He was the BEST one. And you're right, he was treated awfully. Everyone in that hospital used him as a helping hand, talked badly about him, and he was always pulled into unfavorable situations. He was treated sometimes as a punching bag for people's problems like Izzy's, and sometimes as an errand boy, and that goes for the chief especially. He was going to join the Army to do good, but he died from a bus impact. He did not deserve that 😥
I think what made George great was that he was the every man. He didn't have a tough childhood, he didn't have a famous mom, he didn't have anything really driving him other then he wanted to be a surgeon. There's a great brilliance to that simplicity because he provides that extra depth to the story. George was great because if people were honest with themselves, they were him or they had been him. The person who was overlooked or didn't quite fit in with a group of obvious geniuses. He's like what Sherlock Holmes really wore over the iconic clothes. I'm still a little ticked with how he left the show and how that last season played out for him, how he essentially disappeared before being killed off, even his trauma surgery arc didn't feel that great.
Thats true. He was probably the only one who didn't have an abusive, neglectful, or controlling parents. That's what made him the best character in that show - he didn't need to prove anything, he didn't want status or fame, he just wanted to help people. He even tried to join the Army to help people on the battlefield. Everyone else just threw their problems at him and each other. He deserved better than getting hit by a bus.
Nick Suazo so many things went unresolved in his last season. He doesn’t get to do anything with his new interns or patch things with Lexie, and I don’t think he ever really met Arizona
Nick Suazo the show didn’t so much die so much as the dynamic that made the show, the MAGIC (Meredith, Alex, George, Izzie, Christina) was gone and the drama got a bit more ridiculous but a lot of those problems were still there like Sadee’s story was a waste of time and there were others like hers later as well as just bad decisions.
@@slushdog1012 I loved both Christina and George. Christina is the only reason I kept watching after George left. Then, after Christina, I haven't watched one episode.
To me George was the most amazing heartfelt character, he was bullied by Cristina and Alex, yes he did cheat on Callie which was cruel but he he grew so well, he flew solo in an elevator when Alex chocked, he was Baily's favourite intern, and he was gonna be an incredible trauma surgeon. The stupid writers did him so wrong. His death changed the show, it lost its mojo. George joined the army because he no longer fit in. It's just heartbreaking that he had to go that way and I'll never get over the fact his friends laughed so hard at his funeral .. fucked up writers .. REST IN PEACE GEORGE O'MALLEY
It was fucked up. It was fucked up that George was basically bullied for not being at their level. And even at his funeral, Christina, Meredith, Alex and Izzy just laugh at the situation. They couldn't even respect his funeral, they just laughed it off like it was another day in surgery. The whole cast of characters may feel horrible about it, but, unlike Bailey and Lexie for the most part and maybe Torres and Izzy, they didn't really value him. They all just felt bad about his death. Hell, I wouldn't be surprised that they just forget him later on as time flew by! George O'Malley was the best, wholesome character this show had going for it and nothing will ever change that. George O'Malley, Rest In Peace
Totally agree. George was one of the most beloved characters by the audience and the way the writers dealt with him leaving was just pathetic and didn't do him justice. He was basically invisible in the 5th season and then his death and that terrible funeral, about 40 days of mourning and that's it, like nothing happened. They laughed at him when he was alive and then they laughed when he was gone. His was supposed to be their friend, and he deserved more respect, they didn't miss him the way he deserved to be missed.
George was the smartest of them all. Really. He failed his intern exam by one point,ONE POINT!! The reason why he fails is because he was distracted by all the problems in his life; he was trying to help Meredith cope with the lost of her mother as well as dealing with the lost of his own father. Still he failed my ONE POINT!! Now imagine how well he would’ve done if he had been really focus.
Bailey was affected by George o'Malley's death and her character changed so much from that time.... You may ask why bailey ? Well, a woman never forgets especially if you helped in her pregnancy.
@@mu004dhrumil3 I'm still watching. I'm at season 5, but if it loses its mojo because it lost its everyman, I'm calling it quits because the show screwed him over.
@@mu004dhrumil3 i feel you i also stopped watching after his death but picked it back up for Lexie and mark then i quit again but i picked it back up to see Meredith become a great surgeon so i don’t think i’ll quit as long as she’s still there
@@nicksuazo4377 if anything it loses its mojo around season 11 or 12 when the good characters keep leaving and they can’t keep doing plane crashes or shootings but the seasons before that are really good
The part that makes me mad, is that he had NO screen time in the last season. It's almost like they just stopped caring about him. Just because he didn't have a ton of relationship drama or personal issues doesn't mean you just throw him under the bus. (Not good for this situation but it's a good metaphor) I understand that it was Knight's decision to leave and I completely respect that, but I think him getting ZERO screen time might've impacted his decision in leaving. I wish he would've at least been shown more before he died.
