I was just diagnosed with a life threatening allergy to dairy as an adult and this video has been very helpful. I really hope I can get a service dog one day to make life more safe, easy, and accessible. Thanks! Your dog is so cute
I don't have the same things you have but I have allergies and knowing a dog can smell through boxes and plastic is great because so many things have residue of nuts and other allergens that I can't detect right away
This was so great, I’ve been having so much trouble and have been accidentally eating gluten lately so I was considering getting a gluten detection dog. This has convinced me to pull the trigger hopefully for the greater good of my health
I love your videos! Your so positive about everything. I know theres a downside as well but you come out being positive. That's truly inspiring. You are awesome! Piper is just the cutest! Have you thought of any day in the life vlogs? Or any routines? It would be really interesting to see how it is day after day. Stay strong you got this! ❤
DAMN! I am so impressed! I have celiac and was wondering how sensitive and accurate gluten detecting service dogs are and she is so impressive! Is she as good picking out barley and rye gluten as she is with wheat gluten?
My 9 year old has Celiac and we're in the process of figuring out a service dog. We watched this video together and he would like to know why Piper is wearing a leash in the kitchen. Is it so she knows she's working?
What do you feed your dog? My husband has celiacs and we have a gluten free home. However we would like to get a dog but finding a healthy gluten free food seems to be difficult. Thanks!
They can cost $25000-$70000 if you get them trained. I trained my own dog and that’s much better for me but not everyone is able to. Make sure your doctor thinks that’s a good idea as well.
I also have POTS and also MCAS along with other things. I’ve always wanted a trained dog for anaphylaxis and flares. Any tips on how to get a dog like this? What breeds are best? Can they come pretrained? I would love any information, not finding much online. Thank you!
There are tons and tons of organizations that train SDs to specific things, however typically wait lists are anywhere from 1-4 years long, and the dogs are very very expensive. Breed very much depends on you. If you don’t want shedding a German Shepherd isn’t the answer and a doodle or poodle will be better. Talk with your doctor, they will help you out with where to look next!
Cross contamination can be extremely dangerous for those with super sensitive celiacs, so even if an ingredient list says it may be gluten free sometimes it isn't. Companies aren't legally required to say it was processed in a facility that contains allergens. As well as the fact that some body products and makeup don't have ingredients list.
You wonder how we survived all those decades when dogs weren't allowed in public spaces. And I say this as a dog lover but tired of people taking their dogs everywhere.
This is so interesting. I didn't know dogs could safely and properly sniff out gluten like that. Well... it's not too surprising if I remember what police dogs have to sniff out.
They used a trainer that specializes in scent detection! I don’t know your situation at all and I don’t want to make an assumption at all but if allergen is the only reason you’re looking at getting one, i would say probably look for something else. Definitely talk to your doctor!!
