As a psychotherapist I have to say this is the best and most concise grieving advice I have listened to in a long time! This is valuable not only for animal fostering, but grieving of all kinds. You are a compassionate and special woman. I think you realize that. Keep doing what you’re doing for animals and humans alike. You make a huge difference in this world and a wonderful model of kindness and perseverance. Thank you for being you.

It was devastating when I learned that poor, sweet Twinkle didn't make it. I cried as if she was my own. I lost Jake, my sweet tuxedo cat last year to cardiomyopathy and kidney failure. It was heartbreaking. 15 years with him wasn't enough. My 3 other cats felt the loss as well. It's never easy, whether they are kittens or seniors. Thank you for all that you do, Hannah. ❤

I lost a kitten who I wanted to foster fail. I was able to accept her death because she came to me with a fractured arm with an awful infection that spread. I took her to the vet multiple times and they did what they could but ultimately she passed in my arms. I was heartbroken but she's with me always. I have videos and pictures of her and I wish she was here but she taught me a lot ❤️RIP Cleo

I'm so sorry! I foster and had a kitten die, and although I start crying whenever I look back at pictures of her, I know she is glad that all her siblings lived super amazing lives. One of her sisters got super sick, and everyone was surprised she survived. And I know that her sister was watching above in Heaven and made me extra motivated to make sure her sister survived. Just know, that more than one of those kittens would have died on the streets, and you have helped save so many lives. ❤️

I went through an extremely traumatizing rescue attempt today. I am not a foster mom, and I was totally unprepared except for the knowledge I've gained from watching these videos over the years as a fan. We lost all four newborn kittens (one was stillborn) but saved the mom, who was only 4 months old. The conditions of this attempted rescue were so unbelievably horrific and not only was animal control abusive and racist, but we called over 50+ companies and nobody could take them. I feel so awful. It's like my soul is caving in. I held them all, and I can't get the memory out of my skin. I appreciate this video. I really need it right now.

I kept up with your updates on Twinkle every day. When I saw on your Instagram that she passed, my heart sank :( It was so good to know though that she passed with the best care you could provide and with so SO much love surrounding her from all over the world! I love these tips, I lost my first cat a year ago, and I agree - letting it fuel a positive action also makes me feel best. It takes that heaviness, and instead of letting it keep you in bed, it acts as a momentum to keep going. Thanks for this video and all the amazing work you do!

My kitty Aurora Belle passed away in June of 2019. She was my first cat and I knew her as my sister. She was a beautiful Thai and Balinese mix. She was only 14 when she died, of leukemia. Her ashes are on my bedside table, and I still haven’t gotten over her loss... She was my bestest friend because, I have no friends at school, and I’d be so happy to see her when I got home everyday. I really miss her. Thanks for reading.

I wish and hope that you will find another Kitty that you can love as much and that will help you in your grief and to overcome it easier, you will never forget it, and you will notice, that you will think of her for some time to come. The unconditional love of her for you and visa versa will never die. I hope you will find a new lovely friend, choose the one that speaks to your heart and is sweet in behavior towards everyone. This how we chose our cats. All the best my dear for you. 😽🌺😊

Last year(2019) I took in a kitten that was only a couple days old. Her mother had abandoned her in my neighbors yard and my family took her in. At that time I was sickly and took her in to get my mind off my sick body. I had noticed that she passed the mark of when she was supposed to open her eyes, (thanks to your video)and that she wasn’t gaining weight. She wasn’t pooping no matter how much I tried. I learned that she was lethargic and we took her to the vet. They said they tried all that they could but that it would be better to let her go, that she was suffering. She took her last breath in my hands. It took me weeks to get over it mostly because it was my first death. I had become insomniac and wouldn’t eat. I would blame myself for everything saying that I could have done something sooner. It took a tole on my family as well. It came to the point that we were all depressed. I think my point is that everyone takes death a different way and grieve differently as well. It may seem like hope is lost but it gets better. Obviously it will take time just take it one step at a time. Her name was Haru and she was my first cat. Since then my family has adopted three cats and we’re a cat family now. Haru will always have a special place in my heart and I will always remember her. I don’t know who would read this but thank you if you took time to read it.❤️

I’m back to watch this video for a second time. I got into fostering after finding a neonatal kitten this summer and losing her. I was devastated, I had no idea how high the mortality rates are in the tiniest beans so i was very unprepared. I immediately looked for support online and knew you’d have a video on this topic and lo and behold. I knew I wanted to Foster after that and started officially fostering in August. I took on two babies, one of them a medical case. The issue she had ended up being congenital and we had to put her to sleep today after tireless efforts to save her. She was 6 weeks old and such a fierce soul. My heart aches. But I learned so much from having her in my life and am so grateful to have known her. Extracting even more from this video this go around 💜 Rest in paradise Mouth (you’d understand the name if you spent 5 mins with her), until next time 💕

