i think it's a really distorted vocal or electronic string instrument. Im not an expert at music production but that's my guess.

the impressive dissonant tonal sounds come from a music technique called dissonance. the use of dissonance in this song is outstanding and so addictive for my ears, and the distorted synth pad works really well with this musical technique. grimes is an absolute genius

Yes it's official, just only in the music video version of the song. I believe it was removed cuz it's sampled from an opera song and copyright stuff.
