I saw one of these this last Summer and was amazed at the technology. My Friend paid OVER $450 for her clock. I just had to have one and I was lucky enough to get one from my Granddaughter for Christmas. Yes, up close, you can clearly hear the motors driving. But, when hanging on the wall several feet away (like in normal use), all I hear is beautiful music :)
I got this clock for Christmas and i know about the gear noise I figured it wasn't a problem for me but 6 months later it stopped working it keeps time and the crystals still spin but the gears wont spin after it plays the opening melody
Just saw another comment on Sam's Club about someone saying they won't get this one. That actually made me frustrated, so I changed my plan. I will get it sooner than I said before, maybe even as soon as next week.
First thing to do if you get a grinding noise after working OK, is to put in new batteries. The clock itself will work OK and be on time but the music will sound distorted if the battery voltage is low.

@@BukuiZhao I have a recording of it. I didn't care what the issues were, I could hear mine just fine. And I have a video of all of the melodies. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-K38zpSUKuFY.html
My 2017 Special Collector’s Edition is kinda noisy itself while it moves. I’m used to it btw lol The new melody on this clock is a new music box melody. Also, Seiko ditched the Swarovski crystals and is using Preciosa crystals instead.
Did they remaster the songs from the ground up, or is it just a simple quality increase in the songs? The bells seem like they have more staccato to me.
To merge all my comments together (since I think it is flooding the comments): 1) I do not really care about the gears making a loud noise, it is not a big problem to me. 2) There is a chance that this one is defective. That noise is unusual, and in the last year's model it also makes a grindy noise but sounds completely different. If everything is like this, I can modify it by using a larger speaker (but not till the warranty expires). 3) I will be getting this clock, no matter if mine makes this noise or not. I will get it by latest Christmas. Also, once I get it, I will put it into my "permanent collection" which I will never return it, or sell it. 4) Edit: I do not think corners were cut, honestly. Maybe the loud noise was because of supply issues with the quieter motors? Plus how does it feel cheap? I think the description is exaggerated, no offense. So overall, I am 100% getting this clock for sure. And no, I'm not exaggerating. Like I said, I will get it no later by Christmas.
@@RandomPedestrian2407 Okay but I don't really care who gets it first, because like Clockster said, it's not really a competition and even if it is, people have gotten it before I did anyways.
@@RandomPedestrian2407 no, you can’t have them all to yourself, they are not made exclusively for you, and why call the police over someone buying a clock?
Yes, the grinding is very noticeable this year. I thought it was just my unit but I guess not. If I wasn’t such a collector I would return mine as well, its pretty sad they don’t care enough about their customers enough to give us quality products… not just that but the clocks have also been to similar for the past 4 years, kind of disappointing.
I don’t see any problem, I mean all I can hear is the music play on the best quality. And also it meant to be hang on the wall… and not holding and I already own it and it best sound
true, but I dont keep in on full volume b/c it is actually quite loud in a small room. So I turn down the volume to about 50% and I can hear the grinding over the chimes. This was some form of cost cutting on seikos part.
@@Reviewsandmore oh I see . In my opinion is still very clear sound :) I don’t think everyone would bother hearing those mechanical sound. Because we all gonna focus a beautiful music from Seiko
@@Reviewsandmore I never get paid for this, I have nothing to do with Seiko and I'm just sharing my honest opinion. And like I said, I don't think this was cutting corners, it was probably supply issues with the quieter motors (I have no evidence and I'm only guessing).
Mine has the same issue too, I try not to pay too much attention to it. Chances are the motors can be lubricated or something crazy like that to reduce the noise.
I think it is the problem with the motor and not the gears for the dial. This one may be defective because the sound it makes are unusual and does not sound anything like the noise that one's I've seen and the similar one I have makes.
I don't think they will. I have asked so many times and it does not look like he even noticed. Maybe whenever this gets on Amazon or when a eBay listing appears that can ship to my location, I might be the first one to do a all melodies video. I am very excited to hear the two new arrangements.
@@Reviewsandmore Why did you do so? Now I have to buy it myself to hear the two new songs (no offense)! To me the gears making a loud noise is not really a big problem warranting a return.
Newer Seiko clocks don't have a reset button (even my QXM386BRH doesn't have this button. To reset the clock, you simply take out all 4 batteries, wait 24-48 hours and put them in again.
So sorry to hear that you got a noisy clock. I was maybe thinking of getting this or recommending this to a friend, but now I think it’s best to wait until next year.
I will just actually ignore this as a defective product because there are reviews of such defective products, this might be one of them. I will get one of these anyway. If it is still like this I will get a second one, if it is also like this I can still have it because I am not really bothered by the gear noises.
the new crystals are from Czech Preciosa, probably more high end than Swarovski: Preciosa Crystal is a luxury brand name known throughout Europe for its precision-cut lead crystal. Preciosa was established on the 10th of April, 1948 and it is currently one of the most significant producers and exporters from the Czech glass and costume jewelry industries.
@@LAstandard Yea, so there is absolutely no way they will use higher end crystals, not even speaking of adding more crystals (22 in this year compared to 13 in last year) if they want to cut corners.
@@BukuiZhao I think the reason there are 22 is because of the year 2022 so it's a very special combination. And yes they are equal to Swarovski crystals
@@LAstandard Probably, but like I said, if they want to cut corners, there will be no way they will use higher end crystals OR add more, not even speaking of both.
People have been getting this already now, and I'm confident to tell that I don't hear any motor noises in those video. Edit: So yes, I think yours is defective.
I had a 2017 version that recently fell off the wall and broke. I found this one, and the grinding sound drives me crazy. It was not a problem with my last one.
@@coonsie6231 I had two people with this clock that does not have this problem. My guess is that it is a batch problem as I've also heard someone else who has a clock that also makes this noise albeit a bit quieter. I'll see how it goes when I get mine and when I do that, I'll make an update here.
Might be but probably not the reason for the loud noise. I'm ignoring his advice not to get it for two reasons, 1) I want to hear the new arrangements, 2) The motors making a loud noise isn't really a big issue to me. I have it planned already, I'm getting it somewhere in November. If not I will get it at latest by Christmas.
Are you gonna take a look at the 2023 clock or are you done with these? Spoiler: 2023 is not very impressive; it’s literally a mashup of previous years. Disappointing.
that is why I did not do 2023, not worth the expense or time. I was bummed out. I think this is inflation related because the price is staying the same but the quality is going down. I still have my clock from years ago that has beatles songs and way more moving parts.
@@Reviewsandmore I will say I do like that they add new melodies every year; for example the new ones are I think the music box versions of Die Meistersinger von Nurnberg Prelude and Beautiful Dreamer. (There are likely others but I only have the Blue Pine Fantasy, which only has 2022’s melodies.)
These sre terrible. Im on my second one. First one got stuck and quit chiming in less than a month. 2nd replacement clock chimes one time and never made noise again. And yes the first one made grinding noises the brief time thst it chimed. Cheap junk.
this would be cool for about 2 minutes and then... throw it away. The whole idea is annoying. What I would buy it for - is to give someone who does acid! I would LOVE to see that!
Still buying this clock lol what a terrible review was completely pointless, but I mean he bought the clock so ? This review completely cancels itself out
He also returned it, so how does that ‘cancel itself out?’.. It was just his opinion of the clock.. take it or leave it; buy the clock or don’t buy it.. you don’t have to agree with his review but that doesn’t mean it was a terrible review..