We've lost two foster kittens from two different litters, (a couple years apart,) and it is one of the MOST devastating things I've ever gone through. The shelter was very matter-of-fact about it, they called it failure to thrive. But I couldn't help but blame myself both times. 💔

I lost one of my foster kittens yesterday, he was a loving and great cat, we thought something might be wrong with him right from the start, and I guess we were right. We sent the kittens off to get neutered, and he was doing fine after. But the night after he got neutered, he passed away. The day after he passed was when he was going to get adopted by my friend. We were all heartbroken. He enjoyed his life of luxury and being spoiled while it lasted. This was my first foster I’ve lost, I wish I could go back in time.

Never fostered kittens before, but my grandad just died on Monday and hearing what you had to say about grief (even if they are different situations) really resonates with how I’m feeling at the moment. I couldn’t imagine fostering cats and dealing with what happens when they die or when you have to give them to their forever home, and I think you and other foster parents, (both for cats and humans) do a wonderful job at handling everything that you have to deal with that comes with fostering. So much bravery and kindness and it’s super admirable. I think twinkle and pine was the first video of yours I’ve watched in awhile and it sucks that this has happened but it’s so wonderful to see you, in your grief, still able to use it as a way to teach other people about how they can handle and deal with their grief without ignoring it and pushing it to the side.

My first fosters were 7, one-week-old kittens who had been left on the side of the road to die for at least three days. They all did well, but one kitten lost his life one week before he was about to be adopted. We believed it was kidney related due to how they were found. Dwight was a fantastic kitten and when I lost him it broke me. But I recovered. The two things that kept me looking forward was that A) I had 6 other kittens to take care of, and B) No matter what, I gave Dwight a good home. I made him feel loved. I was his owner and I gave it my all to give him the best life. I'm so happy you made this video. I wish I had something like this when I lost my foster and I'm so happy it's here now for others.

I know that when I fostered kittens and would lose one, I'd cuddle my forever cat Pumpkin (a red tabby runt that I hand raised). When he died of feline leukemia, I cuddled an adult rescue cat I was caring for at the time. I realized then that so many people were caring for nursing and neo natal kittens in my area, but the senior cats were getting euthenized. I decided to shift to caring for senior kitties in their twilight years. Hopefully when I get my own place, after I start a new career, I will do that again with the help of my daughter this time. I have seen so many adult kitties pass on in my care, before they found their furever home. Knowing that they had love and the care they needed in the end of their lives helped to lessen the pain of their loss for me. Think of it this way, that kitten had the best care possible and your love for the time they were here. That made their life so much fuller and happier than a lot of kittens will get (another reason for TNR). Love your channel and content. Hugs from Texas.

My most heart breaking moment in life was when my cat dead at 4 years old. I promised him I would take care of him and he had heart failure. I even ensured a pet ambulance was there. I followed them and when I arrived he was dead. I spend an hour having him in my arms while he already passed away. The only thing I felt was "This shouldn't be", "I have failed you", "I'm so sorry little one". I had to forgive myself for things I couldn't have prevented. The first thing I needed to do is forgive myself, even when I had done everything I could.

Thank you so much for this video. Two months ago, I was in grief for two weeks after losing Potat. He was a runt, the first litter of a stray cat who always came to our house for food and shelter, Olivia. Since he is very small compared to his sister, we took extra care on him with vitamins, blankets and nutrients. After a day with vet checkup, the vet said Potat is doing well, so it's a relief. The next day, I came home from work, and found Potat lying down with his poo scattered around. I was panicking. Olivia and his sister were there but not seeing him. I rushed him to the vet. 50:50, the vet said. She told me that Oliv might take him somewhere but dropped him and it was a fatal fall to his internal organs. Potat was incubated and given oxygen, I was praying he would survive. When I was about to pay the bills, the vet called me. Potat couldn't make it, the internal damage was too heavy for him. I cried so hard that day, carrying his dead body in blanket and buried him nearby my house. I was so devastated, I kept blaming myself, if only I came home sooner from work. Rest in peace, Potat, I'll always miss you. You can play happily over the rainbow bridge now..

