I'll do my best to describe it in this comment! The simple way would indeed be just a split into two bands, but 3 can sound cleaner - depends on what you're going for. The lowend needs to go to the sidechain input of FLVTTER. You get best results if you really only let the sub through! The (mids and) highs go into FLVTTER as the main input. The mids hold the most tonal content, so if they're sent through it too, you'll get a lot of intermodulation products. Sending only the highend through like in the video will leave the tonal content untouched. What we perceive as gritty comes through the fluttery on the highend. This is now achieved through FLVTTER. All you need in the output then, is the original lows (and mids) from before FLVTTER and the output of FLVTTER which has the highend, and you should be good! What DAW are you on? I'll see if I can get a friend to record this in said DAW!

I'm afraid the peak controller will still be too slow to achieve a similar result, you might get closer with Ring Modulation - kHs or MeldaProduction have a free one!
