I have the interpretation by Horowitz on RCA LP. Never thought I’d hear anything to compare to that cosmic world wind(whirlwind). This rendition is immediately much more architectural, and naturally delineated. I feel almost as if I’m hearing it for the first time from the far-flung luminescent universe that Ludwig Van Beethoven first explored some decades prior. I understand more than ever what a radiant plateau of inspiration Chopin aspired to and achieved with this truly awesome masterpiece. Brava, bravissimo!!! PWG

Thanks to Sokolovs reading, so many moments where I realize that Chopins late music is not homophony with fleeting moments of counterpoint, but counterpoint through and through, counterpoint disguised with a thin veneer of homophony, like the unearthly major chorale section. yes there is a melody, so beguilingly simple, but its to me a very unchopinesque melody, so economical and functionally tied to its identity. its less so a melody than an outgrowth of the chorale it owes its identity to. while the skeleton of counterpoint gives the music a sort of security and strength, there is still a tremendous mystery, improvisatory freedom to the way the music moves and changes itself. Just my thoughts.