This video hit me in the feels. 7 years ago my husband and I adopted a tiny, runty orphan kitten... at the time we had an older cat and the two of them were great buds (though Elwood sometimes got tired of her energy). 2 years ago Elwood passed away and it was very devastating... Elwood was a lot like Coco and just very in tuned with our emotions and really helped my husband get through a lot of times of loss, such as when his father was killed and his uncle passed of cancer. Heap became our only cat and I've been trying to convince him for a year now that perhaps we could foster kittens instead of adopting but he's worried about exactly this. Guilt is something he struggles with a lot. Fast forward to this week... I am watching this video as I step away from checking on Heap who is very sick. She had a very terrible ear infection that had caused her ear drum to rupture. Fortunately after getting the MRI done yesterday the vet says we caught it early enough that the infection had not gone into her brain. The poor dear currently cannot walk but we're hopeful now as we finally got her to actually eat wet food again though she's still not using the litter box without assistance. It's been an absolutely emotional roller coaster but our pampered furbaby has given us reason to set up the living room as a giant pillow fort. Watching your videos though has helped us a lot this week. Your advice of using a playpen prompted me to buy a large pop-up kennel to keep our wobbly lady safe. The little food-paste tubes were a perfect solution when she was unable to eat out of a dish because she couldn't sit or stand still without her wibbly wobbly head but she could lick well enough! There's been other things I've picked up along the way that while Heap might be 7 years old not 7 weeks it's still been a tremendous help. Thank you for everything... all the lives you've saved in your own home... and all the lives your videos have helped too.

I had my last cat for 15 years, and when she got sick, I had to make that awful decision at the vet. I try not to get emotional about stuff, but I did about her and I'm not ashamed to say it. They become part of the family, and if you're not affected by their passing there is something wrong. I agree with you 100% - talk about what's happened.

This is my first time fostering orphaned kittens and I’ve lost two from the litter and it was incredibly difficult for me the first few days. But this really helped me to realize their lives can motivate to do something. I realized that I want to work with TNR programs and keep these kittens from suffering.

You are so amazing. I buried my first neo natal baby before I ever heard of you. I did everything wrong. Some neighborhood kids were carrying her around on a frisbee, I took her from them. I knew nothing. I bought formula and a bottle, it was of no use. The kitten still had it's umbilical cord and was compromised in so many ways. She wasn't taking the bottle, she was cold even though I set up a bed with a warmer...it was awful. I cried and cried, and prayed. Her desperate cries haunted me...I didn't know how to care for her. She died. I buried her in a blanket, right outside my bedroom window. Well, 4 weeks ago, I heard another baby kitten crying near my house. I remember thinking, "Oh no...not again." The kitten I found was approximately 3 weeks old this time. I was able to bottle feed and raise her. I believe God let me have another chance to help a baby kitten. It is a total success ..she is our baby...we named her Lucky. I watched your videos obsessively! I learned everything and it was only because of you that she survived. I didn't know very much at all. Thank you so much! She is precious and a valued member of our family. I am glad that our first baby didn't die in vain. What you are doing is so wonderful. Thanks from the bottom of my heart. I couldn't have saved Lucky without your videos.

Thank you - having recently lost an elderly stray we took in, I needed this. Although she wasn't a kitten, she was about as helpless as one. Deaf, literally no teeth, geriatric old lady with hyperthyroidism. She sadly started suffering random seizures caused by a suspected brain tumour and we made the tough decision to let her go in a timely matter. She was a pleasure to get to know, she was safe, she was happy and she blossomed into a playful derp. I'm prepared to take in animals with hearing loss or difficulty and with special dietary requirements as a result. She taught me how to conduct myself around a deaf cat, how to make sure she could eat her food, how to medicate a cat and most of all how to recognise behavioural issues that might point to a possible brain tumour. Although I'm devastated she's gone she has taught me a great deal. I plan to take in and care for more senior animals in future, they're so often overlooked. I'm sorry for your loss, you did the best you could for Twinkle. Sometimes the price we pay for the joy they give us is high and dropped on us suddenly.

I really needed this. We just lost our 2 week old kitten yesterday 💔 I found little kitty outside our house alone, wet and crying loudly nonstop. I couldn't just ignore it and not care. It's just a baby (eyes and ears still close), so I took it in. I was praying and hoping so bad it would survive, even contacted animal rescue shelter and asked anyone who has pet cats or lactating cats and just someone who has the knowledge to better take care of it, but none.. so I took the risk and made it my responsibility. Did research and watched videos on how to nurse a neonatal kitten. Was not really a cat person but in just a short time, I really bonded with it. Kitty stole my heart.. when it opened its eyes and ears, I thought it would survive. But alas. what makes me so mad is that yesterday was a holiday and all clinics were closed. Only one that opened late aft already.. it was too late.. I felt so useless. It's just so heartbreaking seeing it in pain.. I couldn't stop crying even now. My first kitten and I never knew it would hurt this bad.. little kitty's death really affected me. I feel guilty and responsible for its death, blaming myself just thinking over and over that I could have done something sooner. How I wish I could have it back and do things another way.. can't stop thinking about how horrible its death must have been 😭 I keep looking at its pictures, its big blue cute eyes. I miss little kitty so much. Just gone too soon 😢💔

