Oddball scene, my fathers buddy had a prosthetic from the knee down on his right leg. He lived for freaking out kids at ball games. He’d be pealing an apple with a folding knife & always pick out a kid sitting near by. From there he’d ask if that kid felt his dad was tough. Obviously, the answer was usually yes. Then he’d stick the knife into the covered prosthetic & say let’s see him do that..... I have no idea how many children I witnessed being traumatized for life.
This!!! XD I never questioned the idea behind the stabbing part but they breach sterile at LEAST twice and I think more in this one surgery. And it's open heart surgery!!!
This is the second reaction to Arizona Robbins in my subscriptions today. The other one was about her lesbian wedding reacted to by a married lesbian couple, namely Rose and Rosie.
Not an amputee myself, but as someone with neuralgia I can sympathize with the whole random leg pain thing. Tingly numbness, electric shocks, burning, and being stabbed. Sometimes all at once. Unfortunately the foot stabbing technique isn't practical for me because I have meat feet.
Not on phantom pain, but I have seen several clips of Amy Purdy Dancing with the star’s performances etc. in one of the extra clips shows her swapping feet on her prosthetics, also going to the running blades for the quickstep dance. Another from the same show is Noah Galloway , in a clip explaining because he is an above the knee amputee, he couldn’t do a certain step when they were choreographing a dance.
Having a prosthetic has worked to my advantage with my cockatoos, they have a weird fascination with feet...love to bite them lol I put out my "fake foot" let them bite...cured the issue with my real foot 🤣 I didn't however know they cost a few hundred to replace!!! Lol
Wait till you watch a very particular chase scene in Hong Kong actioner "Shock Wave 2". Guy grabs a random prosthetic leg and still sprints fast. (By the way, it's on Amazon Prime Video)😂😂😂
As someone who is mostly okay with my health issues in most contexts but also works in a healthcare setting, I get more self-conscious about them in front of coworkers and then especially in front of patients, so unless she was a prosthetist, I completely understand wanting to get a cover even if she were more comfortable
Arizona did get a newer prosthetic leg in the show that allowed her to wear heels, it did have the cover on it to look more natural when she wore dresses and heels.
I once dropped a knife that landed on and stuck into my fake foot. I said, "ouch" without understanding why I said it. It didn't hurt at all. And I have never had any phantom pain that I can remember. Though I did have it at one point because my parents said I complained about my foot hurting after it was amputated.
@@CaedmonOS I have played games where the controller vibrates if you're being hurt. I was once playing a game where you had to do something that caused you to receive damage constantly. The trick was to complete the task before you ran out of health. While doing this I actually felt real pain. It odd because I knew, logically that I wasn't really feeling pain, so it hurt and it didn't hurt at the same time. Hard to describe the sensation. That or my controller had a short in it. Not sure, but it was very strange.
@@erictaylor5462 I've never felt it as an extended sensation it's more like I see my character get injured and for a second my brains like oh you've been injured and then it doesn't feel pain and it's like wait what
It was Owen, the one who gave the “order” 😂 who told her about the stabbing since he had served in the military and seen soldiers with prosthetics do such things to deal with phantom pain.
😂 "NOT THAT YOU AREN'T GOOD, YOU'RE JUST DIFFERENT!" 😂 Never fail to make me laugh Jo so thank you! ❤ I wish I could ask you so many different things and have your guidance and strength! Ive had a BKA which I had no idea about until I woke up in ICU 1 month after being admitted. I've had nothing but complication after complication and not long had a fourth revisional surgery which is the last chance of keeping it below knee. They've run out of residual limb and are even questioning if what I have left will be enough for a BK prosthesis. (If not, it will be a through knee or above) It's over 14 months since I lost my leg and still no sign of a prosthetic so I can't mentally and physically take much more. But from the bottom of my heart, thank you for always being the ray of sunshine you are. Lots of love and well wishes to you from the UK, Sarah xxx
I wonder at what age the brainmap if the body solidifies. Do people who got amputated as kids experience phantom pain? How about people who were born missing a limb?
@@eiji6222 I think I would be freaked out if my leg burst into flames at a wedding. Not to mention, unless I was the groom, it would be extremely rude. A wedding is about the couple getting married, not about guests and their spontaneously flammable prosthetic limbs.
Jo, I don't know if you read all your comments, but I wanted to apologize for being negative about recovering from loosing my leg. I still haven't gotten my prothstetic and am feeling very alone. Please try and understand. I'm glad you are doing so well. I wish I had half the stamina you do. Take care.
I love when you told your leg "not that you're not good, you're just different." I have cerebral palsy, so my right hand is a lot weaker than my left, and that's a really positive way of looking at it that I hadn't thought of before.
So, I have a question I am hoping someone on here might be able to shed light on. I am about to become an amputee. I am also a paraplegic, and for the most part have no sensation below the knee. The doctors were not able to tell me if I would have any phantom pain or not. Personally, it would be seriously odd for me suddenly have feeling in my foot. I have been feeling some pain in my foot as the bone infection that is necessitating this amputation gets worse (and I’m not sure why I would have pain now when I didn’t before), but that is not my normal state with regards to my foot. Anyway, is there anyone who watches this channel who is both an amputee and a paraplegic that could share their experience post-op? I realize that the whole phantom pain thing is very individual and another paraplegic’s experience will not be the same as mine will be, but it would be nice to hear anyway.
