This saved my art. I’m a cartoonist and to me the dents in the page around my art I draw takes away from the little cartoon itself. When I erased after just drawing a bunch of lines, I was so surprised it erased without actually showing any evidence of ever being there.

Now I've realized why there are pencils of different levels of softness and hardness. So it's easier on the hands since you're not pressing to hard.

Thank you. I figured out. I use finger side to thumb to put pressure and middle finger to lift the pencil to reduce the pressure and hence light up the pencil and produce light lines. It works very well. Thank you.

I'm an artist and I have to learn shading and foreshortening, but the fact that I bare down on the page so hard makes it impossible to advance- this helps a bit!

It's about getting the muscle memory to remember not to press hard. You'll get there, just keep being mindful! I still forget and press too hard when I'm tense or trying to show something well on a camera, like on zoom!

For who is leftie that grip does not work the same way, does It? It seems that we does not have any support holding the pen, maybe cuz the habitual writing is from left to the right.

Many of my students (of all ages) are lefties and this method works for them. The only thing we do differently when someone is left handed is we work on a drawing from the right side first, moving toward the left side last- to keep them from smudging the areas that are completed.

For shading we need to keep pencil sharp every time or not required

That is a personal preference you will have to discover for yourself. I prefer my pencils VERY sharp for shading, as they get dull I cannot tell what part of the pencil is making the mark so I have less control. Some of my students prefer a dull pencil or a flat edge to their pencil for shading, though. Try both and see what works for you!

The way you show it is incorrect. You aren't supposed to hold the pen with 3 fingers. Only with your thumb and index finger, while it rests on your middle finger.

THERE IS NO RIGHT WAY TO HOLD A PENCIL! Everyone lives in their own body, has to work with their body, and each body is unique. I've seen 1000 crazy grip positions in teaching over the years and only YOU know what works best for you!

@@Lzmstudio I live in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Handwriting skills are still very important to us and we make sure that children learn the correct way right from the beginning. Typically, a child will hold the pen correctly by the age of four or five. Everyone is expected to know it when they start school. I never see adults with incorrect grips here. There is only one correct way to hold a pen, not only by Bosnian standards, but universally. You can google what is considered the correct grip. I see all kinds of people write every day and I have yet to see anyone hold it any other way.

Personally, I don’t believe in correct or incorrect grips as I see people with all kinds of abilities and disabilities learn to create beautifully with the bodies they were born with or ended up with.