He was looking for other jobs to do so they were moving him to b in the army so he could come back occasionally and still b in the show but he wanted to leave so they followed the original story line and just added a death scene.
Nykeia Wilson So it wasn’t his request to be killed off like how Chyler requested Lexie’s exit was “dramatic” and “shocking”? I hear rumors about how TR left partially due to homophobia, specifically after the Isaiah situation. I’m just saying, killing off a character after cutting his airtime significantly (and right on the heels of him having a bad storyline) when the actor was struggling with intolerance, and now the show trying to be all diverse does not help them.
The George O’Malley storyline just shows how wrong shows can get it sometimes. After they killed off George’s character, it wasn’t the same. Everyone felt it. The show lost many viewers, and others continued watching but found the show less real, less attractive. They lost their everyman, their ordinary guy trying his best with life constantly kicking him in the guts...it’s how most people feel - like they’re not the best, that they’re not that respected, not that attractive, not that clever, not that liked...but they keep trying anyway. That was George. So people related to him in a way they couldn’t with the fabulously attractive genius characters blazing a trail all the time. George felt real for many people, and for his character to be sidelined and then killed so brutally just showed viewers that Greys might be an amazing show, but it was just a show run by human beings with petty malices and backbiting and egos driving everything behind the scenes. It lost its magic. They could have gone anywhere with George’s character and people would have loved him. He was a brilliant creation. People who kill off their best creation just show how arrogant they are - as if they think they can do anything with anybody and their audience loves their show so much they’ll just lap it up. Well no, actually. NO. Not George. That’s what everyone says. Not George. And to have done this just because the actor playing him was gay and didn’t want to hide it anymore was despicable, and they should have been sued. Disgusting behaviour. A brilliant show, brilliant characters, brilliant writing....so, so often. But not this. A step too far, and you killed off the best character you ever created. Idiots.
He wanted to leave. What you say is true, he was an amazing character, but the actor wanted to leave. Unfortunately sometimes the actors want to try new projects and this happens. But at least we have this seasons to remember him forever and learn what this fictional characters taught us. The writers can't be at fault all the times. We don't know what happens behind the scenes, the pressure they have on their shoulders from the companies they work for. We should always be grateful for the work that people put into something rather we like it or not. At least they tried to do something different.
Actually, they were fine with him coming out. He left on his OWN because of his coming out, and his lack of screentime in season 5 also played a role. It was heartbreaking...but it was his actor's decision
Yes, if the actor wanted to leave, that was okay, but they had an opertunerty to write him out without killing him of. He was going to leave to join the army anyway, that would have been a fine sendoff for George without killing him of. There was no need to kill him of.
The actor wanted to leave. I know it had to do something with him being gay but I thought that the person who played dr. burke had disrespected the gay community or something like that after or right before he came out as gay. Also I think that he wanted to play a gay character like callie but they wouldn't let him so he left the show because of those two reasons.
I got the tingles wtf George may be my favorite TV series character ever, and watching this just makes me miss him more. Just imagine how the show would be now if they could still go back to do an episode or two.
George's story is one of perseverance. He wasn't the smartness or the brightest he wanted to save lives and that's what drove him and that is what made him successful. When you work hard and you don't give up you achieve what you thought was impossible
his story arc really had a lot of potencial he was that underdog who tried so hard and could become better I really wanted for him better ending whule i really think that his death story was heartbreaking and his scene with izzy in the elevator was truly amazing... That scene was wonderfull tibute for special bond that these two had.
This made me remember how bullied and verbally abused George actually was all the time, by all of them, not just Alex. I know it's just a show and some of those insults were for the comical purposes but now that I think about it, this seems to be a bit unrealistic that they become friends. At least personally, I'm not sure if I would be able to befriend people who made me feel like shit most of the time. Anyways, I miss George and Lexi, they were one of my top favourites :(
That's why I never cared for the show too much. Anyone who was considered "different" or "nice" they bullied them. They did this with George and April. Got annoying after a while.
In my opinion George was the best character ever, and the creators of Grey's kind of downplayed his death. His simplicity, the fact that he had come from an ordinary family with a decent life story is what really made the character. I loved how absolutely selfless he was (aside from him cheating on Callie), and how adorably shy he was until he proved otherwise. I honestly think all of his "friends" were horrible aside from Lexie and maybe Izzie. Nobody treated him like he belonged, even after he proved so. After his death, which was annoyingly rushed, there were moments when characters cried but aside from that, not really anything. I mean, Denny got the clinic named after him. Sloan and Derek got the hospital. But nobody really acknowledged how much of a great surgeon George could have become and they all downplayed him. It's horrible
I've never loved a character, in ANY TV show, movie, musical or otherwise, more than I love this man right here - George OMalley. He was the heart of this show. After his death it went to hell. I didn't think it was possible to love a character quite this much.
