldn't be disappointed with either one but can anyone out there tell me the difference between the two kits?

Renown has die cast/302 hoops plus silver sealer.

As somebody that owns a Marquee and has played a Renown many times, I can tell you that the main difference with the two is the hardware. The Renown has much more punchy tone to it. The Marquee is a little more of an open classic Maple sound. Both kits are great. But the Renown is just a little higher end on the construction and hardware category. The sound difference is pretty much minor.

I don't know if the Cymbal stands i have now can handle having toms on them. Could that be for good reason or am i just too nervous? Should i aim for drums with a bass drum mount?
@Jackson-DeGrappo
@Jackson-DeGrappo 7 лет назад
Noah Eskew I think you'll be fine but if there not sturdy enough there are stands just for holding toms but don't buy a drum set because of you symbol stands can't handle it

sticks45 I have them now in a gorgeous satin dark cherry. the stands I had are more than capable I just had to spread the legs out more and change the arrangement. But, the new setup is really growing on me. I like the kick and toms being indecent from one another a lot.

Just distribution rights, like Fender did before them. Fred and Dinah still own the Gretsch name.

What hardware are you using to mount the toms?

They are from PDP. Simple tom holders that work well. Below is a link from sweetwater.com for you to check out. Take care! www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/PDAX991

Junk. Tried them out and boy are they weak. The hardware is flimsy especially on the bass drum where the tension rods are almost too short to reach the lugs and I really had to force the hoop down to start the thread, really thought I was going to break something. The suspension mounts on the toms are all over the place and it will take you a while to position them as they just droop. BTW, 5 lugs on toms? Cheap and not really able to fine tune, and no handles on the bass drum tension rods which is a great feature for easy tuning imo. Not worth it which is why they don't make them anymore. Buy a 90's or even 80's era kit with hardware mounted on the bass drum, easier set up and you will never notice the tonal differences as suspension mounts are a farce. Returned them to the store the next day.
