On a summer day clear elsewhere but showery at Wyoming's continental-divide town Rawlins (elevation 6,800 ft / 2,100 m) , a Greyhound bus enroute from Salt Lake City to Denver under the care of a compassionate bilingual driver exits Interstate 80 and enters the town (@ 3:10 to 3:34) to afford its nicotine-stricken passengers a quick unscheduled puff of relief. Farther east (@ 3:55 onward), ominous-looking rain clouds are gradually replaced by fair-weather cumulous. After Laramie (@ 5:44), the bus leaves Interstate 80 to follow Colorado Highway 287 through Fort Collins for Denver (@ 8:52).
Once in Denver, all four evening departures are delayed for an indefinite period of time due to "buses awaiting mechanical preparations," this causing a sea of passengers to spread out in the terminal in preparation for the night to come (@ 10:13 to 10:43). After having endured three hours of anxiety, the buses eventually would resume operation, which would then lead to missed downline connections for many ....