George was a very special character tbh. He wasn't special in a way like one of his family members was famous and he didn't have a traumatic childhood or some specific reason why to become a surgeon. He was a very nice character, a wholesome character. I felt really bad when he died and I don't like the fact that most characters weren't respecting or treated him awfully other than Lexie, who was kind to him. I felt terrible when he died.
"You don't know what you got until it's gone." I think this was the moral of George's death. On the surface he was just your average, everyday hero. Nothing special about him. But looking back, he was an extraordinary man to be reckoned with.
George O'Malley was the only character on that whole damn show that was not a cheating w****. He was a sweet innocent Underdog cinnamon bun that deserves so much more
It made me cry because of the fact he looked up to see his friends thinking he was just another patient, they didn't really know who he was and his lasts moments are when they finally find out.
O'malley is my mentor.Everything I try in medical school fails .But I keep trying ,I never give up .I hope I'll become better at some point in the future .
Just finished season 5 and my fave character just died. I've been reading and watching some of the articles/news about why he was cut off this show and I just feel sad for his character. He got less and less airtime. All characters have things going on each episode and he was the only one who doesn't. It was so obvious. I'm not really sure if I wanted to continue watching this show after this season. Its just so absurd. They could make a wonderful character arc for George. He works hard and he loves his family and he didn't have any traumatic background. For once, they should have one character who is normal not everyone is broken inside. I miss you George. :(
3:16 George O'Malley was that type of person he was different and he never ran away. O'Malley was no chicken in any case he would save a life. We saw this when he did a surgery in a elevator, when he was about to go to the army, when we risked his life for a girl who was about to get hit by a bus. It is O'Malleys kindest and risk taking dedication that made him truly unstoppable.
they made him appear less and less on the show in season 5... now I know why... He was an amazing character and they couldn't made him go away in a more honorable way!!
I loved & still love his character & it grew so much in such little time! His personality was amazing & he is definitely my all time favorite character. I will forever miss O'Malley being on the show!
I always think its intresting how George could just be anyone. He was just kind, and I think that is what made his character normal. It was easy to relate to. Good family, and a bit dorky and easy to pick on. But he always came through. He got 14 reccmondations because he was hardworking, kind and respectful. Yeah it might not make your popular to your peers, but honestly, to your teachers (at least I hope) that it showed a lot to a teacher. He liked helping people, and could have been so much more with a truama arc. I really wish that he and Owen had a mentor/mentee relationship.
I already watched the whole series. I started rewatching it a couple weeks ago. I sobbed when he died the first time and I sobbed again. I appreciate his character so much and he was the BEST one. Bailey was right next to him.
I knew about his death ahead of time and I was still upset when he died and became even more upset and it’s really heartbreaking that he didn’t meet April.
Thanks for this video ! George was my favorite since the pilot episode, and he will always be because I related with him. His character had great potential and they totally screwed his development. I hated that they made him fail in the end of season 3 and I stopped watching regularly after this. When he died, I just stopped watching, and honestly after his death, there was no more ordinary guy on that show. I miss you so much, George O'Malley ! You're a good guy and always will be ! One of the best TV show characters in my opinion.
George and Izzie were always the best ones! The show wasn’t the same after these beautiful and complex characters were gone. And I mean it in the bad way.
As someone who has lost their father, big brother, little brother in motor vehicle accidents and almost died myself in a motorcycle accident... O'malley was the underdog that you couldn't help but to love and cheer for.... His characters death hit me on a different level
Just finished season 5, I've been binge watching Greys since the lockdown, George is my favourite character, they did him wrong. He barely featured in the last season and then was killed of brutally, 😭, O'Malley is my guy...
I miss him he was amazing in the right moment I wish they make and come back episode with him maybe like a ghost or something btw after watching your video and the series again Alex is a jerk he grow up but God he was a jerk and sometimes he keep acting like that. Amazing edit 😁
YT just put your Grey's videos in my suggested videos they are awesome but especially this one and Derek Shepard's were perfect clips with perfect music. I hope you do more characters. And I hope you are flattered as I also loved this music in this video which I never heard of before this video and this video has more hits than the artist!!! Peace
Omg this made me so sad I'm fr crying they should have kept him and when he said anybody can have brains anybody can have Talent but the key is to grew that made me feel more motivated for me to get into med school and help poeple
I feel Grey's Anatomy is not that interesting without George. It is just relationships and messing up around. George had relationships too but he is different from all the characters. I was very angry on the producers for taking a decision of killing his character and sure I fell they might have regretted it later. I expect to see him on the show I dont know how writers do it. Thanks to producers for getting him back on 17th season.
Did anybody notice 0:04 that that was George, this was before we for sure knew that was George but I’m rewatching this episode and I was realizing how when I first watched this I didn’t realize George was gone I was too busy excited for the intervention to keep George from the army bc I didn’t want him to go! But in that lil clip you can see George’s face. His bright blue eyes and I can see & tell that it’s him! Didn’t realize that was Him when I first watched