TV shows aren't always accurate?!?! Anyway, it's wonderful how you put forth a demeanor that's so poised and cheerful and positive in these videos. That can be hard! Do please remember that if you want to vent a little, we are here to listen.
Great video like always. Thank you that I could spend a couple of minutes out of my day with you 😉 Sadly I saw the app is only for Apple, not android. Otherwise would have downloaded it immediately
In the same episode they did show Owen different techniques that help. I think there was breathing, bio feedback , visualisation. Arizona did do mirror therapy herself in the bathroom. The stabbing idea came from owen explaining he knew soliders who needed to do that to believe it and initially she dismissed it until she didn’t have any option.
I'm not an amputee but I have issues with my right foot/ankle and often have to wear an ankle stabilizer/brace. I get itchy a LOT when I wear it and I often find scratching my other leg/foot helps, weirdly. And I kinda understand how that can work for amputees.
I wonder if there will one day be a procedure for the brain to kind of...delete the unnecessary part of the body map? Nothing invasive, maybe a laser procedure like a gamma knife. That would be really interesting.
The mirror thing tripped me out for a second because I did watch you JUST before the amputation, like the first video I saw was the goodbye to your leg. So seeing you with both legs like that was like wait what? Where's Sunshine?! Oh right it's a mirror.... XD
I have a serious question about amputation and have no one to ask. Does anyone know who I might be able to email ask my question? It a personal question about myself with an issue I am having and so far not one person , doctors, physical therapists, or prosthetist has been able to give me a solution.
Okay the phantom pain today and last night was horrible all seven of the little minors was in there like whacking at the bone the mirrors therapy does nothing for me I don't think stabbing a prosthetic but would help maybe I don't have mine yet I do a lot of the mind over matter stuff if you don't mind it don't matter works 10% of the time I have thought about hiring a small assassin to kill the miners but they want he wants too much money. Now a question to everybody? They said I live in has passed the medical marijuana using it for pain and such stepmother father sister and four others are all anti marijuana and several of my other friends are through marijuana usage the debate is my family wants me to get the card I'm considering it in the past I have used marijuana for recreation and it has helped with pain in the past now it's so much more intense though what's y'all's opinion pro use it or not use it. And I'm so shocked that my 75 year old father and stepmother said I should do it I almost fell out of my wheelchair. What's up you read this far just post something either yes or no I'm leaning towards yes even though it cost more than the medications that I take now 🤔
Omg 😂 MEAT LEG!!?? I'm an amputee (currently BKA) and have been for well over a year now. I have NEVER heard this term used and nearly choked when I read it! I've got a sick sense of humour so needless to say, I bloody loved it!!! 😂
For mirror therapy, there’s a very nice example of it in House M.D. don’t know if it’s represented accurately but they do execute it and briefly explain the mechanics of it.
Why would they mention her amputation? I want to be known as myself, not as "the amputee" doctors are a proud bunch, she would want people to see her as a surgeon, not as an amputee surgeon
Wonderful video! I am also a below knee amputee. I had my amputation done 10 years ago. I had developed a serious bone infection. Anyway, 10 years later I still get moments of phantom pain. It's just as you described. Generally, I feel a jolt of pain somewhere. It could be in my toes, my heel, my calf muscle, etc. I suddenly jump and people look at me wondering what happened. It doesn't happen often but it's quite painful when it does. I've never heard of the "mirror therapy." I'll have to try it.
I'm disappointed that I didn't find your channel earlier than now. You're so informative and just seem like a lovely person. I'm really excited to go back to your first video lol.
I haven’t had an amputation, but have a completely dead foot from sciatica and nerve issues, it drives me mad when the nerves fire or I get cramps start firing from nowhere and I can’t stop it. I know it’s not the same but I can sympathise. 😕
Arizona had gotten a high heel prosthetic that was made to look like a real leg. All (I think) of the later scenes were filmed with her wear heels so you could assume she was just wearing that prosthetic.
Yay another greys anatomy reaction type thing, also there is a scene were Arizona is in bed and feels the like pain and reaches to try and sooth it without realising her leg is no longer there
I think they should have made her wear a knee brace to affect her gait since she is an above knee amputee and above knee amputees usually have a more noticeable limp than a below knee amputee.. And if she is in shoes that show her foot use the wrong colour foundation on it so it looks like the prostectic foot! There was cheaper options to make it seem like her leg was still missing without using cgi but still keeping the continuity.
This video reminds me of an "odd" part from a collab with Annika a while ago. Jo is talking about the sensation of papercutting between her toes and Annika is reaching at her prostetic foot. This part ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-xhSafss9nuk.html
Kinda thought this scene was stupid. If I was wearing pants and shoes and someone stabbed my prosthetic. I would probably freak out, thinking it would hurt.
Went to download Hapday only to find while it is free to download, to use the service you have to pay monthly or a yearly subscription. The promo code gives a month free, and then charges you after that.
