1. do you think it would work better if the head bas batoned on after being pushed into the wedge? 2. is this like a one time use item? 3.did it feel flimsy or was it like a solid card ? 4. did the shape of the blade make it harder to chop wood than a regular axe head shape with the wider bit ?
1. I think it is more important on how the head is secured or tied to the stick. Even with batoning, the thin profile would work its way loose upon use. 2. & 3. I would consider this a multi use item. Even though it is a slim card, it is sturdy and holds up without any deformation. If you were to beat rocks with it, then I would assume it would bend or possibly chip but I have been using it off and on for a months now and have had no issues. It really excels when you take the time to put more of an edge on it. 4. A real axe definitely performs better due to having a wedge shape and much more mass. This is an entirely different animal since it is meant to fit in the same space as a credit card. You have to be more precise with your strikes and it would be exhausting to chop any large amount of wood with the minimal amount of mass in this tool. Short answer: Yes, you have to work more to chop than if you had a traditional axe head. Thanks for the questions!
See thats the only issue with it though, Its called an AXE and Axes chop wood not delimb trees. To limb a tree you wouldnt grab an axe you would likely use a hatchet or camp knife. Even hatchets chop small diameter trees. You did a better demonstration of its chopping power though than he did he just hacked some little twigs off a downed small tree. The limb you cut off is much larger in diameter than what he cut. I think its an excellent tool to have on you for sure but its definitely not something I would call an axe. More like Hatchet or Tomahawk. I suggested to him to make it a pair with each side being curved in one way so that when put together form an axe with an edge and has double the strength.