I dreaded watching this video when it came out because my cat was very ill and I was so scared I'd lose him. For two months I'd take him to the vet nearly weekly and last week we found out it was FIV that was making him suffer so much. Last night I made the most difficult decision to let him go and end his pain. It felt and feels so backwards because in my heart, I wanted to keep fighting for him no matter the cost. But in my head I knew the cost was that he was in pain, fighting something unbeatable and barely living any sort of life. I can't sleep, I can't eat, every noise in my house gets my hopes up that it's him and it breaks my heart into a million pieces every minute of every hour. I miss him so so so so much...... I'm so sorry about little Twinkle and I hope your heart can heal and I'm incredibly grateful for everything you do. Thank you thank you thank you for being such a caring, inspiring, strong human. I’ve lost 3 kittens over the years, but as you say each kitten loss helped me save other kittens. The first kitten I lost was the hardest for me as I was new to neonatal fostering, but after I successfully raised a litter of five a year later, the strength returned. Each kitten loss did affect me but I no longer blame myself and as you say those kittens were loved and cherished for the little time they were with me. Sending love your way and I will be donating to our local cats protection in memory of Twinkle.😘😘😘

When we foster a kitten, he's really part of the family and there's a big bond between you and the kitten especially when you bottle feed them. I got them they were 48 hours. I'm used to small ones, and I love your videos, your advices helped me so much in many situations. I volunteer and donate at the local Shelter and was told these stats: 1 in 4 kittens in the wild will live. 1 in 4 kittens fostered may die. That means fostering can save THREE kittens. Every loss breaks your heart. But remember to celebrate the saving of all the others. Blessings, Kitten Lady! Love you.

I believe that for highly empathic people, the only way to heal ourselves, in our pain, is through continuing to heal the suffering of others. And at the same time the only way to become even more powerful healers is through navigating this ongoing painful growth process that shows us that our suffering is not in vain, because it gives us the gift of knowledge. Some people channel this gift into helping animals and some people channel it into helping vulnerable humans. But Empaths are often in service to the innocent who suffer. It's the concept of the Wounded Healer. I think Hannah has evolved into a High Empath through her work and her voice extends her empathic message to the world through public platforms.

A couple of years ago, back when I didn't have a lot of experience with newborn kittens, my neigbor's cat became pregnant and after giving birth to about 5 kittens, she sadly passed away. My neighbor asked me if I could help them, and I said yes. I tried my best, I didn't sleep anything... your videos helped me a lot!! Their little bodies were filled with fleas and I made sure to bath them all (with the directions of one of your videos). I had a little kitten formula left and I tried to fed them. I made them a cosy little bed in my room... and I haven't slept anything that night. I was only 16 maybe. But sadly.. I couldn't help any of them. They died in my arms, although I feel like I've tried everything. I'm writing now this with tears in my eyes, because I still couldn't get over this tragedy. I'm so sorry for your loss! I know how hard it is.

Hannah, from Monterey we mirror so many of your emotions - sorrow and joy - in our world of TNR and feral care - it is painful, from the two kittens (Raisin and Oatmeal) to the "old men" (Pepe, Jake, Carl, and Gaston) we've had to put down over the past 9 years. I tear up on your losses, but it reinforces our dedication to our cats and to our now stable family of ex-ferals, Bogie, Lauren, Jaquie, and mom Carly, along with our own 10 year old boys (as of January 31) - Bleu and Skylar. Stay strong, stay loving, and stay joyful (that goes for you and Andrew as well).

This video reminded me of my cat who passed a year ago. We got a little orange kitten, he was the best thing to me and I got really attached because I wanted my own cat. We had another cat who was old and didn’t like people. But when our kitten was around 3 years old he went outside and didn’t come back for a long time. He came back 2 months later really sick. We took him to the vet and we needed to give him medicine and keep him warm. I cried during that time because I was scared to lose him. We lost him a few weeks later due to kidney failure. It was one of the hardest times of my life because he was really important to me. It hurt me so bad I had to take a few days off of school and even when I went bad I was really depressed and didn’t really speak to anyone. It still makes me cry to this day if I think about him.
