21:34. JR is wrong here because the Rock wasn't a babyface when he and Goldberg wrestled Rock was still a heel after Mania 19 when he beat Austin so for at least 2 or 3 months Rocky was a heel. It wasn’t 2 babyfaces going head to head.

1:32:45. To be perfectly honest if I was Goldberg and I heard one of my bosses say that. I'd of asked for my release and get whatever I was owed. Totally unprofessional of Liden McMahon to say that if anything it proves that WWE lost interest in Goldberg and they probably should of never made a deal with him.

When JR talks about Jericho wanting to kick out twice from the spear and the jackhammer and Jr talks about see how it spreads like wildfire to another wrestler wanting to protect his gimmick. I remember Macho Man Randy Savage pitching a fit about protecting his gimmick so it could have started with him or maybe even far back as Hulk Hogan

It's weird to hear a part of your childhood that you enjoyed talked about like it was a total disaster. In hindsight the flaws were apparent but I do have fondness for many moments in his 03 WWE run. The WM20 match was burned in my mind as a downer though, particularly with them leaving afterward. I still find it fascinating how he and Austin were both surrogates for one another after Austin initially retired and when Bill couldn't conclude the Lesnar storyline.
@blueblur2273
@blueblur2273 Год назад
The clumsiness with the way they handled Goldberg initial run is exactly the reason why Austin left the company the year before. The 90s creative was about making characters more edgy and bad-ass. The 00s creative was about making characters more silly. Storylines went from Austin ruining Mcmahon's plans to chase him out of the WWE to Mcmahon trying to get his wrestlers to kiss his ass *for an entire show*
@Y2JLionHeart

I don't think that's a fair description of what frustrated Austin. I think it's more accurate to say that Goldberg and Austin both were dissatisfied because their egos were too big.

Think of this from Jericho's perspective. He left WCW and helped contribute to WWF winning the proverbial Monday night war, and to thank him for this he is put in a lower spot the stars from the company he left in the first place. What a slap in the face.

The stories I've heard about Chris is that he was a backstage politician. RVD said as much that he only wanted to get himself over. It might've sucked to lose to Bill with their history but it was best for business and made the most sense. Chris didn't see the big picture, just saw himself and what he wanted. Kicking out of the spear would have killed Goldberg's finish and made it common right out of the gate. Jericho was mid card in WCW and was nowhere near as dominant as Goldberg in WWE. He should've been squashed and got his revenge helping Evolution.
@Matty_Mac
@Matty_Mac Год назад
@GJR Only months before, it took The Rock 3 Rock Bottoms to finish Stone Cold, including 2 kick outs, total of 3 finishes in a row. I assume then that this is only acceptable in this case, as it was his last match, albeit unnoticed to the general fan. Much respect & thank you

NWA and WCW had the greatest wrestler's ever in any business. No one could ever replace Ric Flair and There will never be another Ric Flair or Sting, Lex Luger, Ricky the Dragon Steamboat, dick slider, Harley Race, Dusty Rhodes, the Road Warriors rock and roll Express Midnight Express Steiner Brothers, fabulous three birds, Rick Rude and don't ever forget that everyone's favorite the Undertaker started out in the WCW. The list can go on forever....hell maybe that's why the Undertaker was so good because he took from what he learned in WCW and brought it to WWF.........The only reason why WCW went under was cause there simply wasn't enough promotion going on they just started the business up and there was some throat cutting going on like Vince McMahon buying different territories out to make WCW more isolated. WCW is simply the best......Wooooo!!

Wish you would've dug deeper into that SummerSlam '03 elimination chamber main event. It wasn't about the sledgehammer being a good or bad way for Goldberg to lose, discuss should he have lost that match period? No! Keep in mind the missteps in his booking to that point, then watch that match. Before the finish he was booked perfectly. Doing awesome looking power moves and spots, the fans were going ballistic and chanting his name loud. And triple h barely did anything in that match because of his injury. That's when they needed to pull the trigger.

For years and years and years and years I remember Goldberg versus Lesnar being such a horrible match and how many people have talked over the years since about how bad it was. But you know what it wasn't that bad. It was actually decent. I mean no one expected it to be a five-star classic but if you take out the crowd booing the shit out of both of them because they were leaving, the match itself all the very basic because neither man cared didn't have any big botches or anything like that and was nowhere near the worst WrestleMania match ever. I was just one of many average big man matches. And while Lesnar absolutely was capable of much better especially compared to the year before, he got a decent big man match out of Goldberg. I honestly think that everyone remembers it being so awful because the crowd tore it to shreds and neither man gave a shit. But it was better than their matches more recently but the crowd was behind the more recent matches. I truly think that if you meet the audio from the original and pipe in a hot crowd and just cut out the parts where the guys are flipping off the crowd and shit, the match is actually not bad at all

Wrestlemania 19 was in my hometown of Seattle Washington. I was there live in the crowd and I think it was a huge mistake not having an austin vs Goldberg dream match instead we got Austin vs rock for the third straight time and a night later on raw Goldberg debut WWE really dropped the ball here and maybe I might piss off some diehard Steve Austin fans, but I don’t give a shit. I’m going to be honest after WCW went out of business and the Monday night war was over Steve Austin was no longer relevant. He was passed his prime this is why in 2002 he wasn’t booked very strong and he walked out of WWE he couldn’t face the fact that he was no longer the top guy there is a lot of parallels between Steve Austin and hulk hogan they didn’t want to wrestle certain wrestlers. They were very cocky and Steve Austin did not want to put over Brock Lesnar.. Steve Austins prime years was 1996 1997 1998 and 1999 by the year 2000 wrestlers like Triple H The Big Show Chris Jericho brock Lesnar was gaining lot of popularity, and Austin was very jealous of those guys success because he wasn’t the top star going into the 2000s. He was a shell of his former self he reached his peak by the year 2000 and if he didn’t get injured at summer slam 1997, maybe we would’ve had a few more good years out of Austin

Was never a fan of Goldberg because he was all style and no substance. He was a generic strong man. He couldn’t cut a promo, he couldn’t put on a technical match… he was just a big guy who had short squash matches. That to me was never entertaining. Being a big guy does not prohibit one from actually being capable at cutting promos, being a big guy does not prohibit one from putting on long engaging matches. Case in point The Undertaker. He was a monster but he could put on a promo and he could wrestle for more than 5 minutes.
@Jukeboxster
@Jukeboxster Год назад
What you described is exactly what he was supposed to be, a big strong guy. If you view wrestlers through the lens as everyone needs to be able to have the gift of gab on the microphone or have a technical match, doing drop toe holds and side russian legsweeps, then yeah a lot of people aren't going to fit that mold. Undertaker was a freak of nature, there's a reason he was called the Phenom, not really fair to expect every big guy to do what he does. Sometimes a guy's "promo" is his appearance instead of his talking, like Andre the Giant or Yokozuna. Andre talked and sounded like he had a mouth full of marbles, but still attracted an audience because he was big as hell.
