I have owned one of these with a bigsby for 3 years now. I absolutely love it. It is comfortable to play stays in tune. I have never set it up. It played great out of the box. It keeps me inspired. If you are looking for a semi-hollow you must consider it.
Had a 2622T for a couple of years. Put a roller bridge and locking tuners and it keeps in tune. Sounds great, plays great, feels great and looks great! Hard to beat a Gretsch in ANY price range. Nothing else like them!
the roller bridge is the one mod I often think about for my gretsch's. Might have to try one out - I think it'd make my 5422TG (w/ bigsby) even more smooth. Thanks for dropping in!
I’ve owned one of these. I wasn’t crazy about the pickups, the pots were really poor, the tuning stability wasn’t great, and it had some neck dive. On the other hand, I’ve never had a more comfortable and inviting guitar to play - so light and such amazing buttery smooth low action. And I love the look of it, has some individuality in a sea of safe sameness. I’m not into doing much work or mods on a guitar, so for me, it wasn’t good enough to be a keeper, but I do miss the feel of it. I guess I need to go up a level to the Electromatic series, for hardware that isn’t so compromised.
I hear those critiques - the pots definitely don't feel luxurious ha. And if the pickups were just standard 3-way humbucker config I'd be bummed, but the coil splitting really opens up a lot of different sounds that I'm pretty pleased with for the price point. I am definitely curious about doing some mods on one of these Streamliner tier guitars and seeing how pickups / roller bridge / etc might bring it to life.
Very nice demo 👍👍 it sounds really great in your setup. I like that smaller body size of this G2655, because I usually play at home having the guitar on my lap 😉 So I am looking forward to a boygenius Streamliner arriving in September, which has some special features on top. 🤩
@@AmbientEndeavorsunfortunately Gretsch make only 1000 of them and they were sold out within two weeks. So many people were not able to order one. There is a nice video with Julien Baker talking about the boygenius Gretsch. She's so great. 🖤
I like that you are playing guitars on your channel that most people can afford. This one is about the size of a Epiphone 339 which I owned briefly. I didn’t like the Epiphone due to too many quality issues. Thanks for showing us this cool Gretsch!
Love it! Yeah , I think there's a place for $500 guitars and $5000 guitars even in the same collection. I had admittedly low expectations for this when Gretsch sent it out but it's sort of a testament to where the lower priced guitars have come; the feel and playability and finish all exceeded my expectations. I personally might consider a pickup swap if this was going to remain my main player, just for more humbucker clarity, but there are so many tonal options with the coil-split that it becomes nit-picky. Thanks for watching, appreciate it!
Very good sounding guitar. I wonder what the difference is between the BT-2S pups that used to come in this model and the new BT-3S pups that are in this one?
I liked the G2655T models I played like yours but didn't like the sound of the ones with metallic P90s. I have a G5655T that picked up last year used and it has made me fall in love with Gretsch Guitars. I definitely prefer my single cut to the double cutaway because the bodies on these seem almost too small for me. I want to grab a G5210t-P90 model as I keep liking those models. My dream Gretsch right now would probably be a Penguin, but these Streamliners and Electromatic Gretschs are totally underrated.
Thanks! :) I haven’t checked out the D’Angelico. In my mind those were only high-end jazz stuff but I’m seeing some of the lower end models now. I’ll have to investigate.
you know , they're pretty decent, especially for a $400 guitar. To upgrade, you'd probably be spending as much as the guitar is worth, so for me they're good enough to keep em in - I really enjoy the split coil sounds in this guitar. The full HB sounds are fine to good, sometimes feeling too muddy for me but I've heard worse for sure.
