Joseph Gallenberger, PhD, is a clinical psychologist. He is author of Inner Vegas: Creating Abundance, Miracles, and Health and Liquid Luck: The Good Fortune Handbook. His most recent book is Heaven is for Healing: A Soul's Journey After Suicide. He is a senior trainer with the Monroe Institute near Charlottesville, Virginia.
Here he shares his personal journey following the suicide of his older brother, Pete. He points out that his extensive background in both psychological and spiritual work provided surprisingly little help in coping with the pain occasioned by his loss. The grieving process required many years. However, the metaphor of a cocoon is apt insofar as grief and death can, ultimately, lead to transformative openings.
New Thinking Allowed host, Jeffrey Mishlove, PhD, is author of The Roots of Consciousness, Psi Development Systems, and The PK Man. He teaches parapsychology for ministers in training with the Centers for Spiritual Living through the Holmes Institute.

Thank you so much for your candor about your grief in this interview. I just passed the 4th anniversary of my 29 year old daughter's sudden death. The impact on all of us who love her has been so painful. This interview was very moving and I was deeply, deeply touched. I'm looking forward to the next interview. Thank you so much Joe Gallenberger and Jeffrey Mishlove

You will always have grief. It does not go away. But it gets so much better, calmer. Don't be too hard on yourself about the grieving process. It goes up and down and sideways. But you should notice a general trend that it is getting better. If not, seek professional help. There is no reason to hold on to your grief because of your guilt. They are separate. I am sorry for your loss.

I think one of the greatest powers a human can achieve, is the the ability to to Turn Any Pain Into Power. Life will give pain, those who can turn pain into strength, own the secrets of alchemy, youth, gold.

My parents died within one month of each other, and it is difficult grieving their loss after four years. It says in the Bible (paraphrasing) that we're never given more than we can handle. There must be lots of angels watching over those who suffer tragedy and loss. The only way out of the grief is going through it. It does build the resilient soul. About depression; because it is pandemic, how can we help those who are struggling with this and how often is grief a trigger to depression? Do the meditative tapes help depression and to what degree? Thank-you Joe and Jeffrey for your wonderful program that shines light on so many deep levels of psychology!❤️👍

How could a person who has had a loved one commit suicide locate a person or group like the one who helped Dr. Gallenberger contact his brother. It seems there are many out there that just seek to make money through conning grieving people.

Thank you for the insight on this interview, and to know just how much other people go through it as well. The person I love took his life just over a year ago and getting through the grief is extremely tough.

I know I didn't want to live in a world without the love of my life when she passed from colon cancer- But I'm still here somehow. It's people like Joseph with their insights that has helped me keep going. One thing I've learned about grief, it changes, but it's always there.

What a wonderful interview, Joe and Jeff! I've learned so much about death, grief, but at the same time about life. You have provided yet another personal confirmation that "life" is what prevails and cannot really be destroyed, no matter what. Hope to see you guys together again in many more chats of this sort. They are a selfless service to so many of us who are willing to listen and learn.

...woke up around 4:30am and decided to get up. ...found this 'cuz I'm facing chemoradiation for Cancer and I'm looking into P.A.S. - and the algos know that... ...listen while I make my tea and sit down to play some solitaire while it plays... ...cannot win one hand. ...cannot even play more than 2 or 3 cards. That dude found the Bad Luck Groove and got stuck in it for sure. As Anngwyn St. Just might describe it, The Field still holds the unresolved trauma and needs someone to heal it. I'm so sorry about your Family's tragedy, Sir. I would encourage you to look elsewhere for the cause besides the life and death of your Beloved Brother. Where- and whatever it is, it is still active. 🙏📿☕

Rewatching this and got even more this time around. Going to check out Pam Hogan's link from your comment section. I'm also fascinated by the Monroe Institute's program for 'soul rescue'. ♡ Thank you for a particularly moving interview, gentlemen.
